Husband and I wandered around Dragon Mart for ages looking for what looked like 'the best' curtain/blind place. It's very hard to tell just by looking so in the end we just picked one randomly but seriously...this place was great, the guy was great, and the price was great. Shop name: Dresports Trading FZCO Dragon Mart shop location: HBA 06,07 The guy was called 'Babbo'? Or something like that? He was an absolute pleasure to deal with, spoke -and understood!- perfect English, didn't try to fleece us or start the quotation really high just for the sake of it. It was all very straight forward and our curtains are stunning. Great quality too. We went for blackout linen (so it's not scratchy and cheap feeling) for the dining and lounge, and like this plush suede-y kind-of-velvet-feeling sort of material (again, blackout) with day curtains too for the bedroom. Love love love them all! If you use them, please tell them "Mr. Daniel from The Greens" recommended them :)

Lock Stock is great for music BUT it's just too busy :( so you won't have any room to dance. It's a proper sardine tin situation. Shoulder to shoulder back to back kind of affair. Rock Bottom always used to be my choice when we want a proper night of fun and good music. Not sure what it's like recently though as since GBBO, Poldark, and now The Apprentice is on, I'm a home bunny... Only venturing out for tea bags, milk, and digestive biscuits... Ooh Nelson's in Barsha Heights is alright too! Good music, DJ happy to take requests, and room to dance.

Same. We pay ours 35 an hour, and tip as and when we have change, or if we haven't done so for a couple of weeks, then at the end of the month we'll slip in a 50 or 100 if it's a religious holiday. We also give her lots of stuff we don't need any more. This week she'll be receiving an old [but still working!'> pair of GHDs, a Nicky Clarke hairdryer, and an M&S dressing gown!

Pretty normal behaviour for most guys I'd say. So long as that's all it is and it's not going further and he's not talking to other women etc. Guys will be guys. As a happily married woman I'd say I agree - it's normal for men to look at nudie women. It's hardwired, nd not really anything to be worried about unless he acts on it by directly communicating with them.

OK so the PRO I just spoke to said it has to be the original. Can anyone recommend a company they have used to do this?

Good morning! My employment visa expires 26 October 2016. But instead of renewing it for another 2 x years, I'd rather be sponsored by my working husband. Unfortunately our UK marriage certificate is not yet attested, and I'm told it's no longer possible to do this at the British Consulate or Embassy - instead it has to be sent/couriered to the UK by one of the many services available from a Google search of "UK marriage certificate attestation UAE" However, I am a bit nervous about sending the original certificate off... My friend said that she used a company that just required a clear scan of the marriage certificate, and they sent her back an attested [u'>certified copy[/u'> of their marriage certificate. But this was used for registering their daughter's birth - not for spouse sponsorship. Does anyone know if for spouse sponsorship the attested marriage certificate HAS to be the original? Or will a certified copy suffice? TIA

I think it's OK...up to a certain age of course. However my problem with VB's pic, is not her fault, as I doubt she was thinking this deeply about it but...the head tilt. It made it so that I swear to God when I first saw the pic from afar, as a small thumbnail on the DM sidebar of shame, I honestly thought "Oh here we go. Which female celebs are being faux lesbians for attention again?" When I looked closer and saw it was her and her 5 year old child, I was horrified that I'd thought that! :\: But there's something about that positioning that tells my brain it's a romantic kiss. And when I saw it again a few days later, again, my first thought was "These girls must be in BB. Kissing to play up to the cameras and stay in and- OH MY GOD IT'S VB AND HER DAUGHTER AGAIN ARRRGGGHHHH!!!"

Thank you for your reply, Lettie, but wow...talk about conflicting information! We regularly re-apply for Schengens whilst the old ones are still valid (because they only give domestic workers 3 x month validity) and have never had a problem. However after doing a bit of Googling it's apparent that as the rules regarding Schengen are "not harmonized" yet, different countries have different rules AND different immigration/passport control agents enforce those rules differently. For example one couple said they got fined somewhere when exiting the Schengen area on an expired visa (despite, like my example, they did actually enter Schengen on a valid visa) but one guy is saying in Amsterdam they were more "laid back" and didn't fine him or even query him on the fact that he was exiting Schengen (returning back to UK) on an expired visa. So, I guess it's just pot luck! I'll be reapplying for their visas just in case though.. *sigh*

We've lived in The Greens for 3 x years and we love it and have never felt a need or want to move. Yes, it's one of the more expensive areas in Dubai (compared to like JVT etc) but it's worth it. It's green, clean, got a nice lake, shops, salons, eateries, close to SZR, and the best part, it's animal friendly! :) So lots of [mainly neutered'> cats around and people taking their dogs for walks.

