Japan is known for more than just Sushi. It is a delectable place to explore for anyone who wants to send their taste buds on an adventure.

Japan has a distinct cuisine and something to suit even the fussiest of eaters. One thing about Japan that you notice as soon as you arrive is the cleanliness. You only need to go into any public toilet to see this! According to the WHO Japanese woman boast the highest life expectancy in the world, must be something in the diet!

So be brave and try something out of your comfort zone.

Gyoza

These are a tasty treat. They are small dumplings that are usually fried and steamed. They are stuffed with minced vegetables or meat and wrapped in a delicate and light wheat flour pastry.  They are incredibly tasty dipped in soy sauce. They are great as an appetiser or snack.

Lotus Flower Root

This is a vegetable that is rather like a potato but lighter in taste. When it is sliced it has little holes throughout its centre creating the look of a flower.  It is used in various ways and makes any dish aesthetically pleasing.

Udon Noodles

These are made from wheat flour and are the really thick noodles. You can get them as a main dish, side dish or it soups with various flavours

Teriyaki McBurger.

The title explains it all. It’s a McDonald’s burger flavoured with a teriyaki sauce. And it’s the only place in the world you can get one. It’s a try simply because you can. It’s a great dish for someone who is less adventurous with trying new foods.

Mochi

This is a Japanese dessert you will be able to find all over the country. It is very sweet and made from rice. It comes with all sorts of flavours and fillings. Be warned it has a very distinct texture that can leave you chewing for a while but it is beautifully sweet.

Tempura

Tempura is a light batter covering a filling and very crispy. You might have heard of tempura prawns but in Japan they tempura everything, vegetables, prawns, meat and array of sea food.

Onigiri (Rice Balls)

This is a cold snack of rice with various fillings and wrapped in seaweed. You will find it in convince stores, trains stations and most restaurants. It is favourite amongst locals. It can be stuffed with picked vegetables, seafood or meat. Really filling!

This goes without saying. Japan is the home of green tea and there is a wide selection of green teas to try. You will find green tea all over Japan. It is ingrained in daily life here, almost as essential as oxygen. The most premium one you can try is Gyokuro. Do not worry if you are not a fan of hot drinks there is more than one way you can enjoy the rich flavour of green tea. Japan has a wide variety of drinks and deserts flavoured with matcha (Green tea powder). 

Yakiniku

This translates as grilled meat. There are many of these types of restaurants in Japan. Your table has a small hole in the middle with a coal BBQ lowered in the centre. You order the raw meat you would like to eat from the menu. They have a wide selection from beef fillet to cows tongue and then you just cook it at your table. A fun dining experience to share with friends and family.
