Real Life Stories in Dubai That Will Restore Your Faith in Humanity

When living in a large, fast-paced city like Dubai, you'd be forgiven for thinking that everyone here follows the metropolis mindset; walk and no talk.

Plus, with so many different languages and cultures here, it's no surprise that many of us can sometimes be guilty of forgetting simple niceties that we either don't do, or fail to see around us. And instead assume everyone's selfish and rude.

But that doesn't mean you should lose faith entirely; sure we all have bad days, but that doesn't mean all people are bad. And we hope these real life stories from people and EWer's living in Dubai will help to lift your spirits as they did us!

Kids and their sweets

"I was at Geant one day, when some kids came in to buy snacks and things. The only had around AED 5 between them, but their bill came to AED 15. The lady in front of me was kind enough to tell the cashier to just leave it, and add it to her bill.

She didn't have to do that, but witnessing it brightened my day up completely."

A broken card machine, and a whole lot of trust

"It was an evening, and I had been heading out to meet my girlfriend's. Before jumping into the taxi that had pulled up, I double checked to see if his card machine was working as I wasn't carrying cash... He said yes, so off we went. By the time we had arrived at my destination, the machine had lost it's connection - and with no ATM in sight, I found myself in a bit of a pickle as I had no way to pay this taxi driver.

Thankfully, he was a very understanding man who was equally frustrated as I was at the major technology fail, and so I introduced myself. Then, I asked him if he would be okay with picking me back up later so I could give him the money I owed and also the return fare home. Surprisingly he said yes. And so we exchanged numbers, and off we went in our separate directions.

Now here's where my faith was restored... The fact a man, a complete stranger and one of thousands of Dubai taxi drivers working day and night in the city, was able to trust me, a complete stranger (who was daft enough not to go to the ATM earlier in the day), was really uplifting.

While we weren't able to meet again later that night as he was at the other end of town, we did meet the next day and I gave him both the money owed and a little extra to show my appreciation at his act of kindness. Perhaps I was lucky he was a kind and trusting man, as there was the chance any other person may have made the situation a whole lot more difficult."

Rescuing a tiny, innocent kitten

"I once met a lady who told me of how she'd once spent over an hour trying to catch a tiny kitten that had been abandoned, and was in so much distress.

She could have contacted a veterinary clinic, or the relevant authority to come and catch her, but instead she managed to rescue the kitten and then spent time giving it the TLC it deserved before helping to find it a suitable, loving furever home."

The case of a parked car, and a scratched bumper

"After work one evening, I approached my car only to find a huge scratch on my front bumper where the paint had peeled off, with a business card tucked under my windscreen wipers.

The card read, "I'm so sorry I hit your car, please call me", and so I did and the culprit was so apologetic and so friendly that we were able to find a solution to the small accident that didn't involve the police or hefty insurance costs.

It turned out they had struggled to exit their own parking space next to me due to another car that wasn't parked correctly.

The fact this person was so honest, when anyone else could have just driven away, really lifted my mood - so much so, that I wasn't really angry that my car had been damaged. These things happen, after all."
