Help - getting conflicting information about flying a big dog to the U.S.
Hi - we are moving back to the US in July and have a large labradoodle that we need to take with us. He weighs about 40 kg. We were told by Dubai Kennels and Cattery that it is cheapest to take him as accompanied baggage with us Lufthansa. The cargo option on Emirates was costing 25,000 dirhams vs the 1000 dirhams or so option of flying with the dog as excess baggage on Lufthansa.
This seemed like a no brainer until Lufthansa just told my husband that 32 kg is the limit for accompanied excess baggage. Dubai Kennels never mentioned anything to us about weight restrictions so we have no idea who is wrong and who is right. And of course, now we can't reach either the airline of DKC this afternoon.
Like I said, Max is about 40 kg and his box weighs about 20 kg so he's not a light package by any stretch. Does anyone have experience of flying with a BIG dog as accompanied baggage? Is it possible or is that for little dogs only
If cargo is the best option, should we do Lufthansa or Emirates? Which is cheaper and hopefully also more reliable? Our final destination is Orlando so maybe it's best if Max gets a break in Frankfurt.
Thanks.
