Does anyone still recommend corniche for delivery? Had my first boy there 4 years ago but had to share the room although I was willing to pay. Any experience in having a private room lately? Thanks

i would still opt for corniche over any others, but its been a long while when i used it. but it depends on what your insurance/pocket wants to pay. i went before they upped the prices, it was 300 dhs for the birth! you cannot get a single room, 2 to a room, but you can pay if there is one available when you go there.

Well, my insurance covers me in any private hospital but not in corniche, but i was "thinking" of reimbursment. My previous experience in corniche was good in terms of postpartum care and food (that was extra delicious, not like al noor and nmc, both i tried wn i had GA there - not good), but the shared room(s) were a disaster. I changed the room twice. I bared the noise, the heat, the visitors, everything, but not being able to use the bathroom till very late at night when i had the guts to call a cleaner was the intolerable part!

I would only recommend it as they have the best ICU care and equipment in the unfortunate event that it was needed, but as for service downstairs prior to birth and in room care, it is an absolute nightmare, no chance of a private room for all the money in the world unless you are Local or packing some serious wasta, especially not now as there are noisy renovations happening.
They tried to put me in a room of 5, I just went home until I absolutely had to be admitted and then got a double room with the other patient, her 6 other kids, two maids and various visitors, all with their mobile phones seemingly on loudness sclae of 10.
As you can probably conclude, it is not my favourite place and 10,000 dirhams lighter for the pleasurable 36 hours!

yep as i said corniche is the best especially if u need special care, but the cattle market downstairs is much improved now compared to when i was there, although they still have along way to go. it was even worse with me as i had to go to the docs all the time, not the midwifes clinic..! so extra tests and extra waiting. but yes you do have to suffer all that goes with the room upstairs, hopefully its only for one night, if you were having a csection then i would consider going elsewhere but then again it depends on why you are having the csection, because the special care unit is the best there. glad it only cost me 300dhs!

Don't know when you were last there, but I can assure you that the downstairs circus has got markedly worse in the 12 year span that I have been visiting there and now paying big amounts for the privilege just sucks.
I did end up with a caesarean and checked out as soon as I could stand up and hobble, way too soon to go home but felt I had to get out of there for my sanity.

well it was like 12 years ago!!! it was terrible then, but in the last few years they have improved the system so it was getting better...... was ..... lol so its best to go private for the cattle class downstairs and then stick out the upstairs which is much better.

I will wait to see if anyone else has had any luck with someone closer to me. (I'm in Al Reef, but it really matter to me to see someone who's good & doesn't mind explaining, so if I have to make the trip then I will.)

Take care

well you will have to travel from al reef in any case, but she is the best in town now. the nearest place you could try would be the health centre in kca but what/who they have i dont know, the other nearest would be either of the hospitals at rabha or mafraq but they are government hospitals, depends on your insurance etc. there was another good one but she has left the country now. the other one that i could recommend is dr samia of dr mcculloughs practice, but they are in the old al noor building, so even further to get to. at least coming from al reef its more of a breeze coming down mussafah road then airport/channel st etc. but in the last couple of days they have added more cameras to the poles and so now the traffic is backing up further down the road.

swedish med centre is opposite ACS american community school in al bateen. go down 32nd st towards corniche, at traffic lights on 7th st (BMW showroom on corner) u turn, go past bmw, take first right, ACS is on your left (there is a sign post for both ACS and Swedish med centre) go down half way and its on your right hand side.
