Does anyone know if this is indeed the case? I can't find anything on the POLO website either.

Thank you!

hi Caduku. The maid's contract need to be attested & verified by the POLO in order for her to be registered officially as an Overseas Filipino Worker, and thus get her OEC (Overseas Employment Certificate) here or in the Phil Labour Office whenever she intends to go or is on vacation. It will put her on the system. Without this, she will not be able to come back from her vacation as the OEC is a necessity. The Dubai visa stamp on the passport will not allow her to travel back.

You can make your maid go for this verification now or before she goes on vacation. No rush.

Just renewed our maid's contract and have not had to go to the embassy on either occasion to have it stamped. The guidelines re: salary from the Philippines govt. are just that - guidelines. They are not legal obligations that require some form of official stamp.

Call the embassy to check out - they are quite helpful (as and when they decide to pick up the phone!)

We recently sponsored our fillipino maid and she hasn't mentioned this to us. The Labour Contract which was given to us was signed by DH and Maid. Both have a copy each which was stamped by Labour Office. So may be that's what she wants her copy of the contract.
