Is this school good? Strong points / weak points? Any comments would be appreciated.
Thank you!

My son goes to DC,this is his 2nd year ( Reception ) and we cant be happier.I wanted British education but DESS wasnt on my list coz of the British passport priority,i had to choose between DC,Park HOuse and DMES.My niece and nephews went to ASD and YES the facilities are superb, but IMHO the education isnt up to the premises, their level of reading and writing was shocking to me, they seemed way back compared to the British system.they moved back to the States and they r struggling. No offense but 3 kids gives u an idea.Back to DC,the building isnt new at all ( even though they r renewing but its slow ) but the teaching staff is probably the best. The difference between ASD and DC is HUGE but i made my decision that my son is going to learn not buy the premises. At the end of the day,u know what u want for yr kids, which education. To be fair, if u check the schools out DC will no doubt be the crappiest looking school.Good luck :)

I have 2 kids, one in primary at DESS the other at Doha College. We applied for DC for our primary school child, we looked around, they took the test and then compared it to DESS. For me DESS won me over with its typical british school look and feel. If we would have been offered the primary place I would have held out for DESS. For secondary its very academic and our child has flourished in the environment. Saying this I would not send my other child there in primary as I really didn't like their attitude or the primary school. My older child is very bright, went to a state school in the UK and they consider themselves to be elite.

My kids are 6, 9, 10 (nearly 11!) so only 1 that will be in high school in Sept. Any ideas about the primary levels?

How old are your kids PuppyLove2? Both my children have gone to DC for 5 years of their secondary education, and I have been very happy with the school. Of course it's not perfect (show me a school that is!) and certainly does not have the facilities of ASD but my children have flourished there and have received a great education.

Hi Puppylove2: coincidentally I visited this school only a couple of days ago, as we are in the middle of finding a school for our 4 year old for September 2011. Look, I keep hearing Doha College is a great school in terms of it's curriculum. Maybe it is. But upon inspection I found the actual environment the little ones are in very cramped and run-down-looking. The classrooms looked small and generally I didn't feel that children had much space to explore and run around. To me this is just as important to a child's state of mind, and development as what a teacher teaches in the classroom. Of course I had also been to the American School of Doha an hour earlier, so the difference was night and day. Maybe the US curriculum isn't as top notch as the UK's but in terms of facilities and what-not, I haven't seen anything better. Amazing really - made ME want to go back to school!!! However the fees of one and the fees of the other are also night and day. But I am still looking at all this from an outsider's perspective, so maybe hearing from those who have children at DC is more relevant. edited by mrvm on 19/01/2011 edited by mrvm on 19/01/2011 edited by mrvm on 19/01/2011