Good idea. Will give the mirror and side lights ago. To be honest I wouldn't want a row of bulbs at the top anyway - just 2 down the sides so this should work out fine. Thanks so much for your reply!

Good evening ladies, I've been after one of those swanky Hollywood style vanity mirrors for a while now - the one with the light bulbs framing the mirror. Does anyone know where I can buy one from? Online they're all £250 - £300!! Srsly! That's a lot, right? I thought maybe I could build/make one myself but after watching a few YouTube videos it's waaaay beyond my capabilities. It's time like these I wish I had a "handy" person in my circle of friends! Anyway, has anyone ever seen them in the shops?

Sorry, I should have mentioned that yes, I know you can buy them in the UK, but as with a lot of things, my Mum is CONVINCED that everything from Dubai is of better quality, so she wanted me to bring her some back. To be honest, I'd have to agree. The light pink, verging on white, pomegranate kernels you see in some UK purchased pomegranates, pales in comparison to the the ever consistent dark ruby red of the Dubai ones!

Nope, it depends whether you get 30 calendar days holiday or 22 working days as holiday. if it's calendar days, the weekends are counted. if it's working days, then they aren't. This is how I used to get 'extra' holiday days, because I'd book my leave from the Sunday, returning on the Thursday, so I'd get 9 days holiday and only have 5 deducted. Yes, I get 30 calendar days holiday so I guess that's why my weekends are counted...:( Thanks for the replies everyone! Also, 1 more question - Thursday 05 May will be a UAE national holiday (Al Isra'a Wal Mi’raj - Ascension day) Apparently that day is not deducted from the 10 leave days, and I also don't get it back as a day-in-lieu. Is that right?

Hi everyone, Is there a sandwich shop out there that supplies UK-esque sandwich fillings? Yes, I'm talking mature cheddar cheese and Branston pickle on thick white door stop bread  That sort of thing. Every lunch time I fantasise about heading on down to a sandwich shop like the ones I used to go to in the U.K. Choosing a cheese topped roll, or a baguette, then staring up at the huge blackboard full of ingredients to choose from, ordering, then throwing a bag of Monster Munch and a KitKat bar on the counter to go with it. Hasn't some kind soul brought this concept to Dubai yet? If so, where?

From the gotoursdubai.com website: "Hatta border open and 35AED to exit / Tue 01 2016. Contrary to media news reports, Hatta border is NOT closed. The border is very much alive and kicking. New rules mean that anyone exiting from any of the UAE borders by road must pay 35AED. This is in addition to the 50AED required for the Oman visa for people who are doing Visa Runs. There are also news articles suggesting that Visa Runs are "No More". This is also not true, because we have trips going every day successfully."

Loads of quirky and funny cards at 'Typo' at Me'aisem City Centre Mall. But I totally feel your pain about how pathetic the card selection here in this country is... Why?! Since living here, not once have we ever validated our parking ticket at MOE, but we constantly live in the fear that one of these days we're going to get stopped at the barrier, not for not paying (I can't think of of a time where we'd ever spend 4+ hours at the mall!), but for having not validated our ticket. When we go to Souk Madinat, we always validate our ticket. Mainly because there's tons of signage everywhere as well as people stood next to the machine pretty much reminding you "Have you validated your ticket?" But MOE doesn't seem bothered  Has anyone here ever got stopped for not validating their ticket? Or should we not lose any more sleep over it and just carry on the way we have been? (JK about the sleep thing.. )

OP, when you say you don't have any important stuff (apart from your dining table) that you want to take back, do you mean like, toaster, coffee table, bookcase, TV, etc? Because it will cost considerably more to take back these items than just your dining table, obviously. I'd say contact Allied for a free survey to see what the difference in cost would be between shipping just the 1 dining table, vs the dining table and all your other bits. Only you can decide how important these extra bits are to you. However I suspect that once you see the price of shipping bigger volume of stuff, you'll stick with just taking your dining table, haha!
