If your dog is small - you may be able to take him on board. Alternately, most airlines allow the dog to fly as checked luggage for a nominal fee. There is some paperwork you have to fill out on this end. I know if you search the forum for pet relocators you'll get contact info for someone who can help you out with that paperwork. Or, if your husband comes ahead of you, he can do the paper work himself. The one thing to look into are the requirements for going back -- because as I understand you need to do quarantine for dogs going back to the UK or follow a specific set of guidelines. I feel completely safe going around by myself. Safer than in the US. I've lived here 10 years. Had 2 creepy experiences 9 years ago, but nothing serious. I dress respectfully. I have never worn local dress or covered my hair except during a mosque tour. Generally the rule of thumb is cover everything from shoulders to knees and you're good. Something to keep in mind is that it is very expensive here. While hired help and services are generally inexpensive, groceries eating out, alcohol, and housing are very expensive. There are lots of people her from the UK who may be able to help you compare expenses.

Hello, thank you so much for the reply especially the advice about getting my dog over, I will look into that. My husband will be going over around 1st September and I plan to go back and forth for a while. It's all becoming quite real now and I have to say I'm getting a little nervous! Fingers crossed it goes ok, time will tel.... Can I ask if you feel safe getting around by yourself? Dress wise do you just adhere and be respectful or do you wear local dress? Thanks- I hope my questions don't sound crazy! X

We moved out here in Aug 2014 and on the whole we love it. Of course like everywhere it takes time to settle and we have ' Doha days' but we miss very little about the UK. We brought our dog with us from the UK. You can organize it yourself but we used James Cargo from Manchester. I would recommend that you start the process early to avoid last minute delays. Our dog has adapted well, in the cooler months he goes to the beach and camping in the desert with us but it's harder when it's 45deg! One thing you'll need to consider is pet friendly accommodation and dog care if you're out all day as it can be hard to come by.

Hi, we are from the UK and my husband has just been offered a job in Qatar, we are seriously considering giving it a try as living the expat life is something we have always wanted to do. Our daughter has just left school and will be going on a gap year before starting university in Scotland in 2017 so we are sorted there for now. We have a small dog who I would hate to leave behind but I don't know how we could get him over without too much stress for him? Any help, advice or thoughts to consider would be greatly appreciated as I don't know where to start and we only have a few days to decide! Excited but apprehensive! I'd love to hear your own stories of settling there. Thanks in advance! X
