I had an amazing girl who used to do my blonde highlights. Sadly she returned to the U.K. So I went to a hairdresser on the Beach Road. Worst mistake of my entire life. I just wanted a few blonde highlights. Rather than going into the full tragic story my hair is ruined and I mean ruined. It's snapped so much and is frizzy on top. I did have a lovely bob. I'm treating it myself everyday now. They gave me a treatment after me having to pay 50 dhs each way again by taxi. They offered me a Brazilian blowout which would have damaged my hair more. Offered me nail treatments which I declined as that wouldn't help my hair. They had no idea how to colour my hair and I have been so upset I was even in tears in the salon as they even turned my hair grey and I mean grey. I don't want to go back but I really need help. I'm so sick of people ruining my hair here and paying for the privilege. Please can someone recommend an amazing hair dresser that knows her stuff that may be able to rescue what I have left. I feel like I have been left with a full block colour of white and yellow and now my roots are coming through and I'm at a loss as to what to do. I thought I had learnt my lesson years ago but now I'm back to square one. I don't care the cost now just need serious help. Any great advice would be really appreciated. TIA. Check my hairdressers facebook page, 'powered by Claude'. I trust that she will give the right consultation. I highly recommend her, Thank you so much valentinastafetta for your recommendation. I just returned from Claude. What a miracle worker. She could see the damage that had been done to my hair but managed to salvage it. It will take time for the full condition to get back to normal. But my colour is great. My advice to anyone that has or wants blonde highlights please go by highly recommended ones only. Check reviews online if you can. I have learnt my lesson now and it has cost me dearly. Please go to Claude if you are wanting someone good and with expertise. I have seen some amazing 'looking' salons here in Dubai but its pointless having them look great if some of their staff have no idea what they are doing. Some are just playing at being hairdressers and annoyingly.... we pay for it.

Well I wish you the best of luck. Very hard to find flowers for 50 to 60 AED. If I were you i'd probably get artificial ones http://www.lightinthebox.com/c/faux-floral_5582 I know New Look have a selection of fake plants and flowers now but they come in pots. You could always cut the stems I suppose so you could use your vase. Ikea might be best option at the prices you need, but once again fake, plus you'd pay for delivery. How about Dubizzle or local pages on Facebook ? But unlikely to deliver. If you spend slightly more you could get some lovely fake ones and you wouldn't have to keep replacing them which in the end would save you money in the long run. Saves water going off and always will look lovely. If they ever get dusty you just pour a generous sprinkle of salt into a carrier bag, put the fake flowers in but holding the stems tightly around the edge of the carrier bag so its closed and give them a really good shake. The salt takes all the dust off. Sorry just thought I would add that tip.

This has been well known for quite a while now but I thought to alert those of you that may not have seen it as its doing the rounds again. This was today. I had a few items advertised on Dubizzle. Then I received a 'message' on my phone asking me to send more pictures etc to this guys email. He never specified which item he was interested in so I asked. His response, just was please could you send me more pictures. Once again I asked... Which item is it you are interested in as I have a few items on the site? He then asked me to to forward pictures of all items I was selling and final prices etc. So like a fool I sat and added picture after picture and details etc. Then came the reply.... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Okay thank you.I’m satisfied with the condition. I won't be able to come and view it myself because I am currently away for work.but if can you guarantee that it is all in a good condition, I will meet up with your last price for all. I know there are other buyers patronizing you already. This is more reason why i would like to get this as soon as possible.i will pay you through PayPal as it is the fastest & easiest way for me to make payment at this moment, do not worry about PayPal charges, i will take care of that and about the transportation, i shall arrange for a transport agent to come to your home directly for the pickup and transport it to my home in Kiev( UKRAINE) after i have made all the necessary payment and you have confirmed this on your account. So if you accept this transaction, you should send me your info requested below if you have an account already with PayPal:- Name : PayPal Email : Mobile Number amount: so that i can proceed with the transfer and then we can arrange for my shipping company to come for the pick up, after you receive your money. I will need the address for the pick up to be arranged. i expect your reply soon. Thank you --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As soon as they mentioned Paypal etc.... alarm bells. I won't tell you my response incase I might get blocked. So be careful ladies. SCAM...

Why not just buy a pot of bubbles. Or one of those colouring books that just need water rather than paints and a paint brush. Both so cheap and so much fun.:) For the older ones, maybe a fridge magnet or yoyo.

Hello pri87, Sharaf DG. They do a price guarantee on items in their store. But be warned though this doesn't usually apply to another store advertising cheaper online. It is usually in store prices. I know its not a TV you're looking for but I saw the exact same TV being advertised on a well known website and it happened by chance that the other store also had the cheaper price in store too. So i mentioned this and once they had checked it out I was given 250 in vouchers as their price promise. So I was able to buy something else too. Their guarantees in Sharaf DG I think are so much better too. Well worth checking out.

Hi D-J Firstly I don't think you're on your own when it comes to these forms. Sometimes you have to keep going over and over each part then begin to feel like you are taking part in a Mensa test. You are the applicant. Then yes relationship 'mother'... then your full name. This is because you are applying for your young child. Hate those blessed forms. Don't envy your evening much. Good luck. xxx

When our eldest was a toddler she loved her dummy. But then came the day I thought I must get her to give it up. The endless nights I would sit on the floor by her tiny bed helping her settle to sleep without it. But then one day I finally cracked it. I threw away all the dummies in the house and for 2 weeks she did amazing. Then one day I was in the kitchen and in she wandered and said 'look mummy'. She had a dummy in her mouth that had obviously been hiding amongst her toys. I quickly said oh let me see it.... she gave it to me and I got some scissors, turned away from her and sneakily cut the top of the teat off and gave it back to her. She once again put it into her mouth. I said no there is something wrong with it and asked for it back again. I turned my back and cut the whole of the remaining teat off it so it was just the holder and said oh it is ok now. And gave it back to her. She tried putting it back into her mouth and looked at it. I carried on preparing dinner pretending to ignore her reaction. She left it on the side and walked away to play. When I look back now it was so cruel but also very funny. Evil mother.

