my poor sis in law just gave birth to a 4.2 kilo baby and she's ended up with stitches and bad haemeroids :(. she's in australia at the moment, what can be done about them, do they just go away? She's really suffering and on her own.

Yeah I got one after baby no2, he was only 2.6kgs! I was given ultraproct. even night warm bath sitting on a towel. It took about 2 weeks for it to go. Hope hers go soon, they are a real pain. edited by sarahlouise on 06/06/2012

Hi, Brufen 600, bath salts and a real slim gel ice pack all helped me. My DD was a similar size. Thankfully my Dr had written the prescription/list before I had to ask.

sit on a towel that is rolled into a ring like a tyre (or better still if she has an inflatable rubber ring the type used by children to swim with)

I'm surprised the doctors didn't stock her up with supplies from the pharmacy before she left. I had some serious damage after delivering my DD in Oz and they gave me Proctosedyl cream for the haemorroids and Senna Col (a laxative and stool softener combined). The cream works wonders and the Senna Col makes life a little easier! Whenever she can, do as advised below and take salty baths. It was also quite refreshing to 'air the bits out'! Tell her to throw on a skirt/dress (no underwear) and lie on the couch with her feet up! Hope she feels better soon - i feel her pain!

i delieverd 1 month ago and have developed haemorrhoids now :( after medicines (which have not helped) i am taking digestive supplements so that no constipation developes. there is one called isabgol (found in indian shops) or fybogel from pharmacy. since my stomach is still numb so i dont feel any hunger or gas pain or anything.i feel for her as i am currently undergoing through same thing.google about them and you will find ways to relieve pain. keep your feet elevated while going through motions to lessen the pain :\: sounds weird but it actually helps!!

I'd rather give birth again, than ever have haemeroids again, so I feel for her. I second the sitz bath, it was a godsend. They do pass quickly after giving birth and hopefully won't return till the next one, so there is light at the end of the tunnel (so to speak) :) edited by flydiver11 on 28/05/2012

Panadol, Sitz salt bath for the stitches and some herbal hemmaroid cream should help! I was the same after mine and she was only 3.15kg, so i think its just the luck of the draw. Took about 10 days and i was totally fine. I wore lots of loose trousers that week!
