I went. The kids area is nice with a swing ride, a train, a bit of fake snow, and a Santa. There is a market side with some food and drinks and music. A friend went to the one at Madinat Jumeirah and it looked MUCH grander.

Good morning Msmads1 The first while in Dubai can be tough. Keep your mind open to meeting people. Go to the coffee groups, and remember that a lot of women are in the exact same situation as you. Try joining a gym, or yoga class as well. When I first moved to AD I went to 1 coffee morning before I started working and found 3 ladies who were also brand new to the country so we decided to do touristy things together like kayaking in the mangroves, and checking out some heritage sites.

Hi Gojo Have you been diving in UAE yet? I'm curious as to other peoples experiences. We did 2 dives in Fuejeirah that were awful. The vis was so poor that it was a big frightening, and the last dive got canceled. Musandam on the other hand was amazing!

I looked at Queue point a while ago and loved the interior space of the flat, but didn't like that there is no shops under any buildings (and never will be), and there's no pool or gym, and the military base is right next door.

Thanks for your input ladies. I was at a 5* hotel pool this weekend and felt bothered that a girl who was about 6 was without a top, mostly as she was overweight and had little blossoms forming. At the same time i felt bothered that I was bothered and that a little girl should be able to do as she pleases? ... if that makes sense.

As Canadian you can also apply to extend her visa (30 day on arrival) once she is here. Then she gets another 30 days. Before you could easily go to a border then stamp in and out. As others are saying there are some new rules that it seems they are giving time for people to adapt to which means she would have to leave the country for 24 hours before coming back in. If this is the case once she comes here, you can go up to Musandam (west side near RAK, not zighy bay side @ dibba), and stay at a nice hotel for a night and then come back. As far as I know the 90 day multi entry visa has been gone for 3 years now.... http://www.uae-embassy.ae/embassies/ca/content/2117

I agree with all that Executive towers, or even south ridge, would fit your needs. The metro is very close to both, but it runs parallel to the water, not going towards it. That being said, downtown is about a 10 minutes taxi ride (less than 5 dollars), to get to the beach.

I know the irritation your feeling! At one retail shop the "sales" people follow you around within 30 cm of you at all times. If you touch an item they run and grab every colour of it there is, and ask you if you want to try on anything you even glance at. If i wanted to try it on I would tell you. Once your ready to try on said garments you cant find the sales person and they dont even know where they put the garments!!

There's a tea house located between dubai mall and the address. on the 2nd floor of the glass standalone building. They have afternoon tea with little sandwhiches, scones, cakes. So cute!

if you give your mobile number you may get a million smses from 3rd party companies. If you give the wrong mobile number, and you forget something in the building you may never get it back. As far as I am aware, not much can be done with a copy of your EM ID. Some people I know just give their drivers licence, or id from their home country.

Try wikimapia I highly suggest living somewhere in the middle like Jumeirah (Villas), barsha south (Villas) or business bay, downtown, sheikh zayed road (Apartments). it all depends on your budget, size requirements, villa or apartment etc

I also would go try them at the mall. Different hair types work with different types of products. Also some of the products online will not heat up enough, or will damage your hair. If you have the budget try going to the beauty product shop on SZR near mcdonalds/crown plaze.

There are two birdwatches huts at ras al khor wildlife sanctuary. the one on E66 (between ras al khor and al khail) is AMAZING for looking at flamingo. I beleive the feeding is at 10am and 4pm. You can see them all day, but at feeding time they get so close to the building. The other birdwatch hut is on ras al khor road, going towards downtown, just before the E66 junction. This one is ideal for seeing migratory birds and blue herring and big cool birds. Last time I went to this one they had a wasp problem though, so be careful. ;)

This happened to my DH the other day. The machine said the first transaction had some communication error (we saw the paper slip stating this), then he paid again by card. After a few min we got the SMSes stating 2 transactions went through. we simply told the guy and he gave us cash back from the till.

