We are tossing up between going to a Greek Island and Cyprus for a 2 week break before summer. I am more interested in Cyprus and it is just the one connection in Bahrain and you're there, where as for Greece there's taxis and hydrofoil/s involved. We have the 2 littlies and like to keep things simple.

I have had a look at the Cyprus tourist websites and I have serious infomation over load! I have no idea where we should go for 'our kind of holiday'. Not far from the airport would be great.

We prefer to stay in self catering accom, and avoid big hotels and resorts. We need a nice beach in walking distance and a few casual places to eat out. I am thinking small, family run hotel. We will go out of peak time so perhaps the towns that do get over run at the height of summer will be ok for us????

So many questions, I just need to settle on somewhere and then I'll start to get excited!

TIA

We have a vlla in Pissouri (traditional cypriot villae). I took the kids (aged 5 and twins of 3) last Feb half term, we had a great time. Friends have also gone wih kids and thoroughly enjoyed it. It is on a development with pool, clubhouse/restaurant/bar tennis courts and right on the edge of the pine forest. Friends have also stayed with kids and had a great time too http://www.ownersdirect.co.uk/cyprus/cy2350.htm http://www.holidaylettings.co.uk/photodisplay.aspx?home_id=108814

We stayed in Limassol a back in 2005/6 and then again a couple of summers ago. We stayed in self catering apartments set around a central pool, which was lovely and it was just far enough from the main drag in Limassol that it wasn't noisy/surrounded by clubs. From there we were a shortish drive from Pissouri which is gorgeous, there is a beautiful bay and a fantastic restaurant at the top of the village called the Bunch of Grapes. Fassouri is also close to Limassol and has a great water park where it's easy to spend the whole day. Don't bother with the zoo in Limassol as it makes Doha Zoo look positively advanced! But our kids always loved Cyprus and the Cypriots are very family friendly. We did find Cyprus had become a little expensive when we went back last time, they now have the euro and it seemed to have lost a bit of it's charm for us but we have very fond memories of holidays there.

Ive had a few holidays there, especially when my girls were small. Protaras is a lovely location for families. I am also arranging to go there in August to meet my DD and her kids for 2 weeks, so will be looking for a family action packed trip for a 3, 5 and 7 year old. Cyprus has always been quite expensive as holidays goes, just dont seem to get good value for money, probably worse now it has the euro. I suppose there are lots of changes since the last time I was there, hope you find the ideal location.

Well, my info may be a little out of date but we took our 3 little ones to Cyprus about 10 or 11 years ago (they're now 16 and 18yrs old). Stayed in a villa very close to Coral Bay just outside of Paphos. A ways away from the airport but great once we got there. I know it's much more developed these days.... but at the time it was fantastic for little ones. Most of the tourist attractions we wanted to see were outside so kids could just run around, climb about, etc. Though we were staying in a self-catering villa, when we went out for dinners ALL the restaurants were very child friendly. I would highly recommend Cyprus for a holiday with a young family. We did day trips to Limassol, etc. Here's one website with some basic info but I'm sure there are many under vacation rentals, or similar, there. http://www.coralbaycyprus.net/
