Has anyone recently done this in Abu Dhabi? The POLO site is "under construction", we recently moved to Abu Dhabi from Dubai. Visa is held in Abu Dhabi.

I am certain there are more affordable options.... However, we used a company called ASAP Documents and the process was very quick and easy for us. Just sending out an option.

We have always been a fan of the original boat setting Aprons and Hammers, but visited the new JBR location. Absolutely fabulous. Different vibe, but very nice as well. It will be added to our, "Go-to" guest locations. Very happy.

We were very happy with E-Movers. They were professional and nothing was damaged. Our move was from Dubai to Abu Dhabi. I had three quotes and theirs was competitive. I chose them, as they were most recommended :0) Hope this helps.

Dubai's best kept secret was that fish resturant just off beach road.. however, now that people know about it , its over priced, rubbish food and so busy you have to wait over an hour if you dont get there at 5.30 to stand in line.. I remember when it cost 15 dirhams to buy a whole locally caught fish, cooked beautifully.,. Now AED 150 per kilo for bullet like prawns everything is thrown in the deep fat fryer and cremated.. awful awful place. some secrets are best kept as secrets. Wow!!! When I read the thread title, this was my EXACT thought about this exact same place. I agree 100%

IN our search for housing Abu Dhabi, most villas are missing lights. As I think I understand the maintenance staff, when cleaning and painting a villa/apt after tenant moves out to prepare for new tenant they are in routine of removing EVERYTHING. Well nothing is returned including light fixtures. Is there some kind of huge secondhand market place for all these light fixtures that are purchase and removed after tenants leave? Where do these fittings end up? Curtains? Towel racks? Shelving?

*I believe she will need a release form (NOD?) from her Current employer If she doesnt have her passport/Visa, she needs copies *Valid Emirates ID (The registration completed and filed registration form) *She will need to do the medical exam for sure... the certificate will be complete in 2-3days stating FIT (hopefully) * Then the typing of the application, FEES, Medical Insurance (Al Dhafra and Daman are in MOI), I did this all in Ministry of Interiors All in: Approximately: Medical 350dhs, ID 170dhs, Insurance 600dhs Daman, Visa FEES 5235dhs Dont get too worried or frustrated and make yourself comfortable for a couple days work. I have never been able to get it all done in one go. Mentally prepare; water, snack, book... whatever keeps you calm. Just completed this last week. Things change and sometimes things are simply done differently. Best of luck.

So, I will keep it simple.... DIA. It is cheeky that Schools are allowed to start right in the middle of a term. Cheeky and unfair to families such as yourself. You will not recover any of your fees/costs

What a great, useful thread! We are considering this daily in our home at the moment. We question the balance between saving and spending, wants vs. needs, things for life experience vs things that are simply over the top and how to make the best decisions. I guess it is about balance and each of us has a different center. Thank you ladies for helpful advice.

I have been spending a lot of time driving up and down and around and around the area. I have a Garmin GPS and have been tracking my trails. It is fun to coordinate with Google Earth and cross check the Satellite imaging to eliminate some by the imagery. I have called several, some owner and some Agents. I have heard some very interesting things. Some of the "To Let/For Rent signs on Villas are actually large villas that are renting separate divided units. I havent bothered to look at those. Although, I am sure that could be an interesting experience. Also, some are saying prices are going up and some say coming down. I dont know what to believe. There are many new vacant places and many, many up and coming constructions works that seem to be finishing soon. Thankfully, I have time to find the areas I like best and then prioritize from there. Thank you to those who have offered helpful suggestions. What do you think ladies, are prices going up or coming down?

Thank you Busybee for the response. Our budget is fair and more than reasonable. I wouldnt want to overlook any of our options. Is this privately listed or up and coming? We would love to sort out a villa before moving time... but, understand the difficulties. Any help is very welcomed and appreciated

What a great trip! The answer depends hugely on what your interests are. As a California Native, Id say with both San Fran and LA and even Las Vegas... stay very near to the area that most interests you. Then, you are within walking and taxi of all things exciting. There are so many fun, interesting, exciting, beautiful experiences to be had in each of these places. All of which can easily be ruined and stressed by loooong commutes in frustrating traffic. So, plan to be close. The weather in the Cali two is amazing and a nice walk is a big piece of the experience. I wish you best that each has to offer.

We recently needed the lift for moving some items. We paid the 2,000aed fee and were allowed exclusive access (the elevator stayed on our floor as we quickly loaded and unloaded it) for the time needed. Then, walked right back to the Taziz office to receive our full fee/deposit back. No issues, problem free. Hope this helps.

We have stayed many places here and in the USA. We have filled our applications online and simply state 2 children in our reservations. We have never had an issue showing up with our Family of five (2 adults and three children). Although, for our sanity we usually have a suite or a larger sized room as it is difficult to squeeze five into a small room. Hope this helps.

Maybe under new ownership/Upper management, this school can be helpful in the school crisis here in Dubai. We should all be hopeful for well managed and academically proficient schools in the UAE with many curriculum offerings. This is most beneficial to all of our children and the education we are paying towards.

Hi Runnergirl13, I have two school visits planned for this Wednesday; American Community School and GEMS American Academy. I attempted to call American International School four times and was transferred around and around but, could not a reach anyone to organize a visit to their campus. We will drop in on the day and hope there is someone present who may be helpful in person. If you have better luck, please share. Our children will be starting school in Abu Dhabi in September. edited by Encore on 02/06/2013

The best and most accurate information will be found on a simple google search from the quiet and comfort of your own home. Here, you will receive very personal and biased reports, not necessarily factual. One truth, there are differences and some curriculum's work wonderful for one child and not for another child in the same family. In Dubai, this is a very "hot Topic" and continues to bear the burden of stress and arguments from all sides in every direction. Best of luck for you and your family to find the perfect fit.

