Our maid has been with us for 4 years and my 4 year old adores her. She will not be renewing with us as she wants to go into retail/something different. This won't be happening until Feb but I want to get my DS used to idea before it happens, ideas on what to say & when to approach it would be welcome before we decide how to go about it & what's best for him. TIA

Hi ladies, Has anyone had this done in Dubai, it looks really natural! I have an appointment in a salon in Dubai mall with a British girl who has a great reputation for eyebrow tattoos but would really prefer the embriodery if I can get it ? TIA

Thanks ladies, this property we have had for 6 years and it was a very worthwhile investment. Without getting into too many details the mining in the area (Iron Ore) has taken a hit so the main mining company no longer requires the extra accommodation for employees so the area has certainly changed. This isn't expected to be permanent so we are keeping the property. The issue with our neighbors is of course a delicate one. I am so sorry if the term indigenous offends you however it is relevant hence my mentioning it. I have been told placing a complaint with Government housing will fall on deaf ears due to this fact so it is indeed a factor unfortunately.

I've been very fortunate with mine, no naked butt photo ops however things happen! She wasn't showcasing her sons butt he was clearly going to wet himself imminently. I just think kids are unpredictable, they can surprise us at inconvient times & as much as this isn't an ideal situation it's not news worthy. People taking photos of such things should get a life or get reported.

It's ridiculous that this even made the news! Kids have accidents & some don't communicate that they need to go to the toilet until the announcement 'Mummy it's coming!' It's not an ideal situation but hardly a big deal. The fact that someone took a photograph of a young child with their pants down however is unacceptable, isn't it illegal here to take a photograph of a child without permission?

Hi Cherpie, we just did this today at al Badaa Clinic. It's a walk in appointment, additional polio drops for all children under 5. It's an additional dose on top of the already recommended one. You only need the Emirates ID card for your child and it's free. Hope this helps x

The welfare of my son far out ways the opinion of a stranger. If that unfortunately offends the occasion person I'll take the critism on the chin & apologize for any upset. However his well being is my priority regardless.

Saggi I understand you feel the need to be polite but more importantly you have to be firm & clear with what is acceptable your home. It's not easy when first get a new maid/nanny but her role is to supervise your dd, she can make her calls when she is not working. Perhaps you would feel more comfortable asking your DH to handle it? My nanny does not have internet access at all & it's not permissible for her to use her phone when caring for my DS (unless I am home & she has specifically spoken to me about it) I hope you have a successful chat with her this morning & good luck!

Hi First time mum ? I'm not a Feb mum but I wanted to help put your mind at ease with your choice of Dr. I will be delivering any day now with Dr Ibrahim and he has been totally supportive in my preference to have a natural delivery. However if he has any medical reason for the alternative I would be sensible enough to follow his advice. He has delivered many of my friends babies all natural apart from one who delivered twins and every one of them has had nothing but praise for him. I know it can be stressful selecting a Dr but you have an awesome one so try not to worry yourself, very best wishes in your pregnancy & delivery ?

B-Safe in Times Square sells them, I got a reusable, lightweight actual seat in there for less than 100 Dhs. I use it for for DS who is too heavy for me to hold above the toilet seat in public toilets. I just wash and Dettol it after use. There's lots of handy little items in there!

Katt_007, I am a little taken aback by this thread. If you felt the scratches were adult size why didn't you confront her? Your daughters wellbeing is your first responsibility, not acting on her behalf could result on her losing trust in you. It is absolutely not acceptable for anyone to put their hands on your child. My nanny was left in no doubt as to how I would react to any such behaviour as early as her interview stage. Whether you were too good or whatever reason this could have happened is really beside the point.

Hi JJBAUS, You are probably home now so you can get Prune juice in Coles or any supermarket really, the one with pulp is what I go for as it is quite filling. Otherwise I get mine here in Spinneys. I'm a big fan of routines in general, however Gina Ford was really not my cup of tea at all. Some of my friends really liked her but may I recommend you check out a book I loved that I got in Oz called 'Save Our Sleep' by Tizzie Hall. I took bits of that & bits of the Baby Whisperer: Sleep by Tracey Hogg and found a routine I was happy with for DS1. It may not be suitable for the new baby but it's good to have a bit of guidance & motivation stuck on the wall to help when you're feeling tired. I hope you are all keeping well, our due dates are fast approaching! Xxx

