Hi - not sure if there is a way to privately message you as there is on other forums. Can you share the Facebook group name? Thank you!

Thank you. We’re looking to enroll our kids in an IB school. Do you have recommendations on which schools to look at? Do we select our neighborhood based on the school? Are there decent American cu...
I'd say that would depend on yours/your partner's job. We chose the Springs because it's a 15min drive to mine and my husband's offices, but it's a 40min bus ride to my children's school. When picking a school, I'd recommend checking out the KHDA official website, as they have a ranking system based on the previous year's school inspections results :) IIRC "Outstanding" is the highest rating a school can get in Dubai, which means it's a fantastic school but likely very pricey too. Also do check out the Expat Women in Dubai Facebook group, there's more of us there!

Hi! The Springs and Jumeirah Park are both good picks! There's a lot of families there. I'd also recommend Discovery Gardens, The Lakes, The Greens, Motor City, and The Springs - all these neighbours are close to schools, have community parks where lots of kids go out to play (mine included :'> my family and I live in the Springs), and a lovely family community. Wishing you luck on your move to Dubai!

Hi there! Hope the expatriation process goes well for you and the family :) Most schools in Dubai have afterschool clubs/extracurricular activities so it's best to check with DBSEH first on what they offer. Outside of schools, there are plenty of third-party afterschool clubs that your child can head to. Some days, my son attends his music classes at Melodica Institute after school then I pick him up after he's done, and other days he heads home early with a classmate who lives just a few minutes away from us us (her mom drives them back). You can also either hire a full-time nanny or hire on a part-time basis if you're not looking to commit just yet. We only hire on a part-time basis to clean the house on some odd days of the week, since both the hubby and I are working most days. Hope this helps!

If you're looking for villas for temporary rent in Dubai for parties, I recommend J5 Villas Holiday Homes in Al Barsha. They come with fully furnished living rooms, kitchens, swimming pools, bedrooms, etc.

I recommend just getting them from IKEA - it's affordable and they offer installation at home. That's how I got new curtains and blinds for my son's new bedroom in our villa. I've also noticed that there's some users promoting someone named Ali using multiple fake accounts - all they ever talk about is that guy! Way too suspicious if you ask me lol!

I'd also suggest the JustLife app (used to be JustMop), because one of my girlfriends uses it. But sometimes she experiences some messy booking or a rude employee. But other times she likes the salon services she gets or the cleaning services they provide. It really depends!! Good luck on your search :D

I'd recommend the Transguard Living app. I never had any trouble with booking or their services before :D

If you REALLY want to challenge your daughter, sign her up for afterschool activities, school competitions, or enroll her in an IB curriculum school in Dubai (the IB curriculum is very tough - and apparently universities/colleges favour applicants from IB curriculums more). But please take it easy with her, let your child explore her own interests and where can truly shine. Try to avoid pressure. There's been a recent suicide this month of a gifted student in Dubai and it was heartbreaking to hear. I don't know if it's appeared in the papers yet, but the death happened in my neighbourhood. Unfortunately not all 'gifted children' make it into adulthood with a good head on their shoulders. I hope the best for your child!

I got my curtains and blinds from IKEA, as with most of my furniture. They've got people you can talk to and consult with at the IKEA stores in Dubai. They helped me choose and set up some fabulous blinds for my Work-From-Home office :)

I recommend just going to the gym, it's cheaper and much healthier for you. VLCC is way too pricey, unless you have a coupon. It's a shame Cobone doesn't have coupons for VLCC anymore :(

I'd suggest the Al Satwa area in Dubai. It's a treasure trove of dressmaking fabric, precious stones for dresses, and other materials. Last year, I bought all the materials I needed from Satwa to make my daughter's figure skating costume. Took me ALL DAY to shop because there are so many stores, we were spoiled for choice. It's affordable there, too.

Hi Deb01! The new UAE laws say that your household needs to be earning at least AED 25k a month to sponsor a maid - if you don't want her on a tourist visa. ((https://www.expatwoman.com/dubai/home/maids-home-help/uae-families-must-earn-aed-25000-monthly-to-sponsor-domestic-help)) I would advise hiring a maid from a company like Maids.cc if you're earning below AED 25k or you'd like someone else to take care of the documents/visa process. There's a lot of maids advertising their help on the classifieds here, so if you'd like to do the hiring process independently, here are some helpful tips I followed to help me narrow down the best one for the job! The weirdest advice my mom ever gave me was never to go to sleep with wet hair!! I'm not sure why that is, but I've soon realised that it might be because you wake up looking like a hot mess hahaha.

Hi Alana, I think there are good dog walking services that you can find online - they might charge you though. Maybe ask a friendly neighbour who owns a dog as well if they can walk yours with theirs :) and this is a free option haha.

Hi! We are new in Dubai and looking for a new mattress but do not want to buy something from the stores as it is all over-priced.. Does anyone know if any of the online mattress brands sell in Dubai?
Hi vicky! I bought my mattress from IKEA, they have affordable ones usually. Have you tried visiting the shop?

Try associating a bed time song when putting your baby to sleep! Mine would start to get drowsy every time I would play it :)
