Wherever you get your certificates attested (notary at solicitors etc) please please please make sure that the notary's signature is already recorded at the FCO Milton Keynes. If not, you may have a long wait (if you go in person) and as happened to a young couple sitting next to me....their registrar was on holiday and nobody could confirm his signature.

So it's worth a telephone call to check before you present docs to FCO. Also, remember that a UK Marriage Cert is already a certified copy, so you only need to get that attested at FCO and UAE embassy.

The same day service at UAE embassy in London is pretty efficient - get there 9.30am for opening and you can then pop off for a free morning and return to pick it up after 2pm.

My company is applying for DH and my employment/residency visas, and we've emailed them scanned copies of certs they've asked for (unattested) and was very surprised when they did not mention the requirement for Attested certs. Subsequent communication on telephone was difficult and frustrating, they didn't seem to "get it", we couldn't get a straight answer from them and they didn't seem to think it's an issue.

To be on the safe side, I'm assuming I need to get degree certs, birth certs and marriage cert attested prior to arriving in Dubai. What is the process to do this? What needs to be done and who does it? Any guidance would be much appreciated.

TIA

Hi all, my DD recently had her Degree certificate attested by the British Council and was about to carry out the next steps of sending it back to the FCO and UAE Embassy in the UK for legalisation and attestation. However her Company PRO told her there was no need to do so as it was a 'UK' degree certificate and would be accepted by the Ministry with the BC attestation only. It is in process at the moment and the PRO is adamant there will be no problem. If this turns out OK it has saved DD a lot of money and hassle.

Loupops......

I rec'd excellent service from jestomexpress.com. Speak to a guy call Tony (or email him), he is a great help, very informative, very efficient service.

When he sends the certificates back to you (all stamped) you will be given a DHL tracking number, to track your item coming back to you. It was posted from there on Friday and I rec'd it on Sunday

More importantly they take all the hard work/running around away from you.

They were recommended on a similar thread on here.

As far as I know, its 'in person'.

Are you in Dubai?

Since, I'm in Dubai I got a company to do it for me (recommended by an EW poster ) , certificates supposed to arrive back to me via DHL any day now. I have to say it has saved me all the hassle and money of travelling there from my hometown which is nowhere near London or Milton Keynes.

Great thanks. Excellent. I thought it was £30 anyway, so will do the express service, as wouldn't fancy coming back the next day!

Cheers ladies!

You could pay extra for same day express service (£30 instead of £25(?)) as long as you bring the certs in before 12 noon.

I would get there early, you will need to return the next day to collect, I think the timing for this is 9am till 10am.

Hi all
Not the UK, but I need to get my degree cert from New Zealand attested, but am already in Dubai. I rang Index and Attestation.in but they only do UK, US, Australian and Indian degrees. Anyone know any other agencies that will handle the whole thing, or will I end up doing the four stage process NZ/Canberra from afar? Thanks in great hope.......

Yes EmmMcD, they normally are required (as far as I know) for residency visa.

I don't know anyone who has never required it, unless someone on here can say differently.

Hey there, just tuned into this thread as we are due to move to Dubai next week from Bahrain. My husband has already got residency in Dubai and has the relevant visas myself and daughter need to come in on which will then be changed to residency visas too. However, I'm a bit worried now that, although we haven't been asked for any attested certs by his company, they are actually required to process our residency. Is this the case? What do you need the attested certs for!?! Thanks, Panicky!

I can also confirm that the British Embassy in Dubai or Abu Dhabi no longer do it - they changed the rules the day I went down there so you can imagine how frustrated I was. The woman behind the counter told me to go in and out on a visit visa - not sure they should be telling people to do that. Anyway i ended up using a company in the UK called Jestom Express www.jestomexpress who were excellent and took a lot of the heart ache and stress out of it all. Some people have said they are expensive but to me they were well worth it.

Just to let you know once its been legalised you need to take it to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs near the Bur Juman center for a couple of more stamps and costs of DHs150. This is pain free I was in and out in 5 mins and had a lovely chat with the chap at the counter. More that I can be said about the Embassy who in my opinion seem to be doing less and less - from 1st August we now have to send our passport renewals abroad!! I could go on!

Thanks for the recommendation madamdragon I have contacted Jestom Express and they say it should be sorted within 7 working days. I just have to scan the certificate across to them.
For the fee they are charging it's worth it, it would cost much more for me to drive down to milton keynes (petrol), then to London, then back to my home up north. Hassle free too, my time is precious in the UK so I like to spend as much of my time with family and friends, as possible.

If it's a UK marriage or birth cert you need to take it to the UK FCO (now Milton Keynes for walk ins), and then on to the UAE Embassy in London. If it's a qualification you need to first get it notarised by a notary (you'll find one at a UK solicitors), or if you are already in Dubai you can get this done by the British Council at the British Embassy or Academic City (within Dubai English Speaking College), and then on to the FCO in Milton Keynes, and the UAE Embassy in London. Complicated and expensive! If you have time it's probably better to manage it by post, or if your company will pay to get a company to manage it for you.

Oh please don't go all the way down to British Embassy! They stopped attesting marriage certs in February - believe me I heard it first hand after going through a rigmarole that lasted 4 months including having to e mail a complaint to their UK headoffice etc and getting an email back from the consulate! You have to do it through the UK now!! I have given up for the time being but there are companies out there that will do it all for you - when I eventually muster up enough energy that's the way I'll go

We just did similar for our impending move from Dubai to Qatar - 3 certificates attested (apostilled) by the FCO and then sent on to the Qatar embassy in London for further processing.

We had hoped to do this ourselves when we went back to the UK but decided instead to use a service so we could kick back and enjoy the holiday instead of running around. Our total cost was 400 pounds (Rob Stroud from Global Visas) but it was so easy. We mailed the certificates to him on the 1st day of our hols and he had them couriered back to us duly completed within a week. We paid upon receipt of the docs.

I don't know how to do the marriage/birth certs but I know how to do the quals ones! I don't know what your quals are but my employer only recquired one of the certificates to be attested so I only got a degree one done. If you have a degree and a PGCE I would suggest you get those done - if you have a masters/Phd get that done too. The certificates need to go to the local chamber of commerce first to the notary. Once that's done they go to the UAE Embassy in London to be attested. It is expensive so only get essential ones doen - I only had one degree cert done and all in all it cost 140 pounds.
