Lulu Island, Abu Dhabi is a large manmade island. It stretches from the Abu Dhabi Breakwater to the Zayed Sea Port. It is 7 kilometres in length, 3 kms of which faces Abu Dhabi Corniche. Just a short boat ride from the Corniche, and will eventually be connected to the capital by road, the Lulu Island resort will feature apartments, villas, penthouses and townhouses in a balanced mix of urban and public spaces to be developed over a number of phases. It will offer a wide array of activities, facilities and living options, and a design that will promote a sustainable community experience.

The nearly 500-hectare island is co-owned by a real estate company and an investment and development company owned by the Abu Dhabi Government. The master plan for the island will include construction of a permanent bridge connecting the island to the mainland, as well as a 400m landmark tower known as Lulu Tower. The construction it currently tipped not to begin before 2013, and will feature 15 neighbourhoods, schools, mosques and shops. More than 40 per cent of the island is planned as open space and more than 70 per cent of the shoreline is to be open to the public. Up to 33,000 people are expected to live on Lulu. About 80 per cent of development is expected to be residential, with amenities including schools, mosques, police stations and shops.

Al Lulu Island is currently closed to the public, its only access now being by private boat. Private boats dock at the island, which is 500 metres off the coast of the Corniche, and local boat charter companies regularly drop off passengers on Friday nights for overnight camping trips. Jet-ski rental companies will even deliver there. A lot of people take their jet skis there, from Corniche beach you can see people enjoying water sport activities and swimming and bbq. It's very clean and beautiful, but please bear in mind that if you do go there, you must take responsibility for picking up your litter and taking it back ashore with you.