No lolacat, I don't have any trouble understanding peoples concerns it's a worrying time for everyone, wither you live in Scotland or have friends or family living there. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, I just take exception to some peoples ignorant, self indulgent & downright rude comments! How on earth can a comment be self indulgent? Everyone is entitled to an opinion as long as they don't disagree with yours perhaps? When did everyone become so nasty to one another?! Shame on the lot of u! Scottishbambi - maybe you meant self absorbed? A preoccupation of ones own thoughts or interests

Daiquiri did you decide to get the Doppler Scan? My Dr at City just referred me for one but it's 1550 Dhs, I'm not particularly keen to have an unnecessary & expensive scan done that isn't covered. My pregnancy has been smooth so far & I'm fairly certain I didn't have one with DS1. Also does anyone know a more reasonably priced clinic that does Doppler scans? Is Genesis the same price? TIA

Clicking on this thread this evening has left such a bitter taste in my mouth. How sad to see fellow Scottish 'ladies' being so disrespectful of anothers point of view & being down right patronizing. I normally have a sense of home & camaraderie when I see a Scottish reference or name among the threads, clearly here is not the place for that.

Hi Kaamousha, I know for sure with Emirates you need a Fitness To Fly certificate from your Dr from the end of your 28th week of pregnancy in order to fly with them. I flew with them around 20 weeks and was asked as I have a massive bump ? Other airlines will have their own version of this so best to contact your particular airline for specifics. I'm sure you've discussed you travel plans with your dr anyways so just ask for the cert on your next visit. For me when I travel pregnant I wear support socks up to the knee, walk around and do the inflight leg exercises & drink a crazy amount of water. I also take my own food just in case what's offered isn't the best choice for pregnant mamas. I also travel as light as possible with hand luggage & ask someone nice to help retrieve my case from the baggage carousel at the other end. TBH I normally don't even have to ask to always someone lovely who spots your bump and offers. I haven't come across help for pregnant people on my travels but no harm in asking your airline. Wishing you a safe journey & a relaxing time at home with your family before your delivery xxx

I second Spanx! I also got a wrap around Velcro belt from Life pharmacy to give me support around the house. Go easy on yourself in the few weeks & don't put yourself under unnecessary pressure. Once I was feeling better, settled into my breast feeding & sleeping a little more I started thinking about my tummy & to be honest it went back to normal mostly of its own accord. Good luck ?

Hi ladies, I chose not to send my summer 2011 DS to school this year for many of the reasons already covered on this thread. However, I was recently told by a couple of teacher friends that he would not be allowed to join FS1 in 2015 as he would have turned 4 by then, he would have to join FS2 (providing there are spaces) This would defeat the purpose of my holding him back to begin with. I hope this makes sense I haven't had my coffee yet ? edited by Gilly3 on 12/09/2014

Hi Shella, I found out the same a couple of weeks ago but have managed not to have any high readings by controlling my diet which is a relief! I also had GD in my last pregnancy so wasn't surprised really. If you like carbs in the morning have you thought about Pumpernickel or low GI bread, I've found if I have either of them with eggs or Weetabix with skimmed milk my readings are less than 100 but then everyone is different! The advice I was given was basically avoid fruit juice, root veg & carb combinations, full fat dairy, processed foods, sauces, honey & sugar in general. It's a bit restricting but seems to be working, I hope this helps a little and very best of luck! Take care of yourself & bump ?

Hi ladies! It's so exciting how quickly time is flying by! JJB are you taking iron supplements? I started a couple of weeks ago taking one along with a Vit C and a glass of prune juice every two days and I'm feeling lots better during the day energy wise. I have GD again but it's fine I had it in my last pregnancy and haven't had a single high reading since the glucose test so my diet must be fine. ( My fingers are flippin' sore from all the prodding though lol) Kaamousha its so lovely when you have little kicks isn't it ? Mine is very active at night & seeing my tummy move so much is crazy! Has anyone been planning their breast feeding schedules etc? Not sure if I've been OTT about all the lists and routines I've been preparing ?

Hi! I flew around 20 weeks with my 3 year old on both flights. If you can get a business class seat absolutely take it, it'll be much more comfortable for you & perhaps your daughter can get a nap in a more comfortable seat. I did a day flight going & night flight coming back, having travelled lots with my DS I normally opt for night flights so he will sleep through the flight. Bear in mind you may have to carry her off the aircraft if you don't wake her when the seat belt sign comes on for landing. I pack lots of snacks (nothing with too much sugar as this backfires on you when they are hyperactive) IPad with new games (normally he gets very limited time with this) small, light new toys like coloring books, stickers etc. For yourself have a large bottle of water, some flight socks & keep moving your feet (inflight exercises you can do in your seat are available on most airlines entertainment systems) You will probobly find she will be amazing & you've worried over nothing, very best of luck!
