Get Ready Dubai For Auction Action!

It’ll be fun, you can make some money or buy some great bargains and finds!

We are addicted to reality TV and love a good auction/ antique/ restoration type program! They are always on repeat on the channels we get over here so they are easy to catch on air. Here’s a list of our favourites and why…

Storage Wars

storage wars

This US program is fascinating as unpaid for storage units are sold off to the highest bidder. It’s impossible to tell what the auctioneer is saying and there are some funny, eccentric regulars on here. They always seem to find an amazing item in each storage locker and the aim of the show is for them to be able to sell the contents of the locker for more than they paid for it. Good fun TV show and you’ll be laughing at the auctioneer saying “biddly biddly biddly”!

Cash In The Attic

There’s nothing better on a Friday afternoon to watch the experts rooting around in some old dear’s attic to see what treasure is lurking in the rafters. The experts make their picks and the goods are then sent off to auction… the winner is whoever makes the most money and the person whose items are being sold usually have a need for the money raised. Good, solid while away the hours TV!

Antiques Roadshow

This is where it all started! The original and possibly best although there’s no auction part to the show- it’s all about getting a value on the item the show’s producers have chosen to be featured. People queue for hours with their treasures yearning to know how much they are worth. A good family game is to all have a guess at the value and see who’s the closest. There are always some surprises in store too!

Pawn Stars

Ok, again, not an auction although there’s lots of price negotiation and appraising of items. The pawn shop is based in Las Vegas so they get some amazing items being brought in to be sold or pawned. You get to learn about history too as they call in their experts if they are unsure about the value of an item. The family that own the pawnshop are hilarious too!

Flog It!

This is a bit more of a serious show with Paul Martin and a host of regular experts offering tips and advice on antiques and collectibles. Members of the public to bring their antiques to be viewed and valued, with an option to sell at auction. It’s great to see finds like a £3 milk jug bought at a car boot sale being sold for £1,500! The experts are really knowledgeable too- so lots to be learnt!

Bargain Hunt

In this show it’s all about the teams. The Red team takes on the Blue team in a bargain hunt. Both teams have £300 and one hour at a fair to buy antiques which they have to sell at auction, hopefully making money into the bargain. That's Bargain Hunt, presented by Tim Wonnacott with the help of two trusty antiques experts. Once the teams have shopped for their antiques, the experts go shopping with any leftover money. Before the sale, Tim and the auctioneer discuss the chances of each item making or losing money for the teams. The teams get to keep the difference between what they spend on an item and the hammer price at the auction house, so it's all to play for as the auction begins.
