Sorry to hear about your emergency - hope all goes well. In no particular order, I can suggest these three kennels & catteries. I've only used DKC but friends are very enthusiastic about the other two. 1. Dubai Kennels and Cattery (DKC) 2. Posh Paws 3. Urban Tails You should call soon, as pet boarding spaces become hard to find over the summer months. NL :cat:

Ohh, I know that feeling . . . your stylist leaves, and it's like a terrible break up! Gemma at SLaM is great. I'm a scaredy-cat when it comes to change but went from shoulder length to jaw line, and Gemma was fantastic. She really listened, made a few suggestions, with absolutely zero pressure, and we agreed on a style (and colour) that I just love. Congrats on the new look, whatever you decide!

Do you walk in near The Address Dubai Marina entrance? The Address hotels all use the same arabic-influenced, signature scent in the lobby, which you can buy at their spas. It's not inexpensive but a bottle lasts about a year. I use 5-6 drops in a Muji diffuser, and my house smells amazing!

I am looking to learn Italian a bit ... we will be traveling there in the coming year and would like to be able to have at least a simple conversation apart from just personal development. Any idea where I can learn Italian from scratch or maybe there is a tutor who can help out? Ooohh, Italy! Yum! I've used Rosetta Stone for a couple of languages, and really recommend their courses. I pull them out for refreshers when I'm travelling to a Spanish or French-speaking country, and they do the trick. That being said, there's nothing like learning with native speakers or a tutor. Enjoy! [url=http://www.rosettastone.com/learn-italian/'>link[/url'>

I would suggest you to go to the beach since it's your birthday. You deserve to witness the sunset. And then, after that, I'll advice you to go for a dinner. Spoil yourself and eat the food that you want. And lastly, drink wine. It should be the exclamation point to your day! I hope i gave you the right advice :) Thanks, Stef Great ideas, and a bottle of bubbly is already chilling! Cheers, NL

Hubby has told me that there are some Christmas cards that are very 'Dubai' made by a local magazine publisher but can't remember which one (!). I haven't seen any in the shops though. Anyone heard of these? Cath Hi Cath, Clare Napper has wonderful 'Dubai' posters, postcards and cards. She might have Christmas ones. Hi Hope, Check with the bank that issues your Visa card. Mine offers full collision coverage on all vehicle rentals, which the rental company will also check and confirm. I do not have to purchase additional coverage. Over the years, I've rented with several companies in Canada, all with the same policy. I'm now very loyal to Enterprise Rent-A-Car. [url=https://www.enterprise.ca/en/home.html'>link[/url'> Their rates are the best, by far, and customer service is very personable and great. All vehicles are new, i.e. under six months. Amazingly, they will clearly tell you that Enterprise has no issues with any small 'scratches and dings' or 'wheel scrapes' on the car you've returned. Seriously! I only have experience in B.C. but Enterprise is available across the country. I think you will have to pay extra if you're taking the car across provinces, or into the States. Have a wonderfully Canadian summer holiday!! :) Cheers, NL

When in NY, I try to stay at The Ludlow, which is a boutique hotel on the Lower East Side. I know this isn't the area you are looking at but the hotel is worth a look. There are 'factory-style casement windows in every room, repurposed wood beams', and it's in a very hip neighbourhood (so it books quickly), The rates are within the upper range of your budget. I usually reserve a Loft King room, which has wonderful cornered windows. If available, the Skybox Loft room is amazing - 180 degree views of Manhattan!! I usually contact the hotel directly to ask about availability, and have received special rates. [url=http://ludlowhotel.com'>link[/url'> Wishing you a fab trip! I'm very envious . . . :) Ps. I'm not affiliated with the hotel in any way; I travel a lot for my work, and love to feel pampered (who doesn't?).

i have tablets called Kalms and i've also heard of others called sleep calms which are a natural sleeping aid, might try some of those i have panadol night but sometimes if i take those i wake up feeling really groggy, so if i dont manage to sleep on them on the plane i know i'll feel awful from them maybe a couple of calms and couple of drinks might do the trick! i cant take a window seat because i get up a lot because i get so uncomfortable... wish they'd put the foot rests back in to make it more bearable Is there such thing as a blow up foot rest that you could get? Or maybe get a blow up cushion / neck pillow that you could put your feet on to make it more comfortable. I'm quite short and I miss the foot rests too. I end up using my hand luggage as a foot rest most of the time and everything gets squashed inside the bag!!!! hahhaa i do the same and everything in the bag is so squashed by the end of it  These work a charm  [url=https://www.travelite.org/2011/02/product-review-inflatable-footrest/'>link[/url'>

Hi, dye experts! reviving this thread as I have a couple of questions I couldn't find answered on search option... 1. once you dye clothing in your front load washer, are you freaked about washing the next load? Any residue from the dye remaining? 2. I got an oily hot sauce on a pair of white jeans, pre-treated with dish soap (which has never let me down) and the stain hasn't come out :( I've even tried a little spot bleach to zero avail. They were really expensive and hate to "lose" them. I've only bleached the one spot although it obviously didn't change the color of the white jeans. Would this spot not pick up the dye well? I dye a lot of black clothing and once they are done I run the machine again on a hot wash with my other darks in to make sure all the dye has gone I cannot help with the oily stain problem though I regularly dye my black clothing (all fabrics) to get back that [i'>almost[/i'> brand-new look. I always run an empty hot wash, and then do the next 1-2 loads with dark colours - never whites - just to be cautious. With a front load washer, make sure to wipe down the inside rubber rings where the door sits, as tiny pools of dyed water sometimes collect in these. I've never had any issues with residue affecting other washes. Recently, I had a similar problem with a persistent grease spot on a blue jersey dress. None of my usual stain removal tricks worked. I tried dying the dress - twice - but the stain was still visible. Boo hoo! In hindsight, I should have taken it to a professional. It wasn't an expensive piece but still a favourite. Hope everything works out for you, and you can rescue your jeans. Let us know how you did. Cheers, NL

Heartbreaking, indeed :( So sorry for you and puss, and hope your daughter is doing better. I might know a family but they have a rather rambunctious young dog, which may not be the most suitable environment for a mature kitty. You mention that your guy is good around other cats and children. Do you have a dog, too? Have you tried linking up with the Bin Kitty Collective, yet?

