Hi, so I’m a teacher here and have been since Sept 2017. I had a great first year and since coming back in the summer things have not felt the same. I feel like I’ve not made as many friends as I could have and struggle to find or make plans during my weekends or time off and am often alone. I don’t have the same job satisfaction as I did back in the UK and find myself wondering what I’m still doing by living here. First I thought i was having a bad few days every now and then but I’m finding that I am unhappy more often than I’m happy these days.

Any advice?

You know, Dubai life is always up and down, there was time when I thought it isn't my place and I got back home, but it took me a week to understand how many opportunists could I take in the UAE and there had been just a hard time. So I made it back to Dubai and have never regretted it. Maybe you need vacation to compare and realize what you really want

Sorry to hear you are not happy :-( I am an expat for 26 years now and I just moved to Melbourne ....my 9th move and my 5th country.......... From my experience over the years , you have to get through the first year !!!!! It is not easy but, but it will get better. Don't put to much pressure on yourself !!!! Not sure where you are right now , but I am pretty sure there will be Expat groups around to get in touch with people! And you have to give yourself a lot of time to settle and to find people !! I am happy to stay in touch ....... even if I'm not around the corner ;-) But email or chatting helps !! Because there are so many of us struggling ! All the best !
