Hmmm I feel this won't go down well, but I will say it anyway. You husband is the one out working his bo**ocks off to keep you happy and in the style that you may have become accustomed to. While you are not working, I feel you should not be out at the beauty salon every week, or out lunching twice a week or having coffee mornings twice a week. There is no need for a trip to the hair dressers every week. Unless you are desperately trying to fit in to the Jumeirah Jane lifestyle. Yes marriage is a partnership but at the moment you are not contributing to that partnership. I would not have felt comfortable asking my husband to support me when I first came here. He worked hard for his money, as do I, so it just wouldn't have been an issue. I'm not saying 1000aed is enough, however maybe look at what you are spending it on and what and why you need more money. Sorry if this offends anyone.

People that say "off of" eg. I'll get that book off of her or "Get off of me" Also, "I will see if I can't book the holiday" - why would you see if you can't do it??? I am more a grammar nazi though with the written word! :)

As a qualified teacher with a degree and a masters, this is one of the things that really annoys me about here. When I first moved here I was in a school that I was not happy in, teaching a random subject that was not my own. I left. I am now in a fantastic school and very happy in my job. It annoys me that many of the schools I applied to while I was in my "unhappy" school, would not interview me nevermind offer me a position because I was "over qualified" - as someone from an agency told me, "why would they employ someone who is more qualified than themselves, a potential threat". Now I hear about people "teaching" and having what I would call basic child care qualifications and earning about the same amount of money as me. It is a joke. One of the posters is correct, parents are paying a lot of money to have their children educated in good schools by qualified teachers. They should be made aware of this.

PGCE stands for POST Graduate Certificate in Education....not Professional. The one in Nottingham is an International one which DOES NOT qualify you for teaching in the UK. It specifically states this on their website. In my opinion, a waste of money if you plan to return there at some stage in your career life. Why not go to UK, do your PGCE, get your qualification and then decide where you want to teach?

I live in Sharjah and travel to dubai every day. I was a member of Sharjah wanderers for three years but recently there have not been the same crowds of people in and it tends to be quite insular with everyone knowing or thinking they know everyone's business!! I do all my socialising now in Dubai, nearest "local" bring the Irish village.

OP as far as I am aware it is the company's duty to repatriate. That is what happened when my husband was killed in a road accident. Drivers here are absolutely awful. They cannot stay in the same lane, they do not indicate, they speed, they are PERMANENTLY on their phones, they cut in, they tailgate, the children are not strapped in, they do not know what "Merging" is, they cannot go round a roundabout in the correct lane, they push in in lines of traffic....and where are the police when all this is happening? They seriously need to enforce stronger laws in this country, whether that is a stricter driving test. a minimum income for car owning, larger fines that they actually enforce. I get so so cross and stressed out because of the other idiots on the road who do not care about anyone else's lives or their own. Yet you can be put in jail or fined for two opposite sexes holding hands or showing affection! It is just ridiculous and makes me so cross. ggggrrrr

Had a Pajero and changed to an Explorer recently. Fab car. Safe, reliable, huge and a tank which surrounds me with lots of metal. Definitely needed in this country when there are complete idiots allowed on the roads......and before I get grief from people about me generalising, my husband was killed by idiots on these roads that can't drive. I do a lot of mileage each week and a full tank costing 115AED ish will do approx 500kms. I did look at the Grand Cherokee too but the Ford had more gadgets on it!! :) Ford Explorer all the way.

Many things. However I'd put up with them all now to have him back. He died last year.
