Hi everyone I am new to Dubai - just moved here a week ago! We are looking for a place to rent and really liked the look of Sama Tower but it seems to have construction on one side which, although might be nearing the end, is obviously still ongoing. I understand construction is also about to begin on the other side... Are there any current tenants of the Sama Tower who could share their experiences of how noisy it can be if your flat faces the construction please? Thanks in advance! E.

I don't have a frame of reference here but I did notice JBR apartments were rather small. However, some others looked nice. I stayed in Burj Views Downtown and the apartments weren't too large either, though I guess they are not all the same size. 6 months is still pretty good for me though :) Keep in mind the apartments in Marina are as big as hamster cages and expensive as penthouses. Only 6 months of the year will you be able to walk outside and enjoy the weather. The other six months you better love your apartment and its airconditioning and in a small apartment it can be a bit claustrophobic...

Thanks very much for this! I will have a look at that side as well. Coming home at the weekend and feeling like I am headed to a holiday destination is exactly the feeling I am after :) I did not really enjoy being Downtown - Burj Khalifa was nice to look at and the Dubai mall is nice, but Marina gave you a feel of actually being in Dubai. I'm a huge fan of the Marina, where we have lived for 6 years, many of them plagued by traffic and construction noise and I still think it's worth it, but of course that is a very personal opinion. I work at Emirates Towers, so close to DIFC, and it takes approx. 25/30 mins to get to the office, more these days but that's more SZR traffic than the Marina itself. My advice would be to look at the side of the Marina closest to Sheikh Zayed Road, as you avoid a lot of the congestion coming over the bridges towards JBR. On that side you have Silverene, Al Majara, West Avenue and lots of others. It justs cuts out a step of potential congestion. We're on the other JBR side and it often adds 5/10 extra minutes, but has gotten a lot better in the last few weeks now that the Tram construction has abated. On a Thurs afternoon there is nothing better than heading home knowing you'll feel like you are on holiday for the next two days with beach, shops, restaurants within walking distance and no need to drive anywhere should you not want to. I love it. FFx

Perfect - thank you! I now have a better idea of where to look :) Much appreciated! And Marina Pinnacle? Look for the Mina Seyahi Hotel JBR has a public beach to walk along I don't think you can get onto the stretch of beach at the end of JBR and The Westin etc as they are private beaches however my colleague lives near the Marina Crown and has to get onto the beach by the Meridien Beach resort which is a 10 minutes walk away To walk out of your place and straight onto the beach you really need to live at JBR or just behind it My colleague who is just back in from lunch lives near Barasti and she said it takes her 20 mins to get in to work :-) edited by sarahlou123 on 06/11/2014 I don't mind living away from the beach as long as there is a view of the Marina Waters or the beach :) 20 mins sounds ideal! Is Ocean Heights near to where she is?

Thank you - it looks lovely but I still prefer the Marina. There is something about being close to/on the beach after spending most of my life in the cold! :) What residences are closer to Barasti, if you don't mind me asking? Wow, that is rather long! I am not so keen on JBR - I don't really like the apartments as they seem smaller than what I have otherwise seen. The Marina ones look nice, though. What are the Greens like? I too work at the DIFC but live in the Greens. I used to live in the Marina however moved 3 years ago as it was too noisy, busy, traffic was awful and still is around JBR etc It used to take me anything from 30 minutes to an hour to get to the Marina. It now takes me 16 minutes unless there has been an accident I think if you find the right building then the traffic isn't so bad and once the tram is open ( 5 days) it will be better. If you live further out close to Barasti etc then I imagine getting out is far better than living at JBR end. This map may help regarding apartments. http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=map%20of%20dubai%20marina%20buildings&qs=n&form=QBIR&pq=map%20of%20dubai%20marina%20buildings&sc=1-19&sp=-1&sk=#view=detail&id=E91A81EDE97749A833D00BCF125828B644873B19&selectedIndex=8 I have a friend who lives in the Marina Residences near Grosvenor House and that is a lovely clean building. The Views is the newer part and they look over the golf course. They are developed by Emaar who I feel are one of the best developers here in terms of finish, amenities, security etc. Downtown is also a Emaar project Pools are fantastic, its clean, lots of trees/greenery which is was I wanted coming from a very small UK village. Shops close by, supermarket, pizzeria, ice cream shops, café, salon, nail salon, pharmacy etc, we have Tecom across the street which is full of shops, hotels and bars Mall of the Emirates is 10 minutes away as is the Metro Stop Have a look on just rentals.com website http://www.justrentals.com/dubai/all-apartments-for-rent-in-the-views.html?minbed=1# Expect to pay 100-120 a year I live in Turia which are low level ones and they are costing 100-105 now I love where I live but have to move as the rents are too expensive for me, I wont go too far though as I like not sitting in traffic to go to work

I really liked Bayt Al Wakeel for a different sort of experience - http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g295424-d1808949-Reviews-Bayt_Al_Wakeel-Dubai_Emirate_of_Dubai.html It is especially beautiful in the evening.

Well you could get the metro to work, then no need to worry about the traffic - just get an apartment near the metro station Sorry for the silly question but how far is it?
