I desperately need advice from anyone who has undergone IVF as to what maternity insurance policy. I have been told there are only 3 insurers in the UAE who will cover medically assisted pregnancies such as IVF. I wanted a policy with BUPA but they are now saying they do not offer Newborn coverage until after 90 days as IVF tends to cause multiple births and there is a higher risk of complications. The other company I have been told will cover me is NOW Health, has anyone had any positive or negative experience with them?

I would be interested to hear from those ladies going through IVF or have had IVF as to what insurer they went through and if they have been happy. TIA.

Hi Skyhighgirl Hope this isn't totally off the point - I haven't had IVF so I might be misunderstanding the question(sorry). Are you wanting insurance to actually cover the IVF treatment? I did lo...

Orient Allianze (Arab Orient Allianze) covers IVF. We are with them on Gold plan. I think you have to have had their policy for 18 months prior to treatment but could be wrong. We did treatment with Concieve via Dr Munira and some of the treatment she put through direct billing as fertility treatment - i.e. the ovulation induction and drugs etc. But as the actual egg collection and transfer was with Concieve in Sharjah (not direct billing) we had to pay for it and then claim it back and the insurance paid it back in full. The IVF failed and then we tried Dr Fakih and I had a cyst aspirated and my DH some hormone shots and the insurance paid for them too. I actually fell pregnant naturally that time so didn't do full IVF but we were covered up to 17,000 US dollars which would have been just over two rounds of IVF. Good luck

Daman does fully cover all IVF & ICSI and associated costs with their Thiqa, Aounak & Reaaya, Premier, Thiqa Top-Up and Customized Plans, (stated within the policy docs as 'Assisted Reproductive Techniques (ART))'. And yes, Dr Fakhir's clinic accepts direct billing with Daman. See: http://www.damanhealth.ae/eDamanApp/en/FormsGuides/CoverageInformation/MedicalTopics.html?div=CoverageInformation&subdiv=submenu16 (Forms & Guides section, then click on Assisted Reproductive Techniques for the full info). Sadly I only have a regional plan so I'm not covered, so we paid ;-) Just coming to the end of an IVF cycle (my 1st) with Dr Fakhir ...... I get my final result this coming Saturday and the wait is near on killing me!!

A friend of mine conceived through IVF and no one at the hospital asked her how she got pregnant - the insurance covered it just like normal. Also, I asked her, and she said Daman covers appointments at Dr Fakeh, at least they did when she did it!

Hi Hannah, No I am not looking for insurance to cover IVF as I understand no one covers it, but there are only 3 companies in the UAE that will cover pregnancy/complications/newborn coverage etc if you conceive through IVF. I was originally going to go with BUPA but now they are saying they will not provide Newborn coverage as IVF causes multiple births and more prone to complications. So from what I am reading I am guessing most people dont tell their insurance providers they conceived through IVF, unfortunately I do not have a choice as due to medical reasons I have to have IVF to get pregnant so if the insurance company contacted my doctor or gynae they would find out I went through IVF to conceive and I am not sure I would want to take that risk? If anyone else has some advice with their medical insurance provider who has gone through IVF I would love to hear from you!

Hi Skyhighgirl Hope this isn't totally off the point - I haven't had IVF so I might be misunderstanding the question(sorry). Are you wanting insurance to actually cover the IVF treatment? I did look into this as I thought I was going to need IVF & my work insurance doesnt cover it, but understand its pretty hard to come by. I had fertility treatment to conceive (couple of cycles of ovulation induction etc). The ovulation induction cycle scans, appointments and meds weren't covered by insurance, so I basically never disclosed them to the insurers, just paid cash. I had previously claimed all my diagnostic tests though. Once I was chemically pregnant (from the end of the 2ww), my fertility doc just treated it as a normal pregnancy in terms of insurance claim forms for ultrasounds, blood tests, the extra meds (progesterone, baby aspirin etc) and made no mention of how I had conceived. I've graduated to a regular OB now and she knows my history but she said she wouldn't mention it on the claim forms / her medical notes as some insurers can be funny about it. Do you have to tell your insurer about the IVF? How will they find out if you don't tell them? Again, sorry if I've missed the point!
