I left Dubai with my kids (migrated to Melbourne) several years ago.

I am returning to this site after 6 years (wanted to get a feel for what's happening in Dubai and hopefully be able to provide some useful advice to people contemplating on making the move to Australia, Melbourne specifically).

It looks like nothing much has changed in Dubai - same callous landlords from ****, DEWA/Etisalat and their motto - customer is always wrong, high rents, school admissions and ever increasing fees (cannot believe the rents and cost of education in Dubai - just mind boggling).

For those planning to make the move to Melbourne - Congratulations!! We couldn't be happier with our decision to quit our jobs, leave Dubai (after almost a decade and a half there) and migrate permanently to Melbourne. Please feel free to ask me for any advice regarding your move, cost of living, suburbs, schools, jobs......etc.

Sorry, hadn't logged in a long time. Sorry, have no idea about movers in Melbourne. @doublestar, you're probably already in Melbourne, wish there was a way to message privately.. I think PM's are disabled on this site?

Hey IndieOz, hope you settled down nicely in Melbourne! I'm actually moving from Melb to Singapore in August this year.. was wondering if you have any good shipping companies to recommend? :) I have a whole flat of furniture that i wish to ship over and really want a company with good service (i've read so many moving horror stories). Many thanks!

Hi IndieOz Not sure if you are still on the forum and PM seems not to be working. I would like to get in touch with you as we will be moving to the Melbourne area at the end of the year and we have heaps of questions :-) Thanks!

Hi indieOz any thoughts on Surrey hills suburb? in terms of convenience for grocery, parks and safety? catching the peak hour train from a mid-way station like surrey hills mean you stay standing for the entire way to southern cross? we are looking at this suburb due to shorter travel time to southern cross and proximity to box hill hospital. is it a good hospital for maternity and other emergencies? any comments on the nearby primary schools? (surrey hills primary school and chatham primary school) thanks
