Thank you. I am defo not going to let this go. I feel I've been taken for a total ride. I take it must be the manager of the shop that is making this decision since it is a large international chain!! I will be going back to the shop tomorrow and contacting consumer rights. Just terrible!!! leaves such a bad taste in your mouth!!!

Oh and the other thing was at my children's school you can only use the school bus from Year 1, FS1 & FS2 not allowed on so that was another problem. A full time driver was the only solution which was too much money....

If only there were after school clubs for older children. Back in the UK my LO's nursery had an afterschool club for primary school kids. They would be picked up from school and brought there until 6pm if need be.

I totally know what you are saying. I was offered a great full time job and really wanted to take it but had to turn it down due to this problem. I have 2 young children finishing at 2 different times at school. It would have meant having to take on a full time driver as well as a full time maid. We have a maid at the moment but as much as she is lovely I wasn't happy at having to leave my children for long periods every day with her on their own. I eventually had to turn the job down. I hope you find a solution and if you do let me know!!xx

Thanks will not bother going there then. I was tempted as they have an offer on for UAE residents at the moment. Have now booked a brunch instead, sounds like a far better option!!!:)

Well done for your thread. I have just joined Fitness First and got all my measurments done and need to lose 2k to get to my ideal weight but also lose some fat and gain muscle. I am going to start eating more snacks too rather than just 3 meals a day and I think I need to cut my carbs and increase my protein. Keep us updated!!x

Thanks very much that is really useful. I am thinking about moving at the end of the year as our neighbour has a cockerel which is giving me sleepless nights but I'm just wondering of all the costs involved with removal firms, agency fees etc!!!

Hi ladies, I'm going over to Abu Dhabi next weekend for a 2 night break and I am tempted to go to Ferrari world. Do you think there is enough to do for a 3 year old and 5 year old or is it more for older children? thanks!x

Hi Ladies, I'm jumping over from the Dubai board and wonder if you could help me. We have booked a 2 night break at the Yas Viceroy hotel next weekend as we have never been to Abu Dhabi. I was just wondering if you could recommend what we could do with our 2 young children (age 5 & 3). Where would be the best places to visit taking into account the heat?. Thanks for your help xx

Hi ladies, Just wondering if you have spotted any good deals for a 1 or 2 night break not too far from Dubai for 2 adults plus 2 children? Was looking at the Cove Rotana in Ras al Khaimah but they only have villas for my numbers which are pricey!. The Babs al Sham deal on Groupon seems to only cater for 2 adults plus 1 child. Any ideas? I need inspiration and love a good deal!!!x

He is 6ft 3 but for some reason his head was hitting the top in the passenger seat lol! Maybe some adjustments needed done to the seat if your husband is taller! To be honest, he had his heart set on an Armada, I would have been happy with either but he is so excited as it's the car he really wanted.

Hi ladies, Thanks for all your help. We went to the garage last night and have reserved an Armada. I think it's the right decision, poor DH is quite tall and his head was almost touching the roof in the Pathfinder, he didn't look right in it! I'm looking forward to getting it now and with the help of the front, rear sensors and the camera I'm sure I will get the hang of the parking, thanks!!x

Thank you girls. I'm still really swaying but just thinking I might feel more comfortable in the Pathfinder for parking. I'm still not a confident driver here in Dubai yet so maybe it's more suited for me. What to do,what to do!!!!

Hi, that was one of the reasons we decided to get a full time live in maid as we realised that my husband and I would never be able to go out together and I wanted to enjoy Dubai too!. We now have a maid who is a lovely girl that we trust. We do get to go out but tend to put our children down ourselves at night before we got out so she is only looking after them while they are sleeping. It works really well and we are all really happy here!!x

Thanks, that's good advice. The 3rd row will just be for when visitors are over. I do really like the Armada I suppose it would be a matter of getting used to the size. The Pathfinder doesn't have parking sensors even in the top of the range which is annoying!!! As we are thinking of buying a new car, do the Armada and Pathfinders have good resale value?

