Just wondering has anyone brought in a Rottweiler sometime this year without any problems? We had a Rottie X, and thought we would have a problem bringing him to Dubai (we did not) -- he passed away at 15 recently. Our dog moved with us to 8 countries and wondered just in case we decide to get another Rottweiler if anyone has had any problems lately. There are lots of banned breeds lists, but from what I understand it would only be a problem if the owner who imported the dog, decided not to take the dog home or to their next assignment. Our dog would go with us as did the first one -- very much part of our family! It would be great to get some clarity from owners who have recently moved to Dubai with their Rotties. Thanks!

Thank you ladies! Whatsapp did work even if only for a couple of minutes before dropping completely. Some WiFi connections worked better than others, so maybe where you use it matters too.

Hi Quicksilver 6, We brought in all of our dog's meds including Banacep (Fortekor) and a couple of others for his heart several times. It was never a problem. Bring a receipt with you and/or a prescription from your vet at home just in case you are asked in Dubai. We even brought in several large bags of dog food as our dog had severe skin allergies. Again, it was never a problem. Good luck!

Hi! We brought our dog to Dubai from Portugal with Emirates. From the time our dog was taken in to when we got him out, he had been in his crate for 15 hours. Emirates personnel did not take him out to take care of business and stretch his legs after being cooped up for so long. They did not give him any water either. The water and food bowls were found at the bottom in the crate. His nose had severely cracked with blood trails as he was so dehydrated. We will never use Emirates again. KLM on the other hand was great! In Amsterdam, our dog was taken for a walk and given water and was brought out to us a very happy dog! I can't recommend KLM enough. During the stopovers, they will be dropping off people and taking on new passengers, so they would definitely take care of your dog's needs I would think. Our friends took their dog home to the US from Muscat, Oman and they had two stopovers as well. They were allowed to take the dog out for a quick walk etc. You would have to check your dog in as 'live cargo' meaning your pet will travel on the same flight as you and it is much cheaper. Bear in mind that this price is based on weight. Our dog was 50kgs on his own. Check with KLM or Lufthansa. Our dog traveled all over the world on our international moves. Good luck! Great to hear that you are planning to bring your loved one with. :)

Hi! I'd be interested in knowing what moving company you use to Muscat. Options seem to be limited here. Where in SA are you coming from? We are planning to move to SA about the time you arrive here, hence the questions. Oman is by far the nicest country within the GCC, so you will most probably like it. Not sure if you've moved internationally before, but like all moves, there are frustrations with the way things work (or don't). It is a much slower paced life here, but we still have the crazy drivers, unnecessary honking etc. As far as beauty essentials etc., I've used Ayana Spa for facials and getting my nails done every now and then. Check Dubizzle/OLX Muscat, Oman for your housing needs. Lots of villas are available now, as lots of expats are leaving or have left. Good luck with your move!:)

Hi All, Was just wondering if the food court near Starbucks upstairs (MOE) is open like it was last year during Ramadan or if any other mall had some food courts open. Thanks.

Please don't refer to these idiots as 'animals.' My dog had more common sense and manners than a lot of humans I've met. That is a fact!! These idiots are the reason why these fires are so common. Find out who it is and report it! Keep the butt in a zip lock bag as proof if it falls in your balcony!

I am a city girl, but don't like driving in Dubai either mainly due to the craziness of drivers on the roads, who do not seem to have a care in the world. I do drive, but will sometimes use the metro. Why don't you take some lessons to get comfortable on the roads, which will give you some confidence. I drove with my husband next to me when it was quiet on Fridays and Saturdays to get familiar with roads etc. and it really helped. Now I can drive pretty much all over, although sometimes I still choose not to! I will drive a route a few times with my husband, then when I am confident to go it alone, I'm out and about! Baby steps!! Good luck!!

True! Animals are not checked when in the hold during the flight. It is possible that there may be a camera, so the pilot may have a visual, but that is pretty much it. Do not sedate your pet -- airlines will not take him as it is a huge risk. Start getting him used to his crate/kennel so that he sees that as a safe and comfortable place for him. Walk him a little bit before you hand him over and give him some water, but no food. We had two non spill bowl attached to his crate, but when we picked him up in Dubai, both the bowls were in the kennel! If you need to know anything else, please let me know.

Hi! Do you have all the paperwork in order, showing you guys as owners, vaccinations up to date, pet passport etc.? If all is order and your dog has no major issues other than being 'senior' -- there shouldn't be a problem with a vet giving you a letter stating he is fit to fly. We brought our large breed dog here at the age of 13 (he has flown a few times before). It was an 8 hours flight, plus being taken in at departure point early and with Emirates messing up on the paperwork, he was in his kennel for a total of 15 hours. On arrival here, he should have been taken out and at least given some water. He was very dehydrated and hungry, but he did very well. Don't worry about his age, if no major health issues, he will be just fine. Your dog will have to fly as cargo (below). Make sure that the flight crew on board know that you have a pet on board, so that they get the temperature just right for him. I think you will have to check with airlines as some smaller sized dogs and service dogs can fly with their owners in the cabin (but this is mostly in Europe and the North America), not sure if this is allowed in this part of the world. Hope this helps! Good luck!!

Hi! Following this. Did you manage to get any answers? Have you already been to Oman with your dog? Provided you have all the current paperwork/vaccinations, it shouldn't be a problem. We've done it lots of time from Oman to Dubai and back, but never done it from here, so I'm interested in knowing how the system works from this side.