I had ants on the 5th floor last year and tried everything to keep them out. Even with a perfectly clean kitchen they kept coming back. What did the trick for me in the end was cleaning walls, counters etc of kitchen and entry ways with vinigar, and leaving the coffee grinds from my morning brew in the sink for the day. I did this every day for about 2 weeks and they stayed away. I also left baking powder trails under the sink, fridge, and dish washer just incase a cockroach decided to invade my house.

from the investment side it might be worth while as surely the prices will go up once the entire area is done. from a living there side i didnt like how far away it was, how dusty it was outside and even inside due to the winds, and how the pool is not complete/ there will be construction on the remaining buildings for years to come.

Hi NIkitaD Saskatchewan is a lovely place (much like the rest of Canada :P ) It is very quiet and peaceful with lovely fields of wheat and barley and cows hehehe. Regina is a small city and you won't have to worry about traffic or people always being in a rush. Also a cool plus about Canada is that its super cheap to go on a vacation to Mexico or Cuba for a week. I really hope you like your visit and that immigration works for you :)

First you need to go to your embassy and get a letter stating you were never married before, are not married now, and are not widowed. then go get this translated to arabic, and get the arabic version stamped by... if i remember correctly, ministry of interior? (Men don't need this paper for some reason). you and him must be on residency visa. get photo copies of your visas, passports, emirates id, and even ijari of his or yours just in case. and there's an application form from the court you have to fill in, but can fill it at the court if you get married there. there may be 1 or 2 other papers you need as he is muslim and you are not, but the receptionist at the marriage desk of the court will be able to advise. either you can schedule with an imam to go to your house, or you can show up at the court. In abu dhabi at the court ladies must wear an abaya and head scarf. not sure about Dubai. You need 2 non related witnesses to sign papers at your ketbiktab as well. Also you should pre-agree on your marriage $ and your divorce $ as the judge will as you both if you agree to this and that. and then CONGRATS

It's 100% up to your preference. [b'>nursery-[/b'> pros: socialization, more accountability, a nurse on site, Cons- lots of germs, extremely expensive, holidays/hours at the nursery [b'>nanny[/b'>- pros: more cost effective, can clean while baby is asleep, can work whatever hours you need, cons- less accountability, less to no socialization of the baby, less to no organized activities for development.

you can't convert an international licence to a UAE one. Be careful as getting a licence here can be very costly and time consuming. Taxis are very cheap so you can get around easily until you get a licence though. I haven't been to Meyda, but know its a newer area (maybe not fully developed yet), but it is in good proximity to downtown/dubai mall, and shiekh zayed road. Its mostly villas so there should be lots of other families there. For furniture if you are considering buying once you get here there are a lot of options such as : - ikea, home centre, fairpoint, marina home, pottery barn, west elm, ethan allan, etc etc etc.

A lot of my friends little siblings graduated last year from very good UAE schools and are being offered similar internships. Most of them are offered 1500 dhs a month without any accommodation, food, or transport.. So for an internship being offered housing food and 500 is a pretty good offer if you just graduated. I would say you need 5000-8000 dhs a month to live comfortably (assuming that your work will drive you to and from your housing and that your housing is not in the desert).

From my understanding dressing your children matching (either to yourself or other children) can be a sign of luxury /wealth here, as it means you had enough money to buy them the clothes very recently (before 1 of them grows out of it or stains it), and enough time to ensure both outfits were clean and pressed at the same time etc.

Tessa: of course it is not good to ignore the differences in people, but grouping 7 billion people into a few categories based on their skin colour is so illogical. Once you move to Dubai you will find out that people from India will get very offended if you think they are from Pakistan and vice versa. This is partially due to the major cultural differences between the two countries. Also you will meet Syrians who you may think are "white" at first introduction, but of course they are not [b'>culturally t[/b'>he same as someone who is British. To each his own. If you want to pierce your babies ears so be it! If you want to wait until puberty, so be it! If you want to shave their hair off do it, if you want to die your babies hair pink DO IT! (** now the thread may shift to the dangerous of chemicals on a babies head, and before it does just remember there are vegetable based hair dies...)

I parked on a dirt road downtown the other day right after sunset and saw some shadows in the trunk of an SUV. My husband and I sat in shock for a few moments, then saw the shadows of pants being put on, the guy climbing back to the front, and driving away. **Shacking head in shock and saddness