Hi Ladies, Just about to buy a car and struggling to make our minds up between the Nissan Armada and Nissan Pathfinder. DH loves the Armada, I feel it's a bit too big especially for parking etc. We have 2 little ones so we want great a/c in the back and safety is the most important factor. I feel the Pathfinder might be a bit easier for me to drive as it's not too big. Any thoughts from Armada/Pathfinder users? so 50/50 here!! Also do you think it's best to buy new or a few years old? thanks!x

Just out of interest, how much does it roughly cost to move from one area in Dubai to another (for example a short distance like Jumeirah 2 to Umm Sequim 2). Our lease is up at the end of the year but I'm just wondering what the costs would be in moving with removals plus then another agency fee? thanks....

Thanks ladies, still looking at it just now but finding it very expensive! I had my heart set on a water villa, is it really worth paying the extra money for or is a beach villa just as nice??? We are only looking at around 3 nights in December but it's looking like it's costing just as much as if we were booking a week from the UK!!! Wish I could see some special offers but there are none in December!!!

I've just got rid of some cradle cap in my 3year old's hair too. I normally put vaseline to soften the flakes for 30 mins before I remove flakes with a bone comb and then wash as normal x

To be honest there are quite a few in my area and what makes it worse is that they call to each other. I took a walk around another area yesterday about 10 minutes walk from my house and heard about another 3!!! I don't really want to move but just can't face being wakened all the time and sleeping with ear plugs every night is not comfortable!! I would love just a nice quiet house and a good night's sleep! I will have a look at that comound suggested in Umm Suqeim 2 thanks! I think my next house I will need to sit outside it from 4am onwards to hear if they are any before signing the lease lol!!

Thanks ladies for all your replies. I think I have 2 options, either to send it home with my mum (who is visiting me) to the UK and get my friend to countersign and send it off from there, or ask a friend here who is a teacher but has only known me for 6 months. I was wondering if I would need it signed as it's a renewal but it says it's not necessary if there is not much difference in the passport photo, but the previous photo she was a 3 month old baby and now 5 year old! I did try emailing the British embassy last week but no reply....even phoning there is a message that you must phone London but shut today.....Nothing is ever easy!!!x

Hi ladies, I wonder if anyone can help me. My daughters passport runs out in September and we are looking to travel home to the UK in July. We wanted to renew through the Dusseldorf office but I don't know what to do regarding countersigning the photos because you need someone who has known you for 2 years to sign it for you and we have only been here 5 months. I am now worried as I was thinking I could take her back to the UK and have it done there on the day but I have now read you need 3 months left on your passport to go in and out of the UAE even if you are resident. Can anyone advise what I should do??? thanks....

Thanks for all your replies. It would be good if there was job share, it's just so tricky with the school runs and childcare, especially if your 2 children finish at different times! and no grandparents to help out with pick up's!

Thanks ladies, you are making it sound much better than I thought. I'm just contemplating going back to work but worried about staying here in the summer with the little ones. It would be a long time to be away from DH too, the schools have 10 weeks off!!! Like the idea of the cheap weekends at the resorts, will be the ideal time to try them!

Hi Amleite, Thanks for your reply. Re your private driver, is it someone you hire through a chauffeur company? I just don't know whether to do a one off pick up from school with a company or a fulltime driver as I don't know if there is much in it cost wise!. It seems so difficult for working mum's!!!

Thanks Jules, that is really helpful, that is leaving me a lot to think about now! At least we can discuss our options now with proper figures and knowing what other working mum's do. Some friends were suggesting a taxi everyday for my nanny but I couldn't relax thinking they may not turn up for the school runs! Let me know how your new arrangment is working !x

Hi ladies, Thanks for your reply. I thought that was the case that part time help didn't seem to be allowed. Do you have any idea how much a full time driver would cost and would they live out as I don't have room for another live in helper? It's so difficult as back home you had nurseries that would take the children until 6pm, or pick them up from school and take them back to nursery. I just don't really know what to do but the only solution seems to be a full time driver? thanks x
