Hi,

Wondering if anyone can offer any advice? I've heard very conflicting advice about the dress code in Kuwait. Some places say that women must wear tops that cover their collarbone, that sleeves must be below the elbow and that skirts/dresses/shorts must be below the knee. But I've also been told that the dress code is quite relaxed other than bikinis/swimsuits which can only be worn at beach clubs.

Can anyone confirm which is the case please as we're moving over there shortly and I need to work out what I can and can't take and what I need to buy so that I don't offend anyone?

Many thanks,

HI Newexpat27, Kuwait is quite conservative as regards what should be covered but also you will see the height of fashion there! It's all about the adaption. So yes you are right- you should definitely cover cleavage, shoulders and knees when out and about. We've a great article about it here for you http://www.expatwoman.com/kuwait/monthly__Clothing_Kuwait_6741.aspx And don't forget- Kuwait does get cold in the winter- so don't do what one of us did and throw away all your winter clothes before moving :) you'll be having a shopping trip otherwise! I don't think it is like KSA but then I wouldn't walk around with cleavage, thighs out etc I would say cover your shoulders and legs above the knees as you are supposed to in Dubai! I have a client who travels there often for work and she has never said that she has to dress ultra conservative
