Our Experience Getting an E-Gate Card in Dubai

We have always thought about getting an e-gate card but have just put it off as we thought it would be the usual mass of photos lots of paperwork etc, but we couldn’t have been more wrong…

We arrived at Dubai airport, terminal one, departures, checked the screens for our departure time, then started to find out where we needed to go, easy there is a great big sign hanging from the ceiling pointing you up the escalator marked e-gate office.

Got to the top of the escalator on the floor there is a huge sticker pointing you to the e-gate office, once in the office simple the guy behind the counter was very friendly he filled the form out on the screen, then scanned the left and right hand thumb or whichever finger you wish, checked the print on the screen to ensure it was clear, then asked us for a passport photo, which he then took a photo of that image placed it on the screen (and returned us the passport photo), then asked for our mobile numbers we signed the form with all the information on, paid 200AED each and then gave us our e-gate cards size of a credit card, the whole procedure from start to finish lasted all of 10 minutes painless.

We then progressed to departures dropped off our suitcases and instead of queuing in passport control went straight through the e-gate channel, simple inserted our new card, scanned our boarding pass went through the little glass gates scanned our thumb print then straight through, easy, can’t believe we never did this sooner and it lasts for 2 years. Just one tip remember which finger or thumb was scanned!
