My first question is where is your child going to school ? Your choice of location should really be within a sensible distance of this. Only you can answer the villa or apartment question, what’s your preference? Although with a large dog a villa would seem to make sense. Lastly but most importantly what is your rental budget ? That will dictate what you can rent and where.

Suppose it depends on what other measures you are taking. Do you still go to the mall, supermarket, coffee shop, meet your friends, gym, restaurants etc .... all of which probably carry as much risk as a single maid.

Assuming you have use of a car then I would choose Damac Hills. Others may say it’s ‘far out’ but far out from what ? Anything in Dubai can be far from somewhere else. It all depends on where you want to go. There are plenty of restaurants and supermarkets and other shops within 5-10 min of Damac. It is also very well connected to the motorway network to get you to other parts of Dubai and further afield. The palm in my opinion would be a nightmare, surrounded by construction and traffic for the foreseeable future. I’ve been on the palm and it’s taken me 90 min to get off when the traffic kicks in.

Couple of things to consider and to be totally realistic. You say schooling and accommodation is supplied, do you mean you have an allowance or you are given the accommodation and school place ? These are two very different things. If you have an allowance then the level of this will/may dictate where you can afford to live and the type of accommodation. Likewise your education allowance may not necessarily cover the fees. If you have both provided then the area you live and quality of accommodation may impact how well you settle and your ultimate happiness. Whether living costs are expensive is all relative to family income whatever others say they spend. Likewise whether or not you can save. All I would say is do your research thoroughly, Dubai can be a fantastic place to live but can also be very miserable if you get it wrong.

If this is causing a problem to your general health rather than just a cosmetic issue that needs fixing then my advice would be to seek immediate medical help from a regular doctor before it becomes an emergency. ...... your general health is the priority...... your family will be in even more trouble if you fall seriously ill because of this.

I've done some research and the medication I'm on (vertraline) is listed as a semi-controlled substance. However, I'm not sure if that means I can bring 30 days worth or 3 months worth. I'm certain...
Travel insurance is a good idea anyway if you are not going to covered on your husbands medical insurance. But whether they will cover drugs for an existing condition is another matter. The other thing to keep in mind with travel insurance is that you need to be transparent about the reason for travelling to Dubai as it’s not strictly a holiday if you are relocating, just make sure to read the small print :) If your husbands company are relocating both of you, paying air travel etc then you may find they will cover your medical insurance. When we moved we were both covered as soon as we landed in the country. In certain circumstances residents can bring in 12 months supply of some controlled drugs. Worth contacting the health ministry directly for specific advice so you have something in writing fir customs should you need.

Hi Jessica A couple of things you need to do ..... firstly do some research on the drug you are taking against the list of drugs banned in Dubai. If it’s allowed you need to have a doctors letter/prescription showing that you are legally in possession of them, in case you are asked at customs. You mentioned that your husband is sponsoring you, who is paying your medical insurance .... will it be your husbands company or your husband ? If it’s the company then you may not have any say in the company that cover you. I have just checked our policy (BUPA Global) which covers mental health but doesn’t cover experimental treatments

in my first post i mentioned that I am doing it, frankly been doing it for past month, yes so far I do not feel like I lost weight, just built/maintained stamina, but I keep doing it also because ...
Seems like I have misunderstood your first post …… you seemed to be reaching out for help because nothing was working including the EMS. With regards to EMS and many other 'fad' type weight loss methods ...… ask people who have lost weight in 6-12 months whether they have kept the weight off, many wont have done ………. its also pretty common for people who use quick fix weight loss programs to be the type of person looking for weight loss without putting in effort of doing exercise and changing their eating habits, perhaps you are not one of those people - but many are ! Sustained weight loss is usually a lifestyle change with more exercise and cleaner eating …… generally unless people are willing to make small changes to their lifestyle instead of looking for the next 'quick fix', fad diet or new miracle supplement they will usually struggle to lose weight.

ok I respectfully asked to know what your opinion is based on to get an idea where you get your information from. Mine is based on research and feedback from friends who have been using it. However...
In your first post you indicated that EMS wasn't working, you are now saying that its great ? If its great and works then carry on using it. If its not working then perhaps ask yourself why ! Even if you don't have 30 mins spare, why not use the time spent using EMS to do some simple exercise ? Sometimes to lose weight and get fit you have to make sacrifices if you want results. Many busy people who genuinely want to lose weight get up 30 mins earlier or go to bed 30 min later in order to fit in some simple exercise. You may say I'm also judgmental but to say you cant find 30 min is an excuse. Its proven time and time again that exercise and clean diet works. Perhaps also look at the food you eat and/or your portion sizes …. many foods that claim to be 'healthy' are not always that healthy. There is no sustainable short cut to losing weight.