Oh, no! What a distressing welcome. Poor you, and poor Raffy! Nomad's advice is spot-on. We had a few cats brought to our door that looked nothing like the photo or description but at least people were looking. Eventually our puss wandered home on his own, in the middle of the night, some days later. You can try leaving a clean bowl of water near your door, and perhaps a favourite blanket or toy that Raffy will recognise. A bowl of kibbles, too, although that might attract other neighbourhood kitties. Don't lose hope! Sending oodles of positive thoughts.

Hope this is not too late. I lived and worked in Sri Lanka, and stayed several times at the Cinnamon Grand. I'd recommend it for a family with young children, lovely grounds and pools, and very convenient as an earlier poster mentioned. Also . . . a 5-minute walk across the street to the Galle Face, la grande dame of colonial hotels, where a sundowner G&T or a Sunday brunch on their seaside terrace and garden is a must! Enjoy! :)

Sorry to hear about your problem. It must be distressing for you. It would be a good idea to see a GP. Dry skin and thinning hair or hair loss could be related to a number of medical conditions that shampoos will not be able to fix, e.g. vitamin or mineral deficiencies, thyroid conditions, etc. Your doctor might want to do some simple lab tests. Hope everything works out!

I did it once and said I wanted a natural look and came out with heavy eyeliners, it looked ridiculous. Then I tried it again without giving to much instructions and came out with a natural look, but not wow. I did it both time in Dubai Mall. Same experience. I was very insistent that I was never-ever going to use heavy eyeliners and shadows, bronzers and other BB products for contouring, etc. Although I had booked the daytime look class, the inhouse 'beauty expert' was relentless in pulling out products that did not match my definition of a 'natural look'. I repeatedly had to inform her that I had no intention of using or buying multitudes of different creams, powders and and potions for the 10 minutes I allot myself each morning. Unfortunately, it was neither a relaxing or educational experience. Also, the shop lighting is quite dim and once I was outside the mall - yikes! That being said, I love Bobbi Brown and I had a very good experience with a BB make-up lesson, a few years ago, back home. It might have been just bad luck for me here, or that perspectives on a natural look are much different in UAE :)

It would be extremely unfair if they allowed the import of FIV+ cats while they do not allow the import of HIV+ humans. If the residency visa medical test for otherwise very capable and lovely people turns out positive, they have 24 hours to leave the country. HIV treatment here is only available to emaratis. Why would FIV treatment be available then? And why would you want to potentially spread FIV by your cat amongst other cats here? The OP keeps her cat inside. FIV is found everywhere around the world, and in other members of the cat family (lions, tigers, cheetahs, etc). There is a lot of information on the Internet, which might be helpful for you to read. Barney is very lucky to have found such a caring family :) NL, HIV+ people also live all over the world, still immigration law bans them. Similarly, law bans FIV+ cats. You may like it or not, but law applies to loving families too. Most countries allow import of cats with FIV, and I believe that UAE is the same. However, the OP can confirm with a local pet relocation agency. I work with PLWHA so a debate on this apples and oranges issue is unnecessary, and does not add to the thread :)

Hi Amy here. I am new in town and would like to know which is the best beauty salon for females in Dubai? For what services? I use Tips and Toes for mani/pedi eyebrow threading but then somewhere else for facials and hair dressing Welcome to Dubai, Amy! What area are you living in? Are you 'mobile' yet, and would you mind going somewhere outside of your area? Many choices of services but, like Saralou, I go to different places for various needs . . . NL :)

Hi RL, Exciting move! Are you working with a pet relocation agency in the UK or one in the UAE? I don't have experience with a FIV+ cat but all of the myriad of questions - and believe me, there were hundreds to allay the anxieties about my beloved rescue puss travelling - were answered professionally, and with a lot of empathy for my nervousness, by the local agency I worked with. There are a few in Dubai who I believe all do good work. I went with Dubai Kennels and Cattery (DKC) and couldn't have been happier. More importantly, my beloved maus arrived safely and without any paperwork or airline issues as everything was well-prepared. I can (highly) recommend DKC although I'm sure other forum users could provide additional names. Perhaps you can drop them an email with your question? [url=http://www.dkc.ae'>link[/url'> Good luck with everything, especially Barney! Cheers, NL :cat:

More than likely because of its active ingredients (hydroquinone, tretinoin and hydrocortisone), a doctor might be able to prescribe it for you but the pharmacies in UAE will not carry the product. It should only be used under close MD supervision. OTC use in a harsh sun environment is contraindicated. If previously prescribed, it would be best to obtain a refill from home or when you travel out. I've had the experience that pharmacies will say they are out of stock of certain medications, when they really mean that they are no longer carrying it. Ever.

Depends on the type of product but, normally, you should remove everything from the kitchen that your family will come into contact with (utensils, dishes, pots) and all food that isn't sealed or in airtight plastic or glass containers. And don't forget to keep any pets away from the room. :)
