Hello mums
2 years ago we relocated to Bahrain from the UK. My husband may need to move again this year to Doha. I am quite anxious about schools particularly that I cannot seem to find any form of quality assessment reviews on any of the schools on-line. I was hoping to use this as an initial guide. When we moved to Bahrain we were lucky enough to secure places at our first choice school (British School of Bahrain) for our 3 children now 6, 9 & 12. We are looking for an international and culturally diverse environment (must be British Curriculum Schools) that not just emphasises on academic achievement but also focuses on softer areas such creativity, innovation, self-confidence etc. Can any one point me to the right direction? Thank you!

As most have said -- it's mostly up to where they will get in... But if you have the luxury of getting in multiple places --- i wonder if your school in Bahrain would be able to suggest which school is most like where they currently attend. I would think that a lot of the International Gulf schools are familiar with each other, especially since the communities move back and forth so much. Might be worth asking the principal/ counselor. Never thought of it actually … I might as well ask! Thank you!

Thanks bsamara … where we live is pretty much dependant on the school. I've read about the Outstanding Schools Programme but am still unsure what it means in reality for it's members/pupils. Outstanding schools briefly are schools which are well known for their great academic records/achievements in their home country and with an agreement form the Ministry of Education were allowed to open up in Qatar to provided that same quality education too the Qataris and Expats. Such schools are usually granted already built school plots and spaces to open and operate. Other private school need to purchase their own land and build their own buildings. Currently I think there are around 6 or 7 such schools I see … now it makes sense lol. Appreciate the explanation bsamara!

Your choices may depend mainly on which schools have open slots and where you plan to live. The next academic year will see the opening of 2 schools in the outstanding schools program following British Curriculum King's College Doha and Royal Grammar School Guilford in Qatar. In addition there are the Sherbourne Qatar and International School of London. Gems Wellington Qatar is also a good choice. Thanks bsamara … where we live is pretty much dependant on the school. Hi We did this move but Doha to Bahrain 2 yrs ago and now moving to Dubai and wishing we were staying in Bahrain or going back to Doha. Anyway schools it will definitely be a case of where you can secure places. School I would recomend are Doha DESS, and Doha College. There are schools like Park house , Doha British school and sherbourne but as I said it will be where you can get a place . Good luck and hope it all goes well . We have lots of great memories of Doha ?? Thank you alee! funny enough I had DESS and DC on my list too but it seems like it is everybody's favourite lol. Good luck to you too!
