Make sure your dog is up to date with all recommended vaccinations required for Qatar.

Hi, We move in on Sunday.....have been staying at the Crown Plaza and before that at the Sharq Village Spa.....so over living out of a suitcase. We have had huge problems finding a place but have ended up in the Y Village in a lovely villa with a garden. Where are you living? My phone number is 66278599. Give me a call for a cuppa sometime.

Hi, We arrived from the UK 3 days ago. I bought a lot of light long loose fitting clothing in the UK before leaving. You can wear what you like but you need to cover your shoulders and knees. It's hot and it's going to get hotter, keep that in mind when choosing the material of your clothing. I bought long flowing dresses of many colours and 3/4 length pants, lots of dressy sandals. It's fairly casual here as the weather dictates that. Wear what you want but respect their cultural dress restrictions. The shops here are amazing so you have a great choice. I bought pure cotton and silk, because in hot weather synthetic materials sweat and are unpleasant. You will love it here, it's very modern but very relaxed. You will love the shopping. It's a very exciting place to live. Ultra modern but relaxed. Hope that helps. Enjoy your stay. :sun:

Hi Ladies, We will have to meet up when I get settled. Hubby loves laying around the pool and swimming....me I'm slathered in factor 50 and laying under an umbrella. We both got our international driving license before leaving the UK. I think I will have a driver because I don't have the best road sense lol We are going for a look round today then back to the pool/beach. Thank you for your replies. Have a great day:flower:

We landed on Thursday morning and are staying at the Sharq Village Spa for 6 days whilst we look for a villa. The weather is sooooooo beautiful. A lot different than what we left behind in North Yorkshire. We went to the old part of Southern Doha to go to a supermarket. I can honestly say I will never drive in this town....madness. Hope to meet some of you ladies in the near future. Debs.

Hi Emma, My partner and I brought forward our wedding. I have read that they don't really approve of unmarried people living together. Then as part of our visa application we had to prove the marraige certificate was authentic...lol and it had to be sent to a government body in UK for authorization. As for the car allowance I don't know. My hubby is getting a company car. I hope some of the ladies in here can help you. Just so you know the whole visa thing is a real rigmarole so don't think it's just you;) Hope your move goes smoothly. Debs

HI w are also relocating to Qatar so home school and doggie issues, do you recommend anything close to live dog friendly in that area and I think doha college is close anything else british system to recommend in that area, is it easy to bring the dog over and can this be done with visit visa or we need residence first to import the dog ? appreciate any advice thank you Hi Brownie, From what I have read the compounds seem dog friendly. We are arriving on the 21st of this month and are going to look in the West Bay area first as it has lots of parks and is on the beach. A lot of the compound villas in West Bay have access to a private beach. There is not a whole lot of information about where you can walk your dog, can't get anything from this site. As for bringing your dog you will need to arrange a doggie passport from your vet. If you go through a company like Petair as we did they will walk you through it all step by step. It takes about 3 weeks. Yes you will need resident visa before you can take your dog. My dog is only small and I have bought a doggie stroller much to the horror of my husband. That way if I can't ever walk him where I want to I will just pop him in the stroller. The whole moving thing is a real rigmarole. Please don't hesitate to ask me for anything you might want to know. Am only to happy to help. Good luck Debs

Hi, We have been here just over a year, we love it, esp the heat. When people come here they come with different expectations and have different needs. I will give you our example on what we did, and how we done it. Then maybe you can ask more specific questions, and don't hesitate to ask anything. We rented in York, but still have a place in Scotland, so we put our furniture in storage, initially for a year to see how we liked it here. We were living in a serviced apartment for the first two months, organised through husbands job. This was in Westbay, which was great as we were right next to City Center Mall, and close proximity to the Corniche. We then moved to an apartment at the Pearl, where we still live. It's fully furnished, pool, jacuzzi and gym. We are in walking distance of cafes, restaurants and shops. We can walk round the Pearl and nearby Medina Centrale. And we also take a taxi, ( very reasonable prices) to Westbay, Corniche, Souq, and various malls in Doha. Yes you can get milk, hubby is a tea drinker also! He is a Yorkshire lad too! He does miss pork pies, but we have been able to get mushy peas in Spinneys, a great supermarket to find tastes of home. We don't have children, or a dog, we have 2 cats, who we adopted here, so can't help you with how to get the dogs here, but I'm sure someone on here will be able to help. I know I haven't covered everything, so just ask, no matter how silly you think the question is. We have all been in the same boat, and it can be quite intimidating moving to a new country. Come with an open mind, read all the articles on here, they can help. Good luck with the move ? Thank you very much for your reply. Hubby and I are both well traveled and are really looking forward to embracing our new culture. We are looking at villas to rent at the moment. The company is covering all costs. I have looked at the Pearl and West Bay. I hate high rise living and with our little pooch, it would not suit. We are looking at villas with a little courtyard. I love the look of the Pearl, reminds me of Australia but from what I can see it looks short on villas. We will spend the first couple of nights there in a hotel and then move to the company villa before finding our own home. I have Google horse riding facilities, volunteering groups, cooking classes, shops, food....the list goes on lol. We have two 21 year old children between us. My son is in Australia and my hubbies daughter will stay in England. It's freezing here in North Yorkshire.....I never did get used to this cold. I see that there's a Marks and Spencers in Doha......yayyyyyy lol and I saw Australian eggs in one supermarket....yayyyyyy. We are not bringing any furniture with us just kitchen and soft furnishings and things like that. It looks like we will be in Qatar for many years and from there we will be going to live in Perth Australia so we will buy new from there. Thank you once again. Have a lovely day. Debs and Carter.
