Thanks Tessa21 for your input re. Farlingtons....not everyone can be 'world changers' and world changers do not always change the world for the better! If our daughter continues to be kind, polite and do well at school then I think Farlingtons could certainly be an option. Yes we looked at Milais but unfortunately the deadline for applications for Year 7 Sept 2016 entry has already been closed! As our application would be deemed 'late' it is extremely unlikely our DD would get a place at an already oversubscribed school.... Thanks again though for your ideas.

Sorry dreadful typos. Have you looked at Millais if you want all girls? It is very, very good.

Thank you ladies - I will concentrate my research on your afore-mentioned locations.... Any info on Farlington School for Girls near Horsham?

Horsham is a nice market town with good state secondary schools. Independent Christs Hospital is very traditional and offers good scholarships particularly for talented musicians but is full boarding. Ardingly college is more affordable mid range co-ed independent. A good range of property but as said above expect high prices. Crawley is marginally more affordable but hideous and poor schools, generally. Haywards Heath is good option with nice villages around. Billingshurst also a good option with nice community feel. Brighton is a possibility if you want a more vibrant, diverse community and excellent independent school (Brighton College, Roedean, Lancing College). It would mean a drive up A23 to Gatwick but only about 40 minutes at worst.

Assuming that your husband would be driving to work then you could also look in the areas around Haywards Heath and East Grinstead. Generally no more than a 30 minute drive to Gatwick itself. Don't have children myself but most of our friends children were lucky enough to go to Oathall School inHaywards Heath which would appear to rank highly- Haywards Heath is also on the main London (Victoria and London Bridge) to Brighton railway if that makes any difference. You need to be aware that all of that area of West Sussex and East Grinstead in East Sussex is extremely expensive property-wise as it is so well placed for London commuters, is a lovely part of the country and is still relatively unspoiled considering its proximity to good transport links, Gatwick airport and Dover ferry port. Friends of ours sold their mid-victorian semi (two (just) double bedrooms upstairs and a small boarded roof space, downstairs bathroom, kitchen and sitting room on ground floor, single garage and 100ft garden backing onto farmland) on the edge of a village five miles from Haywards Heath three years or so ago for something around the £230,000 level.

We lived, and still have our house, in a village not far from Horsham and it is a lovely area - but then I am biased! It used to take my husband 40 minutes to get to Gatwick, maybe a little less now they have widened the A23. I don't know too much about the primary schools in Horsham itself, ours went to the local primary, but a bit about the secondary schools. Depending on what you are looking for, don't rule out some of the surrounding villages. The road network is good and beautiful countryside with lots to do.

Hi ladies, just looking for a bit of advice from those who know the West Sussex/ Kent area well. Husband has the chance to take a good job in the Gatwick area - which locations within a 30 minute commute are ideal family towns with good schools - children aged 10 and 4. Did a little research myself and Horsham seems to fit the bill? Thanks for any heads up! ?
