Hi, there is available company housing. Location and types of houses depend whether pilot is a first officer or captain. If u wish for housing allowance, you can request but the waiting list is long. We have been in the list for a year now. As for school busus i think its not included in the school fees. Which means u will have to pay. However qatar airways has their own school Oryx International School which might be included. (I’m not certain on this). Anyway hope this helps, feel free to ask me anymore questions. Or you can private message me.

Hi, I am looking for information on housing for families for Qatar Airways pilots. I came across this thread and I have no clue how to post a question :) Is there available company housing? Where? Do we have the option of taking the allowance or company housing? Does the company pay for school buses? Hoping you can help, thanks in advance

Hello Queenie, No advice I'm afraid as we're waiting to move but my husband is hoping to start in August on B777 also. We are from UK and have two children (5yrs and 2yrs) so will be following this post for any info you get! Hopefully we'll meet over there. Good Luck xx Hi there Hope you don't mind my reply to your post. We are from the Uk and looking to move to Doha after Christmas with my husbands job (he's starting in August this year). I myself have a 2 year old and 4 year old due to start school in September. Have you moved out there yet? What area are you living in if you don't mind me asking? Have you looked into schools? Thanks Lisa x

Hi Queenie! I am a wife of a A330 FO and been here for a year. We live in Barwa City which is nice for family living. Life here is generally quite peaceful, minus the occasional crazy traffic situation. Since your kid is still a baby you don't have to worry about schools which is a nightmare. The weather has now started to get crazy hot, but come October it should start cooling down a bit. for the 6-7 months that the weather is nice, there are lots of fun outdoor events taking place to keep you entertained. Let me know if you have any specific questions you need answered. Happy to help :) Hi is there a chance I could contact you personally? My fiancè will most likely join qa and I'm trying to get an idea of what life would be there. I have loads of questions and don't really know someone who could answer them!

Hi, my husband is first officer with Qatar Airways he has been there since May 2015 and living in company accommodation. We went over at Easter to visit and see country,we will be moving to Doha permanently from UK in July/ possibly August. I have 2 kids so currently sorting out schools places, visas etc and we will stay in company accommodation with my husband as they have given him a decent size apartment at Holiday Villa. Most of these apartments are for families of Qatar Airways staff. I'm yet to experience what our daily routine will be like as I don't think I will be ready to drive over there straight away and currently don't have any other family members or friends over there, so would be nice to meet some new people :-) Good luck with everything. Hi @ummsana, Totally new to this site and not sure if there's a way to send a message other than this way. But I'm moving next month with my toddler and a baby on the way to join my husband who's been with QR since late last year. We're going to be at Holiday Villa as well and it'll be good to get some helpful information and eventually meet you when I'm there if you're up to it. Let me know. Thanks!

Hi SheeMIA305! Barwa City is actually quite nice. The accommodation is good, especially when you compare it with what most houses/ apartments are like here in Qatar. The bathrooms are clean and simple. Kitchen is decent. Plus a storage room, which comes in very handy! The apartments have 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. There are lots of green areas here. Also, there are 2 schools, and I think a couple of pre-schools as well, a grocery store and a department store, a pharmacy, some basic eating places like McDonald's, KFC, papa John's, Starbucks, Costa Coffee, and a food court. Unfortunately there is no pool or gym. Let me know if you have any more questions :) Best of luck with the move.

Hi everyone, My husband starts his type rating on B777 in September and we're wondering what to do about joining him. We're relocating from Yorkshire and have two kids (6 & 2). Obviously we'll be too late to join the September academic intake for my eldest and not sure if he qualifies for the education allowance immediately or not? We'd be hoping for a January start for her, I think. Any ideas how long it takes to get family visas sorted for us to join him?? Thanks for any help you can offer, it's the total Unknown!! X Dear Tabathoo, I would recommend that you get in touch with the schools you are interested in and get an off site assessment arranged so that your kids get in line for a place in your school of choice. Getting places in schools is the toughest so do not take it easy :) The visa process does not take long and is quite smooth especially since QA has a dedicated MOI office dealing with these issues. You can always come here on a visit visa and then convert it to a resident visa which is what we did. The education allowance kicks in as soon as your husband joins. Hope that answers a few of your questions.

Applying for a family visa usually does require 6 mos of bank statements. However, some employers are able to skip this step - I know mine does, but your DH should check with his PRO for details. I'd be more concerned about when your children can join a school. A few years ago, the MoE said that students were not allowed to join mid-year. Check with the schools you have applied to.

Hi Tabathatoo, My husband has been in Qatar since May 2015 and we are still in process of moving over. Unfortunately the process is not that quick, for example when you apply for visas your husband will need to provide six months worth of bank statements to prove he has stable income and minimum is 10,000 riyal a month. You can apply for a family visa, both you, husband and children will have to submit relevant documents such as passports, birth and marriage certificates, and for your husband proof of address, income and a letter from employer stating position and salary. When your children do start school you will need copies of all school reports from current and previous years. Also, upon arrival in Doha to complete the family visa process you all need to under go medical examinations such as blood tests and x rays within 72 hours (can be done at local hospital such as Hamad). All in all for us it has been a lengthy and expensive process, unless of course you have the finance to speed things up a bit :-). This website was useful to me: http://www.lifeinqatar.com/Pages/en/article/living/getting-setup-in-qatar-as-an-expat.html Hope that helps and good luck!

Hi Rose9! The rules have recently changed and yes I have heard the same thing about GCC license holders, that they can take a direct test. I have years and years of driving experience, yet I need to enrol in a course to "relearn" how to drive! I haven't mentally accepted that! So far, I have been using the services of a driver combined with my husband's. Perhaps after this summer I can enrol in the driving school  Hi expat2b, I can totally understand your situation. Taking a license in Oman is crazy too but have heard Qatar is more difficult and strict. All the very best for your lessons.?
