Double Stroller Question

I need to buy a double stroller for a newborn and an 18 mos. toddler. I have been looking on Dubizzle as I don't want to spend too much money and I like to recycle. I don't drive and use a lot of taxis, metro, etc. so it's important that it's not too bulky or heavy, easy to fold down with one hand. I would like one that obviously can take a car seat, can recline separately, has sun shades and storage underneath. I don't know where to start? Side by side or in-line? Any suggestions??

I noticed there is an iCandy Peach with all the accessories on Dubizzle if anyone's looking. Also a couple of P&T's.

Hi twokids, no I dealt with bumblebee, didn't even think of going to p&t directly. Will def do that next time if anything goes wrong, thanks for letting me know. I'd recommend going to the P & T site and registering your pram:)

I know I'm not in UAE yet but been there on holidays and seen the size of curbs etc. I have the GRACO stadium (tandum) and use the car seat from my GRACO mosaic (which can be bought seperately if required). Yes it's a bit bulky and when you'r used to a single pram it feels heavy the first few times you take it out but it's SOOOOO reliable! It can carry tons of stuff and leg room isn't too bad. Turning circle is as expected, good reaction but the length obviously means it needs a bit of space. Purchased from mothercare so assume you can also get in UAE. I am going to bring my mosaic over with me (hence not selling it) and my son who turns 3yrs next month is just going to have to walk more! =P We have buggy boards over here I could attach for him but I don't think they'll be much use over there! A lot more high curbs from what I remember.

I tried to find the pp aria twin in Dubai but nobody stocks it anymore, toys r us used to. M&p don't stock that version either. I looked on amazon.com and they would ship to Dubai and the cost was about 1,500, so not bad. We ended up going with p&t as bumblebee had a special when I was in there, still trying to figure out how it works!! One of the parts broke after using it about 3 times but they got the part and replaced it yesterday ( did take about 3 months though!) I have a few friends who have the city select and love it, just wish you got it here as it does everything you would want from a double pram. Alimart - did you deal directly with P&T aftersales/warranty department? 3 months seems like a long time for a part. We have had new wheels and a new frame all shipped to Dubai from NZ, within a week of lodging our online warranty claim.:)

Saying that, the lighter Peach looked promising, but too late, I'd got my P&T and loved it. Peach.... dammit, I should have tried that one out! Just kidding had it a couple weeks back. I still have bugaboo donkey envy but DH thinks 9k is excessive unless I decide it's an absolute must. He got me a maid instead!

Hi I looked at the P&T when pg with dd2 and nearly bought one, but opted for a Maclaren Twin Techno instead. With hindsight I am so glad I did as I used it non-stop for over a year. Like you I used the metro a lot and walked outdoors, up and down curbs etc. It's v lightweight and has *tons* of storage spade in the back. As most doors dxb are wide that was never an issue for me. Both sides also recline fully. The only downside of the TT is that is doesn't take a car seat. This is why when I took a taxi I would normally take my Quinny with MaxiCosi car seat for dd2 and a separate booster seat for dd1. I had no idea there was a double pushchair which combined the best of both worlds. Greenish's PP Aria twin sounds fab! Btw there are normally plenty of double pushchairs in good condition for sale on Dubizzle. Quite a lot of them don't get used for long as if there is a big age gap between kids often the older child refuses to sit in it.

Sorry HAK...I still detest my P&T. I guess my only point of comparison is the monster that was the iCandy Pear - a container-ship in a storm would have been easier to handle! .... Yikes. I had no idea what an iCandy was so did me a quick google. Lordy...some funny, very negative reviews around on that little number! :D Yeah, I may have left one of those! lol! Used to have the Apple, which was lovely - really nice - so I was really hopeful for the Pear, but it was horrendous. I'm no waif, but I seriously couldn't turn it - not round the corner of a pavement and certainly not at the end of an aisle of a shop. Getting it up even the smallest of steps was nearly impossible - I had to put all my weight on the handlebar to lever it up. I only kept it for a month or two - if it was unmanageable with a 19 month old and a 4kg newborn, then I couldn't even imagine it now, with 32kg of assorted child installed in it... plus it was about 20kg of contraption on its own. It needed a motor and power steering. I sometimes wondered if there wasn't actually a problem with my particular one, but then again, I didn't pay nigh-on £600 for something that was touch-and-go! Saying that, the lighter Peach looked promising, but too late, I'd got my P&T and loved it.

Here's a link to a review...first one that popped up on a search - http://www.productreview.com.au/p/peg-perego-aria-twin.html I use it for my two girls who are 2.5 yrs apart and the bigger one easily fits in the narrower side. Maybe find out who stocks them in Dubai and go have a look at a new one just to get an idea then search for second hand? In a shop the staff *should* be able to show you how easy it is to collapse and put up. It's not heavy but it is a bit bulky when folded so carrying it, shopping and a baby would be an impressive feat...but that will be true of any stroller! :D Hope you find one! :)

Thanks for the replies! Green-ish I am curious about the peg perego, if I have a car seat attached to the wider side, can I still fit my 18mo. old in the narrower side? This sounds like what I am looking for. I really need something light weight as I don't have a ramp entrance at my apartment so I have to carry it up and down stairs with groceries, etc. There is a peg perego double on dubizzle but I don't know if it's the same one. I guess I'll call and find out.

It all depends what you do with it as well. I've got a couple of hooks for the handlebars which really helps... plus the full UV cover. My daughter goes in the back, although she shouldn't because she's now over 15kg (but saying that, they both are!) - she's never complained of the view because it's either lump it or walk. The only design fault for me is the recline on the bottom seat, where the bar gets in the way if they're over about 80cm, but hey... and it does the travel system too. Anyhow, I don't have shares in P&T - just saying it's a decent option for someone who walks a lot.

Sorry HAK...I still detest my P&T. It's heavy, bulky, a pain to get in and out of the car, very long, no space for anything in the basket in the double configuration, whichever one of my children has been relegated to the back seat hates it...they are all tall and very cramped back there etc etc. (I've moaned enough about it on here!) I bought a second-hand Peg Perego Aria Twin on dubizzle and it's fantastic. It's a 60/40 split (one seat wider than the other) that easily fits through a standard doorway; there is an attachment available that allows a car seat to clip onto the wider side; it's lightweight and easily manoeuvred even with two rather heavy 'little' ones in it; both seats fully recline independently and have independent shades that actually shade the child; both seats have a five point harness; one-handed assemble and fold; large basket underneath. Need I say more. If you can't find a second-hand one, it's absolutely worth a new purchase. (mine is for sale now, but it's in Australia ;) ) edited by Green-ish on 11/09/2011

hehe - you can either have lightweight or you can have everything that you've stated below, but not both, I'm afraid. My 2 are 21 months apart and it sounds as if we do the same kind of things - lots of walking, metro, busses, loading the buggy full of shopping, travel system etc. I have a P&T and I have never once gone "oo, I wish it was lighter/ less bulky" (actually, once - when I had to get on a bus and could only access the front door, which then had a really, really narrow sharp turn, so at the next stop I had to get out and get in through the middle door again), simply because I know I can load it up like a donkey and it's still happy. This is compounded when I see mums battling to get side-by-sides up curbs or through heavy doors, or mums whose lightweight side-by-sides tip backwards with the weight of shopping. In any case, in-line is definitely the way to go, although you also have to think of the length.