Hi Barlas, It appears that they can only be contacted via Facebook or like you said email. As far as I am aware Facebook never actually completely shuts down your account anyway.. So might be an idea to login again ( all your information should still be there) and then you can also message them directly. Wishing you the best of luck and hope your son gets his well deserved trophy. xx:win:

Hi Pinky13, Labello do a Sun Protect that has I believe an SPF 30. Sephora have their own lip balm stick SPF 20 Boots usually sell a variety too. But the best one I love is Elizabeth Arden 8 hour stick. SPF 15. For many years they were plain but now have started a range of tinted ones too. Although i'm not sure if they are easily accessible here, usually duty free.:)

Hi malta, First question, we were very lucky. If you have a property in the UK then your DD will be classed as home student. Our DD had completed her Junior Cert ( Irish system for GCSE) just before moving here. The only issue we found transferring to the IB was that although she had 3 languages under her belt she had to learn another one from scratch in IB even though it was just for her last 2 years. Thank god she doesn't have my brains. She chose IB over A'levels because she wanted the choice of studying in the USA. This is where she may decide to work. She did get offered a few great scholarships in the US but after looking into things we realised that because she was going to study medicine after a few years she would then have to transfer there and then reapply for a second scholarship. This was our dilemma as they aren't that eager to offer a second scholarship to International students. Medicine is an awkward one. Anyway she chose UK but is also doing an extra exam so that she always has the option of going there. The best advice I can give to anyone that is worried about this is call the universities directly that your child is thinking about applying to and just ask them what is their criteria for being classed as a home student. Least then you'll have some idea before applying. That's what we did. xxx

Hello seasand, actually the consultant I met was the carrear counsellr in my daughter's school as well.n she was really very helpful n didn't charge a fortune.....v didn't face a single issue regarding anything n presently my daughter is studying bio-medical sciences at the university of Dundee,Scotland ....actually, selecting the best university for th child is a very confusing issue..there are many advices ....I hope our friend finds what she wants........ Hi pinky13, Yes I agree that the move from any school to university is very confusing and even moreso when you've been an expat for so long. Big relief when they get settled and are happy though isn't it? I wish your daughter the best of luck. Did you actually have to pay your daughters school counsellor though? I thought that was part of their job?

Hi Seasand thanks for your reply. Do you mind me asking which University your daughter did get in? Did she have to go through Clearing as you said so many classed her as an international student? Thanks No she didn't go through Clearing. Although that could be an option. DD is studying medicine in London... very long course. Whilst I can understand the reply from pinky13 I would also be careful as some of the places here can cost a small fortune for advice which you can find out yourself. My advice is to go and speak to your daughters career guidance counsellor at school and see what they come up with. There is something I need to put by you, so when I next see you online I will message you via this post.

Hi ladies, I have quite a collection of clothes that I am finished with. All still in good condition, I'm just fed up looking at them ha! I was thinking of asking my agency maid if she wanted any of them but I don't want to insult her by doing so. I don't want to just bin them and would rather they go to someone who would get some use of them. Have any of you offered clothes etc to maids? How did they react to this? TIA I have passed on clothes, shoes, bags and even perfume. She was delighted with everything. I just showed her a bag of things and said if you want anything you are welcome to take it otherwise I am going to give them to charity. She took the lot. . To save any problems for her at the agency I also gave her a note which stated I gave them to her. If you are in anyway uneasy doing it then what nannygirl does is amazing.

Our youngest DD went to IB school for last two years here before applying for university in the UK. Born in the UK but lived in Ireland since she was 2 years old. This caused a problem as she had been out of the UK for over so many years. If you have property in UK then they will usually be classed as a home student. If you don't own property then they may not be classed as a home student. Depends how long they have been out of the UK. So many classed her as international student. Luckily she got an amazing one that classed her as a home student and she has been there for 3 years so far. If I can help anymore just let me know.

It just goes to show you that they have the taxi's there AND available during peak times. Obviously the taxi's will come flocking if they can charge more. Just like they do at the airports. RTA should make it a priority to send extra taxi's to the Malls' anyway when they know it is so busy. I think I might go for a Lexus next time.... least I know I will be getting ripped off before I open the door.

That sounds like the taxi driver tried it on... The security just informed him that taxis are needed at the Mall and it wasn't booked for a specific passenger... I have just called RTA and Metro Taxi and apparently yes they have assured me that the mall security are now calling taxis during busy periods to speed up waiting times. These are called 'call out taxi's' and yes the starting price is 12 Dhs. My complaint was not the driver but the system. A customer should be told that they are a call out taxi before having everything loaded in the boot or you're in the taxi yourself. There should be some notification on the taxi to inform the customer that they are a call out or the driver should tell you from their window. Yes it will state on the meter but who checks that before they get all their groceries into a taxi? Anyway logged my complaint and had my moan for the day. So if you're at the malls just ask the driver before loading all your groceries ladies. Learnt my lesson anyway.

Yesterday I was at MOE in the taxi rank queue at around 4pm. Queue moved relatively quickly given the usual wait time due to change of shifts. Once groceries etc in taxi and before leaving the driver said the starting price is 12 Dhs. When I asked why he said that the Mall security call the taxi's because of hi demand and so its a 'call out taxi'. In all my years of being here this was the first time I have heard this at the mall. Just wondering if it is a new thing they have brought in? Plus if it is, then be warned.
