Garhoud

Despite being considered on the "wrong" side of new Dubai, those that live in Garhoud are thankful of it. One of the nicer places in old Dubai to live and it is surrounded by a large number of older Dubai landmarks. The Irish Village will become your local haunt- not a bad thing! There are older villas and a mix of old and new apartments available in this area. Really handy access for the airport too!

This is a popular residential area as the prices are not too steep and it has nice villa complexes with shared swimming pools. The only downside is that it is very close to the airport and can be a bit noisy. Garhoud has easy access to Sheikh Zayed rd. and is 10 minutes away from downtown. There is a large expatriate community living here. There are many licensed bar and restaurants as well as fitness club in the area, including the largest Irish pub in Dubai. There are many good international schools in Garhoud thus making it a popular area with expats. 3, 4 and 5 bedroom villas are in the region of AED 160,000 – 250,000.

Perfect for: families, couples & singletons

I Live There...

Name: Mike
How long in Dubai? 8 years
How long in your area? 2 years
Family circumstance: Single
A bit about me: Young professional and a first time expat in Dubai

Accommodation Options:
Garhoud is very accessible and there are a lot of villas popular by expatriates in Dubai. There are a few flats if you would like to rent one to two bedrooms. It might be a bit expensive compare to other areas as Garhoud is right across the Dubai International Airport.

Facilities:
There is tight security in the buildings so it feels very safe. The villas are located next to Emirates Headquarters and should be tidy as well. The area is surrounded by commercial centres and hotels so you can avail membership and use their facilities. There are quite good restaurants in the area like Irish Village, Le Meridien Dubai and more.

Why I like living here:
Garhoud is a great place to live in. You’ve got the International Airport a few blocks away as well as great hotels like Le Meridien Dubai and Grand Millenium Hotel. Garhoud is also popular among Emirates Airlines staffs as the headquarters is located opposite the terminal. There are a lot of things to do especially during the month of February and March where Tennis Championships are held at Dubai Tennis Stadium. There are also several schools and the area is very accessible if you want to travel to Sheikh Zayed Road or old Dubai. Garhoud is served by Dubai Metro as well so no need to worry if you are having a journey.
