Which is the best tomato based pasta sauce in a jar? Preferably a blended sauce, without big tomato pieces. Any favorites?

My favourite one is Lloyd Grosman's Puttenesca sauce though his other sauces are great too.

Got some nice ones from Al Dente, not too chunky. The restaurant is in Tecom at the Byblos hotel. The chef makes them himself I think and he's very Italian!

We love all the Sacla sauces. A pasta sauce made in Italy is more likely to be good, I think:)

Paul Newmans. ..don't think you can get here! What a shame as all profits go to charity I bought Newman's Pepper, Spicy, Tomato sauce in Spinney's on the Marina a few days ago. Haven't tried it yet.

I too like Jamie Oliver stuff. Most of the jar sauces don't have sugar or high fructose corn syrup. Scarry stuff looking at the label on some of those jars. If Jamie's is too chunky then use a food processor to smooth it a bit. They taste fresh and not over processed.

there is a jamie Oliver one ( got it from Choithrams ) but its chunky so not sure if you will like that but its really nice.. he does one that called a spicy one and it has olives, lots of garlic and its fantastic ! I do like to make my own and then freeze it and use it when I need it ... quicker then opening a jar :)

I, too, make mine from scratch but, if push comes to shove, I do like the Ragu Chunky made with Sundried Tomatoes and Sweet Basil. It's not that chunky really. Just that one - others are horrible.

isn't "best pasta sauce in a jar" an oxymoron ?? Oh my, I was about to say same thing...nothing beats making your own....and it takes so little time... I like making my own too but I also like to be lazy sometimes :-) My favourite is the Lloyd Grossman one with chillies. nothing wrong with lazy or busy day..:)

If you REALLY REALLY can't be bothered to make your own then my hubby uses Sacla tomato & chilli which is "fine". I always find you need the sprinkling of a fresh herb though (basil is my favourite with this) to finish a pasta dish, even when you cheat. ;) We use the Sacla Pomodoro & Marscapone one when desperate. DD loves it, prefers it to mine.

Yes it is better to make your own but that is not what the OP was asking. If she had asked for the "Best Pasta Sauce Recipes" then fair enough.....but she didn't

Dolmio garlic & onion, or else Prego. Do not know anything about wine.
