Hi, could I find out a few other things about Oman? 1. Are DVDs and VCDs allowed to be brought into Oman, as I have bought quite a lot of educational DVDs and VCDs for my daughter? 2. Also, can Skype be used in Oman to connect with family and friends abroad? If not, can Viber be used? Thanks again for your help!

Hi, It looks like something else may be coming up. Hence would appreciate if you could advise what are the residential estates which are close to TLC and Royal Flight School, besides the Wave? If it is walking distance, would even be better! Thanks very much in advance!

Hi Scottishgirl18 and bodabz, Thanks very much for your replies! They are very helpful. Unfortunately, our move may not materialize after all. Will e-mail you again if there are any new updates later. Thank you nevertheless and hope I have not wasted your time!

Hi Joymum. I live in The Wave and don't drive. I get by just fine without a car. I walk round to Costa, Al Fair etc. Yes it is hot but it is possible if you go early in the morning. The buildings provide a lot of shade. I have actually felt cold the last few months! I go shopping to Lulu during the weekends with my hubby and stock up. I make good use of the freezer! My daughter goes to TAISM, they provide a door to door bus service. Even my friends who drive use the bus service as it is very well organised. It does depend where about in The Wave you would stay though to be able to walk round to the shops/restaurants.

Hi scottishgirl, what estate did you use for renting in The Wave? Might just might be a possible move there sometime this year. What is the going price for say a 3 or 4 bed villa? Appreciate any info on agents please. Thanks!

Sorry about the delay in my reply but seems your question has been answered for you anyway. The shopping mall that's been built inI the Wave just now will have a Waitrose inside it along with 30 other shops and restaurants. I was told by the senior designer for the Wave that this should be ready by April 2014 so not too far away. Starcare hospital is the closest hospital to the Wave but was informed that Muscat Private hospital the best. There is an Irish GP in Starcare called Dr Catherine ?? Maybe someone else will rememberer full name who came highly recommended though. Hope this information helps.

Hi debliz, Thanks very much for your detailed responses, and apologies for my late reply! Sounds like there are quite a few shopping places close to the Waves, which is good! And it is a good idea to plan the shopping such that you only need to go about 10 days once, then transport wouldn't be so much of a problem. Thanks again for sharing:)

Starcare is reasonably close to the Wave, but you would need to drive (about 5 mins) for your Dr's etc. The Wave has a little supermarket, coffee shop, book shop, pizza express etc that you *could* walk to depending on where you were in the complex, but again...when it's hot, it's stinking hot and it won't be comfortable. Theres also a nice playground and beach, so you would have all those good things on your doorstep as well. For bigger supermarkets, again, you would need to drive, but you have a couple of choices really close to the Wave. Agree with most of the above but WH Smith has been closed for a few weeks now so no book shop. We've asked and apparently it's going to be another cafe of some description. The Wave has a small Al Fair (ie mini Spinneys), Costa, Eeziclean (laundry and dry cleaners), Pizza Express, Shang Thai and Shakespear & Co (but the latter is only open from 4pm whatever the website says). Building work is ongoing opposite the Marina and the current small shopping plaza and this, apparently will be part of a larger shopping area which should include a Waitrose supermarket, other shops and cafes/restaurants, offices and apartments at some time in the future. Markaz al Bajar (sp?) is just up the road from The Wave before you get to the Highway and there is a somewhat larger Al Fair (Spinneys type store) there in that mall along with a Matalan store. However, Marks & Spencer used to be in the same space as the Matalan store but has now moved to Muscat City Centre which is just another few minutes up the road and just past the Starcare Hospital. There is, however, a Lulus Hypermarket just ten minutes up the road in Al Khoud (just before the Bait al Barka roundabout) which is far cheaper than either Carrefour or Al Fair and, before you get your driving licence, the cost of a taxi there and back would probably be covered by the savings on your shopping if you only go once a week or every ten days or so - or in other words if you plan your meals and budget accordingly.

Hi arohadxb, sorry for my late reply, and thanks so much for your replies. They are very helpful indeed. Hmm.....looks like driving is a must over there (or getting a driver, which would be costly), especially when it is very hot. Thanks again for the info:)

PS: sorry, also meant to add, that quite often hiring a driver would work out to be far more reasonable $$ wise than a taxi guy. hth

Thanks Scottishgirl18! One more thing, sorry to bother you again. Are there any good paediatrician or hospitals near to The Waves? Also, are there any malls or grocery shops which are within walking distance from the Wave? Thanks in advance!

Thanks very much for your replies, arohadxb and Scottishgirl18! arohadxb: Oh dear, looks like I will have to figure out what to do about the transport option then. Guess since taxis are already expensive, drivers would cost even more? I will try to Google more about getting a driving license in Oman. Scottishgirl18: Yes, indeed am a bit apprehensive, yet very excited about the move! Thanks for reassuring me that Oman is a lovely place:). And yes, it would be nice to meet up once we settle down there, thanks for being so understanding. Its nice to know that there is already a friend whom we can meet in Oman, even before going there!

Al Hail is nice too, but again...further away still from TLC than the Wave. No, Flight and TLC don't have school transport. Some of the local schools have buses. There are a couple of private operators at Flight, but most people who don't drive/are working deliver their kids with a driver. I don't drive and have a taxi guy that I use, but that is a very expensive option.

Can I check one other thing regarding the schools? Does Royal Flight and TLC both provide school transport/bus/vans to pick-up and drop-off the students? In case driving is a hassle, at least we have an option! Thanks!

Hi everyone, thanks for your replies and sorry for my late reply! Azaiba: We are moving from India. Are you also staying at The Wave? Scottishgirl18: Glad to hear you like The Wave! If we do move there, hope to meet you! Maybe we could even arrange playdates for our girls? Arohadxb: Thanks for the info that Flight School, TLC and The Wave are pretty close by. Had tried to look for a map of Oman, and then based on the addresses of the schools, see how close they are to The Wave, but couldn't find a map which had everything I was looking for! So your answer is really helpful. Had read that Al Hail is also a nice residential area close to The Wave? Are there any other nice residential areas? Oh yes, is it easy to get a driving license in Muscat? Haven't driven for ages, that's why was thinking that if the schools are within walking distance, then we could just walk instead. Thanks in advance, and hope will get an opportunity to meet you ladies in Oman!

PS: sorry, just saw you had asked about walking distance. If located in Azaiba, you *could* walk it in the cooler months, if you were around the school. But bear in mind that when it gets warm, and then HOT, even crossing the road can become fairly unbearable. Muscat really is a town that needs a car....it's long and thin and spread pretty much right down the coast.

Azaiba as a location is pretty handy to both Flight School, and TLC and the Wave. TLC is located in Azaiba, so you wouldnt have to do the Wave drive''(it's only about 10km, but it feels like forever if you have to do it 4 times a day, every day!)

Hi everyone, we may be moving to Oman in the next 2 months, so just wanted to find out where is a good place to stay besides The Wave? Have read a few good reviews about TLC (my daughter is 4+ years old), and would really appreciate if you could advise which residential areas are close to TLC? Are they within walking distance? And Dessert Rose, really hope to meet you, thanks for being so helpful in the forum! Thanks everyone
