Whether living in their home country or somewhere abroad, parents want to ensure that their children are receiving the best education possible. This is somewhat easier while still in your home country as you will have a better reference point of what are good schools in the area and know more people who you can ask for advice.
This, however, becomes a whole new ball game while you are living abroad. Suddenly you need to pick a school in a country you most likely don’t know very well and then there’s the choice of British or American curriculums.
To help make the choice a bit easier for you, here are our list of the best international schools in Kuwait:
New English School (NES)
New English school was founded in 1969 by the late chairman, Mr. Tareq S. Rajab. The school expanded rapidly and soon the premises became too small to accommodate all the students. In 1974 the school opened in a new campus specifically built for the school.
NES is a member of the European Council of International Schools (ECIS) and is accredited by British Schools in the Middle East (BSME).
The school not only stimulate pupils in the classroom but also offer extra-curricular activities and initiatives to get scholars involved in the community. They offer extra-curricular activities such as drama, music, sports, arts and crafts and technology. Community initiatives from the school include a ‘Towards Global Citizenship’ initiative, environment initiative and a school charity.

Kuwait National English School (KNES)
Kuwait National English School was founded in 1991 and is a private co-educational non-profit making organisation. The school is also a member of UNESCO and actively promotes tolerance, respect for diversity, equal rights, cooperation and protection of the earth.
KNES is an accredited member of the British Schools in the Middle East (BSME), fully accredited by CIS (Council of International Schools) and by NEASC (North England Association of Schools and Colleges) as well as a British School Overseas (BSO) recognised by the Department for Education of UK.
The school also has a gymnasium, Olympic style indoor swimming pool, basketball area, science and technology centre, theatre and numerous other facilities available for pupils.

American International School (AIS)
The American International School of Kuwait is a private, independent, co-educational day school which was founded in 1991. The primary language in the school is English but all students have Arabic as a subject.
AIS is an International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) World School that is fully authorized for the IB Diploma (IBD), Middle Years (MYP) and Primary Years (PYP) programs. They are also member of the Association for the Advancement of International Education (AAIE) and International School Services (ISS).
The school offers a wide range of extra-curricular activities with something to occupy everyone. Some of the activities include art club, ballet, chess club, cooking club, conversational Spanish club, creative writing club, Dr. Seuss club, introduction to scrapbooking, gymnastics club, hip-hop club, jewelry making and beading, photography club, table tennis club and yoga

International Academy of Kuwait (IAK)
The International Academy of Kuwait is situated in Salmiya close to the Gulf Sea. Teachers in the school are, among others, from UK, Canada and South Africa. Students are able to study in English or Arabic and French has also recently been added to their curriculum.
The school was purpose built and offer single gender classes until Year 9. IGCSE and A-level students are taught in mixed classes.

Gulf English School (GES)
Founded in 1980, the Gulf English School started out in a villa and has now expanded to modern premises in Salmiya. GES is accredited by the British council, British Schools in the Middle East (BSME) and by the Global Accreditation Center for Project Management Education Programs (GAC).
The schools facilities include Science Laboratories, music and drama studio, libraries, swimming pool, sports hall and computer suits.

Kuwait English School (KES)
This school was founded in 1978 and is divided into Preparatory and Infant Department, Primary Department, Senior High School Department, Sixth Form (Years 12 & 13) and the Green Unit. Each of these departments have a head teacher to ensure that things run smoothly and that scholars have the best learning experience possible.
The “Green Unit” mentioned above is a department for children with learning disabilities. Here they receive special attention although some of the pupils still attend classes with other pupils without learning disabilities.

British School of Kuwait (BSK)
The British School of Kuwait was originally known as The Sunshine School, a kindergarten, back in 1978 when they first opened their doors. Slowly over the years the school grew to add primary and secondary levels to the school. After the decision was made to add the secondary levels, the school relocated and renamed themselves as British School of Kuwait.
BSK is accredited by British Schools Overseas (BSO) and offer more than 20 extracurricular activities. Facilities in the school include sciene laboratories, sports facilities, creative arts facilities and computing facilities.

Canadian Bilingual School
This is still a relatively new school in Kuwait, having first opened in 2007. Rest assured though, they are part of Virtus Education who is a much older company with a history in trade and service of a wide range of products in the education sector.
The school’s curriculum is set up in such a way to continuously challenge students and to stimulate their creative thinking and problem-solving abilities.
The school has a multipurpose hall for school functions and sports activities, kindergarten play areas, library, science and computer labs and soccer fields.

The Oxford Academy of Kuwait

International British School
The International British School is part of a network of schools owned by Al Rayan Holding Company. They are registered as a ‘Cambridge International Primary School’ examination center and are a member of COBIS. The Al Rayan schools are some of the cheapest schools in Kuwait.
The school facilities include smart board technology in all the classrooms, large swimming pool, school theatre/ auditorium, indoor and outdoor sports hall, school library, science laboratory, music suite and art suite.
