Hiya! Bottons and Quenda. The restuarant which I had in mind is Madeleines Bistro inside the Dubai mall in the first floor, top of escalators next to Jimmy Choos :-) Excellent view
The bad news is that I just went past there to check and they have closed it off (balcony) with hoardings whilst they do some renovations for the summer !
Pity. There are a few more here in Mall.... but no great food. I think the TGI Fridays and The Orchestra all have balconys and views but prices and food are average-ish.
Best of luck!

Dubai Mall fountains?
Our favorite is the Thai restaurant in Souk Bahar but you need to book in advance and specify that you want a balcony table. Great view all night. It is also licenced. For an informal lunch the souk bahar has Baker and Spice, and there is Cafe More, Carluccios etc all over on the mall side. The best unlicensed mall restaurant which has a first floor external balcony is easily accessible from inside the mall and we always get a table easily. Gosh the name of it escapes me now! Ill write back when I remember but they could easily turn up for table as long as its not a weekend evening.

Hilsbils, have you remembered the name of this restaurant in the mall yet?
I need to go and have a look around and book somewhere for 10 of us for next weekend.
Thanks.

Could it be Joe's Cafe or Dean & Deluca Cafe? I haven't tried them but I've checked the store locator on the website and both have a 1st floor balcony right infront of the fountains.

Alternatively, Hallab on the 2nd floor has a large balcony and excellent Lebanese food. Here's a picture of the view from the balcony. link

Just make sure to book in advance if you're going on a weekend as it gets really busy

Second this - love Karma Kafe! The popcorn shrimp is amazing, and also the sushi. Really fab. I've taken four sets of visitors there now (ranging from young to old) and everyone enjoys it.

We had dinner at Rivington Grill at Souk al Bahar, inside, then moved out to the terrace for dessert and coffee and to watch the fountain show. Was a lovely evening and the food was good.

Mango Tree has perfect views which makes up for the very average & boring food you're going to be eating there......if you're a fan of Thai food, don't go!

Do you mean the cabanas surrounding the pool at the hotel?

Thiptara (sp?) Thai Restaurant in the Old Palace Hotel - I highly recommend the balcony corner table, food was fantastic. Even the MIL was impressed when we took her there.

For steak there is Asado at the Palace although whether they have an outside area in summer you'll have to ask. When they do they have a lovely view of the burj and fountains, although not a close up view, but personally I love the tranquil setting out of the hustle and bustle.

In the souk there is an Italian Urbano that has very close views. Lastly I think Bice, the seafood place upstairs has a fountain view as well.
