5 Tips on Preparing for the du Tough Mudder's Obstacle Course

The 2nd edition of the du Tough Mudder will return to the UAE in just under two weeks. And for those of you who are not sure about what to expect, here's five tips to help you prepare and train for the upcoming du Tough Mudder event.

1. Keep moving at all times

It's easy to stop, pause and wait for your friends who are behind you, but if you do need to hang on for them - keep moving. Even if it's just swinging your arms and legs around, keep moving. Especially if you've just passed one of the mud or water obstacles.

2. Stay positive, and keep an open mind

There's no denying you might face an obstacle that you think you simply can't do. But instead of skipping it - just DO IT!

Once you've completed it or at least tried, you'll begin to realise that the obstacles aren't that bad. Keep a smile on your face and remain positive throughout, and when you need it, you'll no doubt find a helping hand there to get you through.

3. Wear old, comfortable clothes - and bring some to change into

This is a Tough Mudder course... If you're not filthy by the end of it, you haven't done it. You will get cold and tired and dirty, so make sure you wear clothes that you don't mind getting dirty and that you're comfortable in. But remember to also pack something clean and dry to wear once you've completed the course.

4. Run, walk, or crawl - but finish

It doesn't matter how fast you get through the obstacle course, but it's important you don't stop. Keep moving forward. When you're tired, conserve energy by walking or crawling. And remember it's not a competition, there are no medals at the end and you're not battling a clock - just enjoy it, take your time and make sure you have the most fun possible.

5. Seek help if needed, and return the favour

If you happen to complete an obstacle easily, well done! But remember to turn around and help the person behind you. Because later down the course, you never know when you'll need to seek the help of someone strong to give you a hand.
