Hi I just thought I would bump up this thread to mention the cost of delivering at the Iranian Hospital. I enquired on behalf of a friend who is looking for a low cost option too. Apparently it's AED4100 for a normal delivery and AED7100 for a cs. That does not include antenatal care, which is priced per appt. A basic consultation costs AED100.

I don't have any personal experience of this hospital, but I've heard the care is quite good.

Not sure what you mean here xenyen, but my newborn had to be admitted to SBCU (Special Baby Care Unit) because she had a blood infection and needed IV antibiotics for five days. Al Wasl is 100% pro 'rooming-in' and never separates a mother and baby unless medically necessary. They don't even have a nursery on the wards...all babies stay with Mumma. At birth she was put straight on my chest and we weren't disturbed for at least a couple of hours. She was about 18 hours old when a test showed the infection and she was admitted to SBCU.

My point in mentioning SBCU is that the costs of SBCU or NICU are very, very low at AW (compared to private hospitals). Five days in SBCU/NICU cost us under 400dhs. We paid for a few blood tests only. Her med's and 'accom' were free because she was born there.
ETA - this was in November and I don't know how the recent price restructure has affected NICU charges.

Be very careful of where you go without insurance. My DD was born prematurley by emergency C-section and we ended up with a bill of Dh 63,000, most of that being special care stuff and then the ambulance to transport her to another hospital after 3 days when she was stable. My doctors bill for the section was Dh 6,000 (she reduced it for me). That was 13 yrs ago, imagine what it would be today.

63K!!! GULP!!
Now i'm thinking IF i should still try for a baby here (Dh will still here for another 18 mnths) IF i no longer have company insurance during the next laying-off in my dept.

Research research....

hi, i had the same issue last year, didnt have insurance at the time and needed a good hospital that wouldnt cost and arm and leg. Found Zuleikha hospital in dubai (Al Qusais) they were good, normal delivery was about 5000aed and c-section about 11000aed. Ended up changing hospitals at my 36th week of pregnancy as only then was told that DH wouldnt be allowed with me during birth with either c-section/normal delivery. Apparently not allowed here, load of rubbish if you ask me. Was told that some DH's cannot handle to see their wifes in pain or naked with others in sight and some husbands have gone as far as to attack doctors as their wives were in pain and agony. Serioulsy i just laughed out loud when I heard that and assured them my DH fortunately is not as backward or ignorant to think the doctor was causing my pain as apposed to umh lets say LABOUR. Anyhow, changed to Royal Hospital in Sharjah, great hospital and doctors. Had a really good experience all round, was about 10 000aed for c-section. Not sure where u live but if close to sharjah i would definately recomment Royal Hospital.

Hello!

Thanks for all the replies. I'll check out some of these places. Hopefully the reduced price doesn't mean bad service!

Cryptic, insurance is not valid for a pregnancy already in progress, I checked with some insurance companies

Thanks, Green-ish. I intend to insist on hanging on to baby immediately after birth, rather than letting them get in the way.

Thanks, AnonDubai and ezzranz. I'll check these out. Hubby wants to cut all the corners he can.

xenyen...I also would have loved a homesbirth, but sadly they are illegal here.

You might find Al Wasl marginally cheaper but they have recently increased their prices significantly. I used to recommend AW wholeheartedly as an affordable option, but to be honest, I don't think they are offering a good enough service to justify charging similar prices to the private hospitals. I delivered at AW in Nov and my entire out of pocket cost for antenatal, delivery and SBCU for my baby was under 6000dhs. I think the same package now would be about 15K plus SBCU.

Have you looked into the insurance that your doctors office offers? May be cheaper than trying to pay the hospital out of pocket yourself.

However, I delivered at Belhoul Specialty. C-Section had I paid for it out of pocket was around 18,000 dirhams. (My insurance covered it). My doctors office was offering insurance for around 7,000 dirhams for their delivery package.

Not sure what normal delivery cost would have been as it was never an option for me due to placenta previa.

Hello!

I'd be very grateful if anyone who's had a delivery recently in Dubai could let me know how much it cost?

My hospital, Medcare, is quoting 10,000 Dhs for a normal delivery, and 25,000 dhs for C section.

What did you pay, and where? I don't want to pay so much; I'd have preferred a natural birth at home, but everyone wants me 'safe' with the germs and prescription-happy doctors.

Thanks in advance for your replies!
