Hi All I am thinking of learning a new language. Whilst it seems logical to learn Arabic whilst im here, i feel mandarin might be more useful? What do you think and can anyone suggest a good teacher? Thanks Hi there, I am a native Arabic speaker currently (re) learning Mandarin. If you need advise on Mandarin teachers, I am happy to help. As for which to choose, depends on what your plans are. Thinking of moving/working in Asia? Please share with me you're recommendations. I am not planning on a move to Asia just yet, but i feel like in the coming years Asia will be an emerging market and speaking Mandarin will be more valuable than Arabic? Work wise.

I have a great hairdresser right now, but she is super expensive. She charges 800aed just for highlight.. no cut or other extras. She does a great job but i simply cannot afford to fork out that mich every 6 weeks! In England an amazing stylist with colour cut and blowdry would cost me 50 pounds aka 250aed. The price difference is insane.. made even more insane by the fact the hairdressers here seem to be of such low quality. Does anybody know of a good hairdresser in Dubai that does good blonde highlights? Ill be forever grateful :( xox

As most people know Nakheel can be a nightmare. I have emailed them to ask whether it is allowed to add invisble safety netting to my apartment balcony but had no response as yet. It is quite expensive to have installed so i dont want to have to remove it. Has anybody had any experience with this? My balcony is probably already about 4.5ft high and has approx 4.5ft open Thanks for any advice :)

Dear ladies, I hope you are all well. Having lived in the UAE for 7 years; I have never had an issue finding work. I do not even recall having a proper CV in these years as I found work through 'word of mouth'/references. However, this year has been such a disappointment. Been unemployed since March and yes, I have contacted agencies, dropped my CV to sources directly, attended workshops/summits etc and it has always been a 'not-shortlisted' situation for me. I have completed 2 visa runs and at my wits end. I am mixed; South African Indian (raised in SA) and hold an Indian passport. Phone interviews go fantastic however, when recruiters later find out that I hold an 'Indian' passport, my CV is a drop right away. My last experience was heading the HR/Admin function for a financial firm here in Dubai that ended in March due to the headquarters in the UK filing for bankruptcy. I have been on the look out for suitable HR roles ever since. Can someone please advise if you are aware of any opportunities please? I would be extremely grateful for any leads. [i'>Note - I have looked into a similar thread and checked the links provided, however no response.[/i'> Thank you very much. Diana No real advice here, i recently has to look for a new job and it took me 3 months of hard searching.. i hold a British passport so i think it is tough for everyone.. I am now working as a receptionist and receive at least 6 CVS a day in person, not to mention the ones that go direct to HR etc. Dubai is not the place it once was unfortunately. Im sure you will find something eventually.. Best of luck

I am also looking - I have an appointment to see a development called Ellington. (the developers that broke off from the Emaar group to form their own company). I would like to buy as well - off plan and so any advice is gratefully received. Hi there! I am also interested in Ellington they seem to be very good quality, I was doing a lot of googling of the different developers and found a very helpful website that had all developments on there. It is an independent website and they have connections with all the developers in UAE so have been advising me which projects to look at, prices and reputation of developers etc. Deffo good for a first timer like myself as i am totally clueless! The person i am in contact with is called Charlie . this is the website - http://off-planproperties.ae/ Will keep you updated on how it goes, i have some meeting with developers this week.. Maybe i will see you at Ellington as i am also going to check them out aswell :) Best of luck x

Hi are you referring to local houses? If so please share any information should you find out anything as we are also exploring options. As far as I know we can only buy Freehold properties. Out of experience there are almost double the price though and local homes are so much nicer! If you are interested in Freehold, RAKP has georgeous properties but they are located in Ras Al Khaimah. I agree, i would love something in Jumeirah but i know for a fact expats cant buy there, we are now looking mainly in Downtown Dubai + 10/15km radius I found a useful website whilst i was searching on google and it has been super helpful so far.. They are independent and have connections with all the developers in UAE so have been advising me which projects to look at, price and reputation of developers etc. Deffo good for a first timer like myself as i am totally clueless! The person i am in contact with is called Charlie this is the website - http://off-planproperties.ae/ I only asked them about Dubai properties but i am sure they will do RAK aswell. Will keep you updated on how it goes, i have some meeting with developers this week :) Best of luck x
