JHL, I hope you are able to get more feedback from someone who lives there soon. Just wanted to let you know that DH drives from Doha to Mesaieed daily as we decided not to live there (we were offered the housing there two years after we came here so were still able to make that choice) because we wanted to be close to the children's school. I dont think there is any smell from what I can remember (been there twice).

Hi JHL, I don't like to put a dampener on your plans, We went out to Sealine for a desert safari in February. Sealine is the starting off point for desert safaris and dunebashing, dune buggy sports that are very popular here. It was extremely busy - hundreds of 4WD's. We had these ideas of a 'deserted' trip, with not a thing in sight, and the dune buggies in the desert went all night long. However, that would just be for the winter months and maybe we went on a really busy weekend. The other thing is that our tour guide said that one section of the road out to Sealine is officially the most dangerous road in Qatar, because it is long and straight, so dangerous because of the speeds that people drive at. I didn't notice any smell in the air.

Many thanks ladies. Pollution is one of my worries , as we have three young daughters. But I've told that "apparently" we would be living near the Sealine resort rather than in the city.
So, is the air quality very bad? Does it smell?
Any more info about the school greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Personally, and this is just my personal opinion because I am a bit sensitive about these things, I wouldnt live there because of the heavy industry and associated risks of pollution.

Could you not live in Doha and commute? Not that it's got amazing air quality, but at least you're away from the heavy industry.

I only visit Messaieed on business - it's a small town and like much of Qatar, seemingly under constant construction (mostly road). It has a large industrial city making various petroleum derived products, a shipyard, steel plant, chemical factory etc.

It isn't far from Doha and the driving isn't too bad outside of peak commute times. There are no large supermarkets, smaller groceries and restaurants that cater mostly to the Asian expat population and the Qataris.

I don't know anything about the school itself, I'd suggest your hubby ask for a contact already in place who has children at the school to get some direct info.

You're close to Sealine Beach & Resort which is extremely popular with expats and Qataris alike so it can be very busy.

Hi! My husband and I are considering a move to Mesaieed. The very little information I have found out there is fairly old (2009). Would anyone living there be happy to share comments? Is there enough to do to keep the children busy? Are there extra curricular activities? What is the school like?
Many thanks
