Thanks ladies you are all amazing! You have given me some great suggestions and I am going to use these as a basis to do some more research. Seriously, I was sat in front of my computer feeling a little overwhelmed as I didn't really know where to start! Now I'm super excited about my holiday again. Have a great day and Thanks a million!

From Bali, I would highly recommend going to the Gili islands (we stayed on Trawangen), they are absolutely fantastic, still very rustic...no motorized transport, just horse and carts & bicycles! Honestly, if i'd known how lovely they were earlier, I would have shifted over there earlier in my 2 week holiday!

We traveled through Java (Jakarta until JogJakarta) before heading to Bali for a couple of days relaxation. Great trip, easy to get around with train, backpack and a lonely planet. Flight back from Bali to Jakarta to save some time. You get to compare the complete different atmosphere from Java compared to Bali, loved it! I agree with this. Did Java, flew into Jakarta, then train on to Yogyakarta (very interesting town, and great sites of Borobudur and Prambanan nearby), then a train-bus combo up to Mount Bromo, and eventually back down to the east coast, where we caught a ferry over to Bali. At the end flew back from Bali to Jakarta. Love Java, and definitely think it is well worth tacking it on to your trip. My personal train experience was mixed, though. It was comfortable enough, but Java is a huge island so they are long trips. That's not really an issue, but all of my trains arrived hours late, and one just stopped/broke down for about 4-5 hours somewhere between Jakarta and Yogyakarta with nary an explanation. So that got a bit frustrating (even the ferry crossing, which should have taken only 45 minutes took more like 3 hours due to mystery delays). Could have been a bit of back luck that I had, though. I just went with guesthouses for accommodation, shopping around for them upon arrival, and I was quite happy with it. Clean and interesting, no complaints. <em>edited by laurelm on 28/08/2013</em>

Check Kota Kinabalu in Malaysia, Borneo. It's 2-3hr flight from KL. They have several orang-utan rehabilitation centres, the nearest one would be at Shangri-La in KK, there is also mount Kinabalu which you can attempt climbing, good markets. You could also go see the Komodo dragons in Indonesia.. I've heard it's an amazing experience to go there.

Thanks ladies for the suggestions. Much appreciated. We combined Malaysia with Singapore last year (Georgetown, Langkawi and KL) but looking at your itinerary assisi it seems that Malaysia has a lot more to offer than we realised! Jojojo- your trip sounds heavenly. You have planted the seed and I have been researching Jogyakarta all this morning! It sounds perfect. What was the accommodation there like and what did you see? I'm really up for squeezing in a train journey if its worth it?We tried to do the sleeper train through malaysia but they were fully booked when we went. Flying is so cheap and quick but what are your thoughts? Sorry a million and one questions. I know you are probably really busy but any gems you can share would be very much appreciated!!

We drove from Singapore up the east coast of Malaysia last year, and spent a few nights at a gorgeous island resort called Batu Batu ... Also have the Bintan resorts a ferry ride from Sing ...

Hi Ladies I have two questions that I hope you can help me with :-) DH and myself are planning a xmas trip to Bali and Singapore. We have been to Singapore before and loved it- but is there another country worth seeing instead in combination with Bali? Secondly, any must sees for Bali? Hotels, restaurants, attractions? We are the nature loving, motorbike riding sort so like to get out and about and explore things as opposed to go clubbing or sit on the beach. We don't have children so a family friendly venue is not a priority for us. We are also too tight for all out unabashed luxury !!! Any suggestions you may have would be very much appreciated! Thanks a million x
