Know Your Body Type for the Perfect Bikini

We are taking advantage of pools, beach clubs and the beach to top up our tans and get into those bikinis. Did you know that there are different bikini types because some flatter more than others. Your body shape has a lot to do with the kind of bikini you should be wearing and we have the right advice right here.

Bikini BodyBefore you cringe at the thought of getting into a bikini take a few words of advice that my dermatologist imparted on me today. Love yourself, just as you are. If anyone decides to make you feel bad about what you look like, that’s their problem. When you love yourself you radiate magnetism. So whether you’re a size six or twenty six, if an all over tan is what you want, an all over tan is what you wholeheartedly deserve.

Still not convinced?? Then you may need a little help to bring out that inner goddess. We have advice for you all; apple, pear or hourglass.

One of the most important things to know is your shape. When you know what kind of figure you have you will learn how to achieve balance. A balanced shape is one of the most alluring things to the human eye. You’re probably thinking, “What about my (insert bit that you feel insecure about)?” So long as you achieve that balance, you will look fab in your bikini this summer.

Bikinis for your body type

Hourglass figure – Ladies with an hourglass figure have a similarly proportioned bust to hip ratio. These ladies tend to have a small waist. Celebs with this figure include the fabulous Dita Von Teese, Scarlett Johansson and the iconic Marilyn Monroe. This figure wears any bathing suit well. Curvier ladies with a larger bust should opt for a hater neck top. A string bikini is great for a smaller chested hourglass. One word of warning hourglass, do not do the mix and match bikini thing (where you wear a different coloured or patterned bikini top and bottom) as this may detract from the balance that we are trying to achieve.

Pear shaped figure – Ladies with this figure tend to have a smaller bust to hip ratio. You carry most of your weight on your hips, thighs and bottom. Luckily pears are generally blessed with naturally flatter abs than most and the strapless bandeau bikini top was made for them. Some famous pears include Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Lopez. Look for bikinis that are sold separately as you may not be the same size on top as you are on the bottom, than mix and match different bikini tops and bottoms. Choose a coloured or patterned top and match it with a solid dark bottom. This will balance your body out and give you that balance that you seek.

Apple shaped figure – Ladies, this is the opposite of the pear shape. Here your bust tends to be larger than the hip area. Apples can wear the tiny string bikini, and should take advantage of this fact. Britney Spears and Elizabeth Hurley are celebrities with apple shaped figures. The apple wants to buy separate bikini tops and bottoms for the same reasons as the pears. However, apples should wear loud bottoms and solid coloured tops. When picking your bikini top choose an underwire or halter shape with thick straps.

Boyish figure – Celebrities with boyish figure include Cameron Diaz, Keira Knightley and Nicole Kidman. Boyish characteristics include broad shoulders with proportional hips and bust and a lack of a defined waist. Ladies with this body type like to add more curves to their frame and this can be done by wearing bikinis with ruffles, bows and ties that create depth and volume. Do not shy away from florals, details, colours and patterns. Monokinis are your friend and will look great on this body shape as it adds femininity to an athletic figure.