I would turn the question around and ask where you have seen all the good feedback and research ? All of it originates from the people who promote it. There is no true independent research that says it works. As has already been mentioned there is no substitute for proper exercise and clean eating ..... it’s proven it works ..... all other gimmicks just eat up your money and ultimately make someonelse very rich.

The reality is you will be living in Dubai not the UK and presumably will be paid here and not the UK ...... many things will be way more expensive than the UK and in the end it becomes pointless keep converting it back (in my humble opinion) There are many ways to watch British TV and films here at minimal or no cost but they all require an Internet connection.

I would always encourage anyone to visit if possible before taking the plunge (many don’t) at least it will give you the chance to look around where you’ll be living and get a feel for the place. The salary is manageable but does really depend on what sort of income and lifestyle you are used to. To live a comparable lifestyle as a western expat you do need a reasonable uplift in salary. A couple of serious things to consider with provided housing are the size, quality and location. Do some serious research on this because this alone could have a massive impact on whether you love or hate Dubai. Not all provided housing is that great.

Is the 25k after housing has been paid ? You will get very differing opinions from different nationalities as to whether 25k is enough. You can live on 25k but it’s not a huge salary for a western expat family of 4, particularly if you start eating into it with nursery fees and a second car. It also very much depends on your current lifestyle and expectations. Also factor in getting yourself setup which will vary depending on what is covered as part of the package. If you need to pay housing from the 25k then you may struggle.

Sim card to be used in an Iphone and then needs to connect to the internet on her laptop but there is no wifi where she will be staying.
I would get a prepay visitor SIM from Etisalat ..... you can get this from one of their stores and it’s registered against a passport with visitor/tourist visa. You can then add various data and call packs depending on your use. We had these when we first moved and they worked really well.

Hi Ranstone. Thanks for letting me know about AR2. I originally didnt consider it since I thought it is too new,.but certainly the Villas seem much nicer than AR1. Can you kindly tell me how is th...
Casa and Palma were the first two communities finished in AR2 and the Casa villas are 2+ years old now .... plenty of communal greenery. Lots of families here, communal play areas and pools that are easy to access wherever you live. Shops, restaurants and a fitness first gym. For us it has a great balance of being quiet but near everything we need. We used House Hunters as our agent and can highly recommend them, they are not just interested in a fast buck but helped and advised us throughout the whole moving process. Whether the villa is landscaped will be down to the individual landlord but we have a manageable size garden with well established grass, plants and shrubs, they cost a lot in water but worth it :)

Worth considering Arabian Ranches 2 ...... just a short school run ..... lots of new Villas just been released and quite a few 1-2 years old on the market ..... the amount of new properties is keeping the rents at a sensible level due to competition between landlords. We considered AR1 but were put off by the age of some villas and potential maintenance problems. We chose AR2 and don’t regret at all.

It’s difficult to know where to start to give you advice. My first advice would be visit here don’t just move blind (although many do) it’s not for everyone. Apart from that you really need to pay close attention to the financial side of things, get your formal job offer and then work out whether you can afford to live. It’s expensive to live here and to be here when short of money will be miserable. You can’t really start to plan until you know where you are going to work and how much you will earn. Don’t plan based on promises or ‘nearly’ job offers wait until you have the offer in black and white. Also don’t plan based on promises of commission etc. Apologies if I sound negative, I’m not at all, I’m just realistic and have seen many people being sold a dream that doesn’t exist.

I would check your contract ...... does it say anything about access for the landlord or representative ? ..... If you have got to grant access I would be inclined to fix 1 or 2 days per week when it suits you when you could grant access for maybe an hour or two. Let them work to your terms within reason.

my first advice would be never rely on commission here in Dubai as part of your essential income. Being completely blunt you will need a fair amount more than 12,500 to survive let alone live comfortably as a family, that said comfort means different things to different people. A 2 bed flat will likely eat 7,000 minimum, plus TV/Internet, utilities, nursery fees, groceries, travel expenses, minimum savings for an emergency. Also factor national insurance contributions in the UK to keep your pension rights, possibly retirement savings. Also question whether your husbands employer provides family medical care apart from him, if not you will have to fund this yourself. As you can see 12,500 will disappear quite quickly. I would approach it by making a comparison with your current income and lifestyle in the UK, if it’s lower then personally I would scrap the idea of coming. Many come here because they ‘like’ Dubai and end up blinkered to the costs. It can be a very miserable place to be if you are short of money or end up in debt to survive.

Depends slightly on the circumstances, if your are simply in transit then no, although you are still expected to be covered so maybe easier to have one. If you are arriving then you are expected to be dressed modestly until you leave the airport then you will need one. If you are going to the airport to catch a flight then yes and you need to wear it until the plane is clear of Saudi.
