Is SGD225 enough to have a good standard of living for a family

We currently live in Dubai and wondering whether we could have a similar standard of life in Singapore with the same salary, which is what is on offer. Because standard of living is subjective, it's really difficult to work out whether SGD225 after tax is sufficient.... In Dubai we have a 3 bed villa with maids room, have a helper, two children (one just started school, the other will start school), two cars, and don't have to watch our money when it comes to eating out, doing activities, shopping, travelling etc. I would really appreciate any thoughts... I am more than happy to downsize to a smaller condo, go without a car etc if this equates to the equivalent standard of living in Singapore as such...but is this salary sufficient to live a fairly good life without living month-to-month and being too restricted on what we do, and maybe save a bit? We also have a dog - are dogs allowed in condos, and can they travel in taxis? What do people with children do if they don't have a car and take taxis - go without car seats? Thanks! edited by ChilliChai on 29/01/2015

SGD 225 is not sufficient if you want to have a good standard of living in Singapore. Infact it is too less. You can check this site to calculate the cost of living in SIngapore - https://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living/country_result.jsp?country=Singapore

Wow, SGD 225 per month is definitely not enough... It costs about SGD500 for a small apartment room, probably another SGD 500 just on food and basic necessities. This is not inclusive of any outings or schooling for your kids... A month to month basic living probably requires you at least 3000SGD for basic survival. Dogs are allowed in condos, but depending on the breed as well.

I'm sorry to say this but that is not enough, for sure! $225 may be enough for 1/3 of rent for a SINGLE person in public housing areas, not condo. If you also consider food, education, transport (public, not taxi), utitlities etc., it will cost at least 10+ times of $225, with the condition that you significantly lower your standard of living (and I mean significant), and with no excess to save.
