where is the one in satwa? near the flagpole?

Hello dear LB.
The cannon is fired to mark Iftar time - there are apparently 6 in Dubai and 12 in Sharjah
There is always one outside Safa Park (I think Gate 4 if you would like to go and watch) - but this year there appears to be one right outside my window Big Grin

no cannon so far this year .... well i haven't noticed in when running

You run at iftar time?

There is definitely one at Safa Park - seen it twice (once got a bit of a fright) - I did notice that they are very quick on wheeling-away the cannon after it gets fired so you need to be fast......or you'll miss it :-)

Nice to know that the cannons are still being fired. I sort of assumed that they stopped that practice in Dubai from the time of the second gulf war. Sharjah TV still shows the cannon being fired at Iftar time.

Good to know! I was reading about it a few days ago (thank you, TimeOut Dubai!) and was curious myself -- think this is a "must see"!

Yes will do, if we go. Got to go to Hatta for another (hopefully the last) visa run so will see how we feel after that!

Yes, I bet that is quite a sight and sound. Might try to do that on Saturday eve.

It appears to be very close to the fountains at Burj K/Dubai Mall and the fountains go at the same time I think. Must be nice to go and watch if you are around Dubai Mall at Iftar time.
