Mediclinic City Hospital: Breastfeeding and Work
World Breastfeeding Week is celebrated between 1 and 7 August . As a hospital which sees more than 3,500 births each year, Mediclinic City Hospital promotes breastfeeding as the preferred nutritional choice for newborn babies and its team of qualified lactation consultant are on hand at all times to ensure that new mothers are supported in their efforts to breastfeed.

But what about women who actually work at Mediclinic City Hospital?  With a large female workforce and a DHCC law in which women are entitled to 45 days’ maternity leave, at any one time the hospital has a significant number of breastfeeding mothers returning to work. Mediclinic City Hospital aims to provide as supportive an environment for its breastfeeding staff as it does its patients. Employees have full freedom to pump or breastfeed at work as and when needed, in a clean environment safe from potentially hazardous waste and chemicals, and there are refrigerated areas for the storage of breast milk. There are also several rooms dedicated to breastfeeding mothers where women, both staff and patients, may feed in comfort and privacy if they wish.
Members of staff are also welcome to join our antenatal, postnatal and mother’s support group meetings and can enjoy job security during and after their pregnancy.

Mediclinic City Hospital believes that a balance between the work and family life of its staff improves the health and wellbeing of its workforce and leads to better all-round productivity. We are proud to support the rights of breastfeeding mothers at work and urge other businesses to do the same.