It is very frustrating to read this about JAPS. Over the last couple years I have heard so many very positive compliments about this school. It was my belief that the "Non-profit" status had them categorically more concerned with the children's education and needs. I am very disappointed to read that they are not responding to parents valid concerns. It worries me that so many schools in Dubai are far removed from parents/students concerns and needs. And it seems alarming that they dismiss us and our children with the flippant attitude of, "Next on the list....moving on." How stressful.

There is a School shortage crisis in Dubai. For this reason, Schools are doing whatever they want and taking money from everyone to "secure places". To quote the Accountant at our current school, "We can do whatever we want. If you dont like it, leave." My Sons FS-1 class just added another new student (at full 1st term fees for 5 weeks of school remaining) to "secure" this childs FS-2 place for next school year. Seems true, they CAN do whatever they want. We either pay whatever they demand out of desperation or know that our children may potentially will be out of school. I worry that soon enough these schools will start a "silent" bidding war. And just simply start the bidding process.

The venue was a disgraceful embarrassment to such talented performers. The Dancers and Musicians brought their Magic to Dubai. Their professionalism and fortitude was a tribute to their talents, unwavering discipline and passion. I am forever grateful for the opportunity to watch such amazing talent perform with the highest standards with complete disregard to the ridiculous surroundings. The song by Queen, "The Show must go on," played in mind at times. Thank you dearly to every member of The Royal Moscow Ballet. My 7 year old daughter watched with enchantment, with wide eyes from start to finish. I watched her, watch them at times. Absolutely Magical!

Yesterday was washing machine started acting funny, like it was being electrocuted and bouncing around with the computer screen flashing. I reached back and switched of the power on the wall plug. The entire plug and wall socket was fire hot. We keep a small fire extinguisher in our apartment, in the event there is a small fire emergency. It occurred to me yesterday, that our housemaid and children have no idea how to operate a fire extinguisher. I gave a small demonstration on how to pull the plug, aim, squeeze and spray in the event something small catches fire. I also showed everyone where the much larger extinguishers are in the building hall. [b'>Has anyone ever heard of a fire safety course or demonstration done by fire officials? Or something where one could practice in a proper safety environment?[/b'> It is so scary to think of the possible outcome with all these high rises and the potential for a huge disaster over a small electrical fire.

Hubby and I were out running tonight on the marina. On the opposite side of the Marina to the Marina mall there are small humps in the pathways. Somehow, someway, someone painted the metal on them tonight sometime and simply left them. My Husband fell and two runners behind us fell on our way out. Then on the way back two couples (four people) had fallen down as we were heading back. We came across a friend of ours walking his dogs and he had fallen. Terribly unsafe... what a shame. Sadly, there will be many accidents tonight. Hopefully no one will be critically injured.

I'm sorry Bird. It wasn't my intention to irritate you. In fact, quite the opposite really... I didn't feel multiple posts for Swan Lake tickets would be fair to the forum (I previously did have my own btw). I realize how frustrating the hunt is, I have been on it for days. My apologies and hopefully we may both find ourselves sitting the Ballet in one of the shows. ***no need for a TNT, I am simply interested in tickets.

Is this an agency walker? Shouldn't their rates be set? If it's just somebody you'd like to hire I'm surprised the moral police haven't jumped on you yet to ensure that said dog walker is under your sponsorship... will he be a live-in dog walker? Will he just walk the dog or would you also like a list of household chores he should be doing as well- I don't believe Alex's Shoes includes dog walking which is a major oversight... Are you going to give Fridays off or should the dog-walker work 7 days a week. at your beck and call? Are you only going to pay for his flight home once a year, or if he decides to stay in town will you give him cash instead? Oh dear, so many questions!! ;) Bahahahaaaa, at your, "BARK and call" Sorry, couldnt resist. This was outstanding.

My kids dont attend Raffles, they are at one of the schools with crazy parking. Heck, there are a LOT of crazy ridiculous things about the school my kids attend but, honesty about those things would just get your thread deleted ;0) Anyhow, I accompanied a friend of mine to a Raffles pick up the other day and I was IMPRESSED with the whole process. It was smooth, relaxed and non dramatic. Our school has parents parking three lanes wide in fast moving traffic. People swerving like maniacs to miss cars pulling into and around the three lanes of illegally parked cars (flashers are usually blinking so, I guess that makes them okay?). Then, on the other side of the school you have the polite security guards trying to control the flow of traffic for hundreds of kids, parents, maids, trying to cross several lanes of moving traffic, double parked vehicles (flashers going) whilst angry horns are blowing, school buses from other schools are attempting to pick up and drop off. It is crazy madness everyday, every pick-up and every drop-off.

In Dubai, the new "norm" for fees is 500dhs for registration and 500dhs separately for the assessment. We recently sat the KG 1 assessment for GEMS American Academy, they are assessed in a group (I think there were 7) 3-4 year-olds, in a classroom setting, using play as means to get the information they need. My child said he had "fun" and enjoyed his "play date". I found the assessment process brilliant and very age appropriate. We have also had the grinding one-on-one line of intimidating questions done at another assessment and it was much less warm and fuzzy. I recall one child having a meltdown at the door and the Father left with him. I just assumed he would need to reschedule as 3-4 year olds have these moments. Sorry to hear about your experience. Perhaps, having another go may be an option?