FairyDust -- totally agree with you. Tipping should be at one's discretion. Tired of three restaurants we frequently go to asking if the total on the bill is what we want to charge to the card or can they add the tip to it. Umm.. NO!!

Hi! We'd like to visit Oman (Shatti, PDO, Muscat area) for about 3 nights. From what I recall, there aren't any hotels which accept dogs, but does anyone know if we could rent a villa? Reason being, we would like to bring our senior dog. Thanks for any help.:)

Hi! We've flown our giant child all over the world too. Highly recommend KLM -- they are excellent with animals. Fly to the nearest airport of your final destination and drive the rest of the way. We've always done this. Ours weighs 50kgs and flew as live cargo. When we got to Amsterdam, they had walked him and given him water and he did just fine. You'll have to get started on the paperwork -- go directly to KLM and get started with reservations for a space for your dog to travel on the same flight as you. Good luck!

Beautiful country and people! Have visited all several times, but Ngorongoro and Serengeti are stunning and a must to visit! You will not be disappointed. 5 day safari is enough in my opinion. The beaches are gorgeous -- can spend the rest of your vacation unwinding from your safari. The companies I've used were very expensive and all local Tanzanian tour companies. We had great drivers all the time! Precision Air is one of the local domestic airlines. You can google to find out more information on tour companies and airlines. I will see if I can find a contact for you.

Hi All, Not sure if you've heard or read about the security issues with Al Furjan. There are attempted break ins, theft from cars and villas on an almost daily basis now. This is NOT a gated community, although there are fences now going up, don't know how secure this will be in the future. The break ins happen even in the mornings -- just nuts really! Residents are furious. The gardens are also watered with treated water and the stench comes in to the houses via the drains in bathrooms, kitchen etc. Really bad! Cars are not checked and anyone and everyone drives around the community. There are no speed bumps, so much so that if you stand at a pedestrian crossing, cars will honk and flash to warn you NOT to cross the road. There are very loud parties even on the weekdays with inconsiderate/ignorant people who think it is OK to howl (yes, howl) and talk loudly even at 3am, hire DJs to play blaring music in their garden, turn up their large screen TVs, have untrained dogs that bark all day etc. LLs are renting out, but only if you sign an agreement stating that you will leave at the end of the lease so that they can jack the rent up. There are no shops within walking distance, seen some children playing but mostly on the concreted/sandy areas (could have something to do with the treated water). Have seen a lot of people move out and some move in. It is up to you to decide what is best.

Hi Volleygurl, We can meet up -- hubby working -- I'm not! You will be so busy when you get here, so could meet up in the new year. BTW, if I find a good place for NYE, I'll let you know. C U soon hopefully!! Citybeach: I like living in Al Furjan too. It is quiet where we are - we are in Dubai Style -- nice!! How about you? Can definitely meet up next week. My shipment is just in, so still have many boxes to open. How do we meet up without putting our personal info up? Do you have a 'junk' email address? I may do and need to locate the address and we could probably use that one for initial meeting. Looking forward to it. Thanks!

Hi! I replied to another topic you had on living in compounds. Hope it helps. We'll be about 20-30mins (depending on traffic) from where you plan to live. I enjoy working out, cooking, reading, traveling, exploring, music, malls (not necessarily for shopping), but nice to check them out and find a good café etc. Shopping around for a car at the moment --should have one by the time you get here. Haven't had a chance to meet with anyone! You can contact me closer to when you get here and we can arrange to meet up. Meanwhile, happy to help you with any questions.. Note: Not new to living in Dubai.

Hi Volleygurl, We've lived in The Netherlands too -- did NOT love it -- but that is a whole different story!! We've also lived in compounds. Pros - you may get to meet some really nice folk and some compounds come with pools, giving you a nice community feel. Compounds may also have security. Cons - Not a lot of privacy depending on the size of the compound. You could probably get a stand alone house with a pool, but it would depend on what you want to spend. Prices are just nuts here!!! It is good that you plan to live near your child's school as traffic is crazy here and commutes can be very long! Driving rules do not apply here!!! Good luck!

Hi All! Am currently living in Al Furjan and wondered if there are any ladies part of this forum, who live here -- Americans, Canadians, Portuguese -- any one really. Can usually tell from the first meeting if we'll click or not and can take it from there? Kids, no kids, dogs, young, old -- anyone to explore the community and share a laugh or two? Hubby busy working, so it is up to me to start meeting people and eventually get them together too. Thanks!

Hello! We've decided to rent short-term for a month or two -- we'll have a big dog with us. We figure this is the best way to get to know an area before we rent long term or buy. Note: we are not strangers to Dubai having lived there a while back -- we spend some time in Dubai every year, so are very familiar with areas, but want to live in a community before we decide which one to call home. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Don't know much about the JVC/JVT area -- does anyone from this Forum live there? We know the Springs/Green community very well, but looking for a house with a bit of storage space. If you know of any realtors who specialize in this area, please let me know. Thanks for any help!

Thank you all for your replies. We are just naturally worried. I've heard of paying with an E-Card on picking the pet up, but since we will be new arrivals in Dubai -- we obviously won't have that -- can it all be paid for online which would be perfect! I'll also check out the agents. Are the pets walked after being in their crates for so long and at least given water? Also, when waiting to complete all paperwork at Dubai Cargo Village, are we allowed access to our pet to maybe take him for a short walk? So glad that everything worked out for you guys and your precious pets. Again, big thanks!!!
