clean car How Clean Is Your Car? Not the shiny outside… the potentially grubby inside?
That’s got you thinking hasn’t it! I’m writing this even though my hands are in agony to raise awareness for this issue. I’m having a severe allergic reaction to my car steering wheel, caused by the heat of the sun degrading the chemicals in the steering wheel which has now presented itself as a painful, swollen, itchy condition on the palms of my hands! After realising the only thing that could have caused this reaction on both hands in the same place, I did a bit of googling and found that it is quite a common problem but also one that is easily solved. I went to the doctor’s and after a process of elimination she concurred that this is the source of the irritation. If you think about what the interior temps of cars must get up too it’s no wonder that degeneration of the interior components can happen and start to release irritants. Find Out More>>
diets for 2013 in abu dhabiTop Diets for 2013
Dieting, that dreaded word that many women treat with revered apprehension. From bold statements like “I really can’t, I’m on a diet” to off the cuff remarks such as “I don’t believe in dieting, only moderation” dieting has held the women (and men) of our world today in its clutches. The trend is not going away so rather than shun it we have decided to embrace this dieting trend that really set off with the Atkins and South Beach diets. 2012 was no stranger to diet trends, life style changes and fad dieting. This trend is bound to carry on into the next year so EW thought that the readers should be aware of the popular and upcoming diet trends of 2013. Find Out More>>
4 hour body diet abu dhabiThe 4-Hour Body Diet- Tried & Tested
I’ve been putting on the pounds over the years in the UAE- not realizing you can gain a stone every year, due to “The UAE Stone” phenomena of too much take away food and not enough exercise. I have tried various diet plans over the years with varying results until I stumbled upon the 4 Hour Body Diet. I can honestly say it does work, it is not hard and the results are clear to see.I downloaded the book onto my iPad and was shocked that it is over 1,000 pages long but I have found it fascinating reading and you can dip in and out of the bits you are working on, so you don’t have to read the whole thing at once. I focused on the “what to eat to lose weight” part. The diet follows a slow carb philosophy and in a nutshell- you cut out white carbs like potatoes, rice, pasta, bread, cereals, cut your sugar intake and don’t eat fruit. The book goes into all the scientific reasons behind this and Tim Ferriss, the author, has experimented on himself to prove it works. Read More>>

The Holy Month of Ramadan is a peaceful time in the Middle East. This time is used to reflect upon faith and it is a time of generosity and giving. It is the perfect time for you to do something proactive like a month long detox. With most restaurants closed during the daylight hours and with night clubs closed for the entire month this is the perfect time to give up foods that are increasing you body’s toxicity and getting on a healthy lifestyle track. This is a detox that I do about once a year. healthy skin in abu dhabiHow Diet & Exercise Affect Your Skin
The saying ‘There are no shortcuts to success’ perfectly describes the effort that is required in skincare. Having and maintaining a flawless skin requires discipline, a healthy diet and an appropriate exercise regime.
Both dermatologists and dieticians agree that a healthy skin is directly related to a healthy diet. What you nourish your body with undoubtedly has a major impact on the general health of your body and skin. The best nourishments for the skin are fresh fruits and vegetables. In addition to this, the skin also requires unsaturated or healthy fats, lean proteins, vital minerals and vitamins especially of the groups C, B and E. Read More>>

healthy water additivesHave You Had Your 8 Glasses Today?
You will no doubt have already been told or asked or read somewhere that you have to drink 8 glasses of water a day to maintain healthy bodily functions. This notion has been pushed down our throats for as long as we can remember, and not without reason. Drinking two liters of water daily is imperative to stave off dehydration and also to ensure cell and nuclear functions within the body. Water is the body’s principal component and makes up 60 per cent of your body weight.Eight glasses is just a recommendation, how much water you require depends on how active you are and where you live. In the Middle East, we tend to perspire more due to the fact that we are living in hot climates. Furthermore any activity that you partake in will have an effect on the levels of perspiration from person to person. The Mayo Clinic suggests that the mantra should be changed from eight glasses of water to eight glasses of fluid a day. Essentially this is what the body requires. Read More>>
superfoods in abu dhabi dietSuper Foods For You!
We have all heard of superfoods and how many health benefits they yield. The term “super-food” is in no way a medical term and it is not used by doctors or nutritionists, however it is a useful term to define foods that are full of nutrients that help reduce the waistline and make for a healthier heart and body. If you increase your consumption of these super-foods you will notice a definite change in how you feel and also how you look. Your skin will glow and you will feel lighter and healthier. Many people think that superfoods are exotic and expensive, such as the goji or acai berries. And while these fruits are high in anti-oxidants and nutrients they are by no means the be all and end all of superfoods. Read More>>
organic fruit and veg abu dhabiStart eating locally grown seasonal fruit and vegetables today
Eating fruit and veg that’s in season has become quite a difficult task for an expat living in Abu Dhabi. Seasonal produce is hard to come by especially because we are all from different parts of the world and the seasons do differ quite a bit. If you hail from Europe the cherry season differs to Asia’s mango season and pears come at different times throughout the year. While we are blessed to have imports of the highest quality in our supermarkets and we are really spoilt for choice it seems that the trend has been to make all fruit and veg available year round and not just seasonally, mind you this seems to have been a worldwide trend with supermarkets, not just a case unique to the UAE. New shipment of the superfruit from New Zealand offers a bumper bundle of benefits! The new season’s ZESPRI kiwifruit from New Zealand hits the supermarket shelves of the UAE this week, backed by the strongest-ever campaign to promote its health benefits and “superfruit” status. Citing the high levels of Vitamins C and E, low glycemic index (GI) and high fibre content of kiwifruit, New Zealand growers stressed that it is particularly well suited to the UAE due to the help it provides in the management of diabetes, which is so prevalent here.
