Hi, I used to be a hairdresser and am very particular with my cut and color. I cannot recommend Ted Morgan enough. All the hairdressers are Toni and Guy trained and have regular ongoing training. Everyone I've sent there have been more than happy. I go to the one in Motor City but I imagine they are all good. Like the previous person said, you do get what you paid for.

I agree with Yorky - try Arabian Ranches Souk on Facebook. You need to ask Admin to join.. Things seem to go very quickly on there. People also advertise if they are having an open house (if you want to do that do that for selling your items). Good Luck

I'm new too and was a bit sick of the usual run of the mill supermarkets that were overpriced and 'nice' (and within walking distance). So I set out to Al Barsha Mall to the Co-op. I was pleasantly surprised - the quality of fruit and veg and other grocery items was good and well priced. I managed to get all I needed (and more) for a fraction of what I had paid at the 'other' stores. The fish was really fresh too. The only thing I did not buy was meat but then I have not been impressed with most of the meat so far. Must try Prime Gourmet.. It will be easier when I am driving as I'm using public transport and taxis. - I'll have a really good look around then. Thanks Tallybalt for the rundown - great list...

That is beautiful… in an ideal world we would all speak different languages and help to break down the barriers. Thanks for sharing (made me cry too):)

Thanks for your replies - yes I felt like cheering (to have them on) but I was in a public place when I received the calls and really did not feel like looking like a t***. I have reported to Etisalat and await a reply.

I am using a local company on the Sunshine Coast who contract to Chess. Both companies have been professional and the quote was comparable with others. Chess seem to have a very good reputation and I'm sure my local agent would not go with anyone dodgy.. We are only bringing personal items as we can purchase what we need when we arrive. Our furniture is large and was made to fit certain rooms but my DH and I both realise that a furnished rental was not an option (not to our taste). I had the packers here yesterday and was informed it would take between 6 - 8 weeks to arrive. All the best with the move.

I am in a similar situation and about to ship some personal effects over. I have been advised not to ship herbs as it could delay customs. I was informed that if I really wanted something specific, pop it in your suitcase and declare it on arrival. Hope that helps.

Hi, I had both knees replaced - done 14 months apart. The recovery period does depend on the level of fitness going into surgery. I recovered quicker with my second as I knew what to expect and what exercises I needed to do (both in preparation and after). I initially had home physio twice weekly, then fortnightly for the six weeks. It is important to keep on top of the pain initially so you can exercise, then reduce the level of painkillers accordingly. I found the best exercise for me was hydrotherapy and swimming. I was driving and back to work at the six week period and at six months functioning really well. All the best to your mum for a speedy recovery.

Thank you everyone - I now have a better idea of what is being said. I love all the possibilities for the meaning of DH - have used a couple of those myself over time! It won't be long until I join my DH in Dubai as I finished work today. I am looking forward to connecting with people who I can have a laugh with.

Hi, I'm relatively new to this and trying to get my head around some of the acronyms and language used. I thought to myself 'there must be a lot of Tia's living in Dubai as that is how they signed off'. Now I realise that it is an acronym probably meaning thanking you in advance (or something like that). Can someone please explain some of the acronyms used for us newbies out there. Tx

Hi Dubai Ali, I am also moving out in a couple of months, am also in my 50s and will have DH travelling a fair bit for work. I too have found the information on the forum very helpful (thank you everyone) as to what to bring/leave behind. I am planning on only bringing about 20 boxes, so have to be discerning when packing up (definitely will bring the 1200 count egyptian cotton sheets). We will have serviced apartment for a few months then look for rental, probably in Marina or JB area. I'll be looking for assistance with furniture buying later in the year. I am looking forward to my new adventure/ home and would love to meet up when I arrive - planning mid January for a look/see and mid February for the move. ps. this is my first post.
